Honestly, the one thing I'm angry about is that they removed the accelerometer/gyroscope. Emulating a pointer with an accelerometer and gyroscope works *remarkably* well. Nintendo uses it for Wii games on the Switch that need a pointer, Sony uses it for the PS4 keyboard and I think some high end TVs also use it for keyboards. The reason the Wii was a hit is that the interface was dead simple. Point and click on your TV. My grandma could probably figure it out. It was the perfect TV interface imo and with the clunky sensor bar no longer being a requirement, I'm miffed as to why it's not more common.

They removed it because before this new remote the main reason Apple included those sensors in the remote is so that you could play Apple TV games with it, which I’d say didn’t work very well. @@Norweeg plex not needing to transcode on apple is because of a Plex decision. Internally Plex uses mpv on iOS and on desktop devices, on android it uses Exoplayer. Why the difference? Because Plex is a bad company and keeps making excuses. mpv is indeed available on android. Exoplayer is a worse player than mpv and isn't meant to be used for the kind of content Plex is meant to do, but Plex devs care more about money on a "Plex Arcade" subscription than fixing usability that's been broken for years.

Eh. I don't really mind the AppleTV gen 1 remote. I think it works fine. Annoyances will come with any device of this type. However, you also have the option of using the remote on your phone via control center, which is super easy, and you likely have your phone in your hand anyway. And, in my case, the AppleTV can be controlled with a Harmony remote. So, even if my remote is lost (which, I dunno, I guess my sofa isn't crappy and doesn't get stuff stuck in it, so I don't really have that issue), I still have the option to control it two other ways. And the hold to use the scroll wheel thing is dumb.

The best remote keyboard is the one from Magenta (T-Mobile): It features a QWERTY-like keyboard where you always select rows from left to right and you can select the letters by pressing up, center or down. So Q is up, A is the center and Y down and you move the selection from left to right.
