Short story to relax: My ex broke up, rebounded 2 months after us. Told me about it 2 months later and 1 week after she told me how happy she is, she left him. So relax, it’s not always as it seems or sounds. Only because they tell YOU they are happy doesn’t necessarily mean they truly are happy. Sometimes they just try to convince themselves until they realize they actually just use the other person to cope with their pain and get over you. Never works well trust me.

It doesn't have to be days, it could be many weeks or months if it was a long term relationship. There is no way a healthy person could process the grief of a relationship and fully invest romantically in someone else in weeks or a few months. I'm suggesting the grief will hit them whilst within the new relationship. Not fair on your ex, not fair on the new person and certainly not fair on the dumpee.
