It’s actually more common for “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” to be sung at the 7th inning stretch (middle of the 7th inning) than before the game. Also the beginning of a baseball game is called “first pitch”. I think the woman doing the video is probably not a huge baseball fan.

“Take Me Out to the Ballgame” usually is not sung before a baseball game. It is usually sung in the middle of the 7th inning, also known as the Seventh Inning Stretch. Fans stand up to stretch their legs before the home team gets to bat that inning, and they sing that song.

Okay. Bang for your buck doesn't really have anything to do with guns. It is a term that came from mining. The bang referred to dynamite. The miners needed to work out how much dynamite they needed to use to get the biggest explosion to make the most progress into the mountainside. And they needed to do it without using more dynamite than they could afford. They needed to get the most 'bang' for their bucks.

You left out where calling mony a buck came from! Specifically, it is thought that a dollar is called a “buck” thanks to deer and their skins. In frontier areas, both before and after the American Revolution, money was in short supply, and trading Buck Skins for goods was common.

The reason the seat beside the driver is called "shotgun" is because in the Old West, passengers sat inside of the stage coach. The only two people in the front and outside of the coach was the stage coach "driver" (reinsman) and the guard who carried a shotgun for protection against robbers. A stagecoach often carried money shipments as well as passengers.

In the Old West, if you were "riding shotgun" on a stagecoach, it meant you were sitting next to the driver, holding a loaded weapon (usually a shotgun or rifle), in a position to defend the coach against animals, bandits, etc. "Riding shotgun" eventually evolved to just mean "sitting next to the driver".

Along with the term “knock it out of the park” is a grand slam. That term refers to a home run hit while all of the bases are loaded (occupied). This means that the one home run yields three runs. The batting team then scores three runs.
@bhalliwell2191
@bhalliwell2191 4 күн бұрын
No; a grand slam gives the at bat team scores *four* runs: the bases are loaded (that's three runners to come in) and the player who's at home plate scores a home run for himself and drives the three runners on base before him, home. So, four runs.

John Hancock was a wealthy British subject living here. His loyalty was to the King. However, when the people living here got fed up with paying all the taxes to the King, and then he taxed the tea, that was the final straw. The British troops came in and took over Hancock's home ( kicked him out) for their headquarters. Hancock was not happy and decided to join the Americans in fighting for independence from the British. So when it came time for the Founding Fathers to sign the Declaration of Independence, Hancock wanted to make sure the King saw his signature( from A once loyal British subject). He didn't fear retaliation, but thought it could happen. He was making a point in signing so boldly. That is the reason behind his stand out signature and why we use that expression. "Shotgun". This expression comes from the old west and the " stagecoach" days. The stagecoach carried passangers, mail and gold and payroll money, so it was susceptible to attack from "Indians" and robbers. The driver had to concentrate on driving the horses so he needed someone to protect the coach and passengers. That second person with the "shotgun" sat up on top with the driver. "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" is sung at every game, but not at the beginning. Its sung at the "seventh inning stretch.". Ball games can last a long time so at the seventh inning ( each inning consists of both teams having their turn at batting and scoring) there is a break for people to get up and stretch or go to the rest room or get a snack. This is when this song is sung and everyone joins in. Unlike football games, base ball games don't have a marching band that plays. The only instrument is an organ. It is unique to baseball. . P.S. You can make S'mores ( they are named that because once you have one, you want some more). inside using the stove to toast marshmallows (on a fork) over the burner ( be it a gas or electric stove). Can put the chocolate piece on the graham cracker and nuke for a few seconds and then top with marshmallow and other graham. But, its more fun to do outside over a bonfire. Its a family bonding time when you can tell stories or sing and just have fun. We Americans love to go camping too and making S'mores is part of the evenings fun.

I disagree that saying "I plead the 5th" definitely means yes. For example, you can have a situation in court where you didn't do it, but if you tell your story in court, you would have to reveal another crime that you committed. That would also fall under pleading the 5th. Maybe you were stealing a car and witnessed the crime, and the cops arrested you and thought you were part of it. Or something.
