Thanks for this video! I had been thinking that my hair was low porosity for so long because when I do the water in the cup test my hair always floated on top. The Green beauty channel mentioned you as example of high porosity hair youtuber and I began to follow right away. I did see the other video for low porosity hair about 3 weeks ago and was wondering if anyone would do the same for high porosity hair. So thx again your channel is very helpful to me!💗🙋🏾♀️

Hi LaDonna! Aww welcome to the Afrodisiac family! I'm so glad you decided to subscribe. 💗 The float test can give off inconsistent results sometimes. I recommend cleansing the strand of hair before the test because if there's heavy build up, it might float by default. When you do the shower test/ spray bottle test, you can see how individual sections of your hair respond to water. Sometimes people have different porosity levels in different areas of their hair. Also, if your hair dries quickly or slowly that another tell sign as to which porosity level you have. I'm very glad that this video was helpful to you! ☺️

When I saturate my hair with water I’m left with water beads. But my hair dries quickly. I heard high porosity hair dries quickly and low porosity takes forever. So what do you think my hair porosity of you don’t my me asking?
@daknox36533 жыл бұрын
There are many factors in hair care, but porosity is probably the least known, but most important. So much emphasis has been placed on texture, but texture only affects appearance and has nothing to do with hair health. Porosity and genetics are key. Genetics determine density, texture, and porosity, but porosity determines health..how your hair receives products. The wrong product or incorrect application can do irreparable damage. High porosity hair needs moisture..wet, penetrating, coating products to protect it. The texture determines the type of product used, coarser hair can handle more, but fine hair requires light products that wont weigh it down or clog the scalp, such as creams, lotions, loose gels or spray oils.

@doretha mcelliot most high porosity love and use loc. Depends on if you have fine or thick hair according to what oils and moisturizers etc to use. So apply water and or leave in. A good moisturing one. Then a sealing oil. Olive oil, avocado oil, argan oil, Jamaican black castor oil. Most denser hair you use thicker oils and finer strands use a lighter oil. I have fine to medium hair but I love jbco I just don't use a whole lot bc it can weigh my hair down if I use too much. Then apply a moisturing cream. If you need or want a hold, then apply gel. Or you can try lco method. Leave in, cream then oil to seal. Learn ingredients on if it contains too much protein or nothing moisturing in it.

I finally really understand my hair for sure!! My hair reacts the same way as yours to water. I’m a fine-haired wavy btw. With low-medium density. My hair gets soaked very easily in the shower, and when I come out, it starts drying up too, and I have to constantly re-wet my hair while styling. And my hair definitely tangles very easily. I wash every other day (so day 3 is when I was) by day 2 & 3, my hair gets tangled, and I’ve definitely experienced some breakage before in my hair. And I get fairy knots too at the ends. My hair is color treated, but my natural hair color has grown out a lot, giving me an ombré look. But I notice that even my natural hair on my roots reacts the same as my bleached hair. My hair has always gotten wet very easily, tangled very easily & badly too. Even before dyeing it. And I even experienced some breakage too so I believe I’m naturally high porosity as well😌. Although we have completely different curl types, I can definitely say I understand my hair much better as it does react the same way.

Thank you for that suggestion. I tried Bask & Bloom's sulfate free shampoo before. It was good, but it didn't cleanse my hair well enough. I find after moisturizing the same night my hair is soft and smooth, but the next day it looks shriveled up, but Still smooth and soft Do I need more protein? So that my hair strands stay plump instead of deflated. Lol Why is that??
@A-M44 жыл бұрын
Jesusis Lord you need to make sure you seal your hair after you moisturize it. Since your cuticles are open (I’m assuming you’re high porosity) moisture can leave fast so sealing with something heavy is a must. Some good sealants for high porosity hair are Jamaican black castor oil and butters like Shea butter and mango butter since they are heavy. I recently bought a sealant from the oyin hair brand called the burnt sugar pomade and it works really well!

I kind of have that issue too. I just learned to accept it at this point lmao. I think it’s because my strands are fine to medium on top of being porous so they don’t hold on to much weight, if that makes sense. When I tie my hair down, my twists are suuuuper flat and shrunken. Sometimes I stretch it with satin ties but high porosity don’t like to stay stretched. It’s such an awkward situation 😂

@AfroKhadisiac4 жыл бұрын
Hey Naula! 👋🏾 Those were seconds. The timer read 00:46.59. Hm, that's a hard question to answer. I would say that it mainly depends on how dirty/itchy your hair and scalp feels. If I were to work out every day, I think I would still only wash my hair once a week. With my hair type, it's too risky to wash it multiple times a week. I would risk getting moisture overload from over washing my hair every day or 2-3 days a part. This has happened to me before. It definitely depends on your hair type & lifestyle though. You should try washing your hair every other day and see how it responds to that routine. I hope that helps! 💙

My hair is like that too. It’s curly and fine in the front but in the back, it’s kinky and very bushy. It’s almost as if I have two extreme hair patterns in the front and back. I’m still trying to figure out what to do with my hair but I’d say just treat the back part of your hair differently. But different shampoos and conditioners for it. It’s tedious but that’s what I plan on doing and just being overall gentle with it. Good luck sister

This video was helpful. I live in a humid climate. Does this mean I am high porosity because my hair always absorbs moisture from the air? My hair reverts quickly, never stays straight, always looks frizzy no matter what I do. Also, if you prepoo with oil, how will the water test work? Won't the oil block the water from absorbing?
@AfroKhadisiac4 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you found this video helpful! Yes, high porosity hair will absorb moisture from the air very quickly! You're more than likely to experience an ample about of shrinkage & frizz when you go out in the humidity vs. someone with low porosity hair may not experience those things to the same degree. As for the water test, my hair absorbed all the water and I prepoo'ed with Coconut oil prior. Your hair should not have a ton of build up when you do this test because that might affect your results a little. However, true high porosity hair will absorb moisture no matter if you use beeswax, silicones, oils, etc. The cuticle layer is that raised so water will still penetrate quickly.

Hi Fiona, yes I am wearing makeup lol! I primarily wear MAC cosmetics make up. I do have a video sharing my makeup routine as well as the products that I use. I will leave a link to that video in this message. 😘 Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJexqY1nmamrY9k

I prefer thick products. I hate when my DC disappears before I'm done applying it

Interesting! I prefer medium consistency deep conditioners. They're heavy enough to coat and nourish my curls, but don't weigh my hair down. Sometimes with lighter deep conditioners I notice that my curls are more frizzy after my hair has been styled. So, I get more of a voluminous effect with lighter DC's like this one. Thank you for sharing Jessica! 💛

Girl your skin is glowing!!! But I think you didn't really show how disrespectful the water is to high porosity hair though lol. Water be like "no I don't want to be here", then it just runs out your hair like Bolt 😢. Lol. Anyway keep repping the high porosity crew. Great vid!!!

My hair loves coconut oil but my scalp hates coconut oil 😫😭 It's the only thing that detangles my hair in 30mins. Everything else it takes 3-4hrs to detangle my hair

SAME! lol. I use coconut oil on the length of my hair and a different oil on my scalp.
