Yes we'd love to see Portugal, take us on a video tour!! I think it's feasible for you to live here for a year. However, be warned Andre, we may not let you go back we all like you so much. You can lease a place for a year and I'd buy an inexpensive car you can see when you go back if you want to or buy a used Truck so you can have that experience. We are so huge that I would make a list of what areas you might want to experience and live in and the pros and cons of that area, weather, job opportunities, etc. Since you love the old west you might want to consider a western state. If you don't like a lot of snow then I would visit Wyoming, and Montana , before moving there because it gets really cold for a big part of the year but it is beautiful. New Mexico is also a gorgeous state. Arizona for me is too hot to live in. However, Nevada is not just desert as Las Vegas is. Northern Nevada is gorgeous and has beautiful forested areas and the movie set of Bonanza ranch is there too and you can visit it. The West doesn't have the humidity that the south has so it can get hot but not boiling steaming hot like it does here in the south. Just some thoughts for you. The South is beautiful. I live in western Virginia in Roanoke. I am however a native Californian. I love Virginia, it doesn't get too much snow, just enough to love, and I love the seasons changes here. I love living in the Blue Ridge Mountains. But I do miss my beautiful beaches in California where I grew up. Hope you can come . You've got a place to stay in Virginia if you do. There is so much history here in Virginia.

If you decide to give the living in the US for a year a try, please don’t waste loads of money in the real expensive areas (New York City, Los Angeles, etc). Live in a rural (but still with excellent internet service) area and just visit the more expensive areas for a weekend or so. I’m partial to the welcoming friendliness of the south (because I’m from South Carolina) but the Midwest is usually friendly as well. We generally roll out the welcome mat, invite you to stay, feed you, and love to show you around. You could probably get put up at your US viewers’ homes for a week or so at the time all across this country if you asked. It would be a great way to see the beauty of this nation. Spend a week in each state. We’d love to have you!

I was thinking lease a place in a less expensive state and travel to different areas from there. The trains are rarely on time but are an inexpensive great way to see some lots of beautiful country. But this person's idea of staying with viewers is very good each could show you their state. You'd get the local info on fishing, swimming holes, restraints, private parties, local caves. We have lots of caves in Arkansas.

I feel extremely lucky as an American to have had a Grandpa who was LITERALLY a Cowboy, (and a Racecar driver). He raced Modified Stock Cars on dirt, and then transitioned to Sprint Cars while they were evolving into what they are now. And he then bought a Ranch on the Wyoming/South Dakota border and retired there and raised cattle. He even provided much of the Hay that was used for the filming of Dances with Wolves. RIP Grandpa Marv, you were a literal Legend.

Tip for your year in the US: If like many visitors to the US, you only visit New York, California, Texas, and/or Florida, you will have missed so much. Find a way to visit the suburbs and the rural areas so you can see the lifestyles of the rest of us. Maybe settle in an area outside a city that interests you. And don't neglect to attend church while you're here. So many visitors miss this, but the role of faith in the US is pervasive and life-changing.

If you like books about cowboys (westerns) my favorite author is Louis L'Amour. He wrote around 100 books with 25+ that were made into movies. The Sacketts, with Tom Selleck, Glen Ford and Sam Elliot, is one of my favorite movies. Hondo is one that featured John Wayne.

"Wicked Good" is pretty much only used on the Northeast coast, like Boston. I'm on the Southwest coast of California, where people would be more likely to say "Crazy Good"... but they mean the same thing. It basically just means something is "incredible" - a delicious meal, a cool stunt someone did, or even a reaction to a song/film you loved. America is huge, and there are a lot of regional slang words. Sometimes Americans from different regions have a hard time understanding each other because of the many accents.

Agreed. Andre would probably be best off finding a subscriber willing to cheaply rent him and his wife a room, show them around town a little, maybe help them find a reliable used car and be a knock or a phone call away. If multiple subscribers are willing, he could choose to stay with one for a while, then go on a road trip to the next and stay with them for a while, therefore getting to see more of the country.

It's the funny thing about those of us who are obsessed with "somewhere else." I probably know way more about Japan, in terms of geography and cultural things, than I do about the United States. It's possible for you to live in the USA for a year, of course. I was born here so I have zero idea how difficult or simple it will be. I hope you have no trouble at all, but most likely you'll have some stories to tell. I recommend that you live in a small town rather than any city. You can always visit a city. If you like cowboys, there are a few states where you could see some at a rodeo or singing. If you're still thinking about Indians, there's a few states where you could see some who still know some of their old ways, who dance and speak at state fairs, etc. I've driven through reservations but I've never visited a reservation. I worked with people of different native tribes (who spent their summers on the reservation), and my husband is on the Cherokee roll, but his family hasn't lived on a reservation for a few generations. Anyway, where you live should be enjoyable, affordable, interesting, safe, lovely, and so forth. Only you know what you'll like for a year. Praying you have a blessed visit to America!

Us Americans usually appreciate our country a lot. "Happiness is having what you want & wanting what you have." It's not that we are boasting or bragging. We love our bubble that we live in. I do think you coming for a year to travel is a good possibility. You don't have to worry about a job, you can KZbin anywhere. Some things would have to be worked out, you'd need a car, and health insurance. You can rent a place for a few months and then try another region. You'd know America better than a lot of Americans. 😅 You will be asked when you are going to become a citizen...often. See the above quote. We love what we have and welcome those who visit to join our party. I can't imagine leaving the US for long but I am happy to offer our country to those who want to stay. A little info on some of the old western movies. If you did not know the term spaghetti western are western films made in Europe. Clint Eastwood is famous for some of those films. You should check them out if you have not. "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly", "A Fistful of Dollars", "A Few Dollars More". Here are a few more that you may like. "High Plains Drifter", Pale Rider, "Paint Your Wagon". Great actor and Director. My Grandfather was a cowboy, raised horses, gambled, and carried a six gun. Living in the US is possible, where you live and if you need to work will dictate many things. I am not sure what kind of visa you would need to do so. I love that you read a lot of cowboy stories growing up. 😂 The wild west is America's version of mythology. There is truth buried in there, but the idea of it is so much exaggerated that we forget it's gritty and more complex than we imagine. FWIW, I played cowboys and Indians with my brothers and cousins as a kid. Actually, we also played Indians and Indians, since we're descended from a Catawba chief. So we fought over who got to be Catawba and who had to play a rival tribe. Anyway, if you came live in the US for a year, I think you should stay in the south or the interior states, where the cost of living is manageable. Someone mentioned Branson, Missouri. That's great for country music, but you really should pick a small town that isn't a big tourist place. So many great places! Visit the coasts and big cities, but live in the interior.

Andre i love your videos. Not only because we are told by some people that the US is hated in other places…so it is nice to see that there are people who can see the good. Especially in the people. But also it is helpful to me as an American to see the wonder and beauty of this place through the eyes of those not from here. I try not to do it but when you live someplace as magnificent as this country one can get complacent and forget just how blessed we are. It also is beautiful to see how humans regardless of where we live share so many of the same values and aspirations. I am excited that you plan on coming here. Don’t skip the Midwest. So many focus on the coasts and to see the real backbone of this country you need to visit what some of our politicians call the flyover states. Chicago is a beautiful midwestern city but yet it is surrounded by lakes and open country. I pray you make your visit and that you and your family have a wonderful time.

Andre, think of America this way, we are still a very young nation compared to Europe and other ancient countries. Once we gained our independence from England, we expanded across our part of the continent having to face hardships and learn as we went. We have been in a learning experience ever sense, and the usual attitude is "can do". Mainly because of the struggles we have faced so far. Mistakes were made but we try to learn from them. Right now we face division reminiscent of the civil war for different reasons. The majority still loves their country, still believes In the constitution and the freedoms it represents. Let's just hope we do not lost our "can do" heart. Thank you for showing your spirit and believing in us still.

I feel Zane Grey wrote The Best Western books. He did so on the Mongolian rim near Payson Az. And growing up in Arizona 50s - 60s it was the cowboy life with many movies being filmed in the surrounding area. That led to me meeting many western actors. James Arness even had purchased property next to our Ranch. And after we moved from there to another Hoot Gibson became our neighbor. And I did finish carpentry work for Lauren Greene on his replica of the Ponderosa. Rental prices very extreme depending on what state or city. If you want to throw away money renting in California or New York. Arizona would be far cheaper yet a studio apartment there would still cost $1,200 - $1500 a month. Expect to pay more than $2,000 for a two-bedroom apartment .The same in Colorado and other similar states. Here in the Ozarks you could rent a real nice three bedroom home on a few Acres for not much more than $600- $1000 a month. The grocery bills would also be about 1/3 the price. In fact you could even purchase 40 acres in a few States for less money than it cost to rent a studio apartment 1 year in New York. And you could expect to pay several times the price on everything else as well. Big City suck the life right out of you. The country gives you appreciation for life. Still if I was from another country I'd come here and rent a real nice four-wheel drive and start cruising the back countries and trails. Butcher predominantly in the Rockies. And I would experience all the many Scenic Railways America has. And I don't mean Amtrak. I'd raft the Colorado and snake Rivers. See the giant redwoods. Fact is there are States like Arizona you can spend a lifetime exploring just that state and never see it all. I've seen all lower 48 states extensively. And not just from the ground. The cruising slowly at 2000 ft. AGL. In the bush plane. And with that we have camped in some of the most remote areas with no roads only a small secluded Forest Service airstrip. If you were to visit Alaska you can get a guide to take you back in for some salmon fishing. They then ship that too Portugal within a couple days on dry ice. Or they can take you out to do some moose or grizzly hunting. And they do all the processing. And then also ship it when you're ready to receive it. The things to do are Unlimited. Your choice will depend whether you what the experience or just doing so to keep up with the jet set. Which is rather immaterial in my opinion. Same old crap meant to impress despite lacking substance. If you're doing things for others you're not doing for yourself.

If you want to spend a long time here, pick a medium size town in the middle of the country near a larger city with a good airport. All the big metro cities are expensive and since you wont be pulling big city wages, visiting is best. Tour the northern states during the summer and the southern states during the winter. Develop contacts in various regions to help with regional specifics.

Andre, it is quite interesting that one of the things that attracted you to the US during your youth was cowboys - books, movies, and TV shows. Since I basically grew up in the US (6 year in Europe till I was 16), one of my heroes was the Lone Ranger (Rossini's William Tell Overture music, second half). As a kid (in NYC) I would dress up as the Lone Ranger with a cowboy hat, black mask, and a toy gun & holster, and walk around my neighborhood! So, when I was in college, I bought my first real gun, a rather large western style revolver (Ruger .357 Mag), with a western holster and belt, and the belt holds 25 cartridges. I use to quick draw with this gun, just like the cowboys did in the westerns, and I got pretty good at it too! So, I had the same fascination that you had. On a side note, Hitler was also very attracted to the US cowboys, and watched a lot of westerns. But he NEVER understood the complete individualism and independence of these cowboys, and just saw the violence. He never saw that with the horse that they had complete freedom to go where they wanted, do what the wanted (right or wrong), and set their own goals, like owning a farm, especially big ones. I guess the Wild West is unique in history because it happened when people were expanding into non populated territory (the vast US West), and at the same time everyone had guns, and not just swords and/or bows & arrows like Europe and the rest of the world had when the population had expanded in the past. It was the gun ownership that made the West so wild. I watch all of your videos to the very end. They are so very interesting and uplifting too!

If you like Western movies, be sure to watch "Rio Bravo" with John Wayne, John Ford's "Stagecoach" with John Wayne, "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" with John Wayne, and "The Shootist" (yes with John Wayne.) There are lots of other great Westerns, but these are the ones that most came to mind. Also the Dollars Trilogy with Clint Eastwood: "Fistful of Dollars," "For A Few Dollars More," and "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly." Also, seconding what another commenter has said, I would love to see more of Portugal. Maybe take us with you going out to eat in Lisbon or Porto or walking the streets.

Best thing about USA IMO is that, the absolute diversity spread through out the states. The environments, style of living, local hobbies and interests, historic spots, parks and so on. You really need to figure out what it is you are looking to experience then go through and find what states, visits, ect that would fulfill that itch. Some only want to visit the three big ones (City living experience) others love nature and so will hit up the natural parks like Yellowstone, beaches and or lakes or mountain trips. Some just want to do the Amusement parks... Again, best to figure out what you yourself really want to experience then go from there. IMO, if you can find someone you are willing to trust that lives here, maybe book to meet up with them to go do a rodeo or fair (or what ever they have local in their area that would interest ya) instead of trying to find one yourself.. I hope you have a wonderful experience while here! I went to Universal Studios Hollywood as a teen with my auntie in CA, I adored it personally though, some was "corny" to me, loved the behind the scenes feel and the interactive shows they put on though, that was many years ago, have no idea what the normal schedule is for them now. lol

Andre, you can stay in the USA for up to 90 days on a visitor visa (B-2 visa). I'm not sure how renewing it works....I know that if you want to come here and have a job, you would need a work visa, which is much harder to get. 🙂 btw Andre, we have a neighborhood here in San Jose called "Little Portugal". Perhaps something to check out if you fly out here. 🙂 It's an 11 hour flight from Portugal 😲

Living in America is possible, but after a year, you're going to be spoiled with American comforts and find it hard to go back to Portugal. America has things that make life easier and places to travel that are so vast that you could never see in one year.

I think as someone who makes money from KZbin, it would probably be a little easier for you, than someone else. Coming here and finding a job can be difficult. If you can travel and still work for your job that would be great. But living here for a 1 yr would be cool, I feel like you'd have to travel to a different state every week to fully understand the whole country in that time. But the vast majority of Americans haven't been to all 50 states. I would suggest sticking to the "lower 48" states. But I think you would definitely enjoy it, especially as supportive of us as you are, I believe it would only enforce those feelings, you coming here and seeing the country and eating all the good food haha.

Strictly for logistics, I think the longest -term US non-student visa is 180 days, so you would have to go home for a week and renew it in order to live here for a year. Having a source of income helps; I assume you would continue posting as part of the experience. That would be a good way to see more of the country than two or three states.

If you can come to America for an extended period, DO IT. Something to consider: Perhaps you could visit a few of your KZbin viewers for a day or two in different states. They might be able to give you ideas of where to visit locally. In addition to all the usual vacation locales, visit the smaller but more typical places as you travel to the tourist locations. It would take considerable planning and vetting of hosts but would give you a more complete perspective of "beautiful America". Similar to the Brits who stayed with an Amish family overnight.

-The main thing I know about the UK and Europe is that my ancestors got the heck out of there as soon as they could (400 years ago?) so they could worship, live, work and prosper freely in America as they chose. It's still that way here, and I thank them for it with every breath. -Your length of stay would be up to how the whole visa thing worked out, and I'm sure not up on that. You could rent a place, lease a car, you probably have income from the channel so you would more or less be working from wherever you were at the moment. Would take some serious planning, but it would be the best way to get the flavor of our country.

It would be kind hard to just move to Portugal for one year i think ii would still be kinda lost ? Idk but yes possible! 100% Cmon Welcome😊❤

Andre, if you move to the US for a year, consider Colorado, along Interstate Highway 25 (I-25), maybe Fort Collins or Colorado Springs. (Denver is on I-25 but it is a bit congested.) I-25 runs north and south along the front range of the Rocky Mountsins, just west of the Great Plains where the cattle drives happen. Of all the states along that highway, Colorado is the friendliest, and it has a climate that is not horribly hot or cold, even though winters are very snowy. Systens are in place to deal with the snow. Lease a car, and you can take road trips south to New Mexico in the winter and north to Wyoming in the summer. I know I said Ohio gives a good overview of America for a 30-day visit, but for a whole year in America, I suggest Colorado. The mountains are spectacular, and the culture is welcoming and fun-loving. There aren't earthquakes or hurricanes or alligators. There are bears and mountain lions though.

I love your channel! I have never visited Europe, although I would have liked to. I did have a Portuguese neighbor for awhile. According to one of my grandfathers, I have Italian and Spanish ancestry. I guess I will just have settle for travelling through KZbin. America is truly a melting pot and the geography is diverse and even strange. I was born, raised and still live in Texas. I've heard people say I live in an ugly place (not many trees, dry, flat, brown), but I can see the beauty in any place. We have canyons near me, but Texas is like a country - we have beaches and forests and mountains and swamps - well, you get the picture. There are so many things I would love to see in my own country. I hope you will get to see a lot of America when you come (but, you could spend the rest of your life here and never see everything. I've only been to 18 states and 7 or 8 foreign countries (all in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean region). Happy travels!

I don't know what part you want to visit but Arizona is full of old west history. Old Tucson is where they filmed a lot of films. We have Tombstone and many Indigenous ancient dwellings. You also can't forget the Petrified forest, Painted Desert, the Crater and of course the Grand Canyon to mention a few. They are all within a days travel of each other and easily accessible. Go as a family to apply for your Visa and it might be easier than an individual. Good luck and hope to see a video of your visit.
