THIS is where cork comes from in Portugal! 🇵🇹

You probably think how cork is made is boring, right?? Hear us out on this: cork production is actually pretty interesting, and Portugal is where the vast majority of cork comes from!
Cork is an incredibly versatile, highly renewable product (similar to bamboo). We had no clue so many things could be made from cork! We primarily appreciate cork wine bottle stoppers. ;-) Here we go behind the scenes at a cork factory, giving you all the scoop on the entire process, from removing the cork from trees to turning it into fabric. Yes, cork FABRIC! It's far more fascinating than we anticipated. Plus we visit the oldest bullfighting ring in Portugal, and a megalithic site that is OLDER than Stonehenge! Both of these sites can easily be done as day trips from Evora, so let's go!

We are leaving for Lisbon Portugal next month. So excited, especially so because of your videos! We are amending our trip to include Evora which I didn't even know about, the Cork trees (souvenirs!) and Almendres Cromlech. We really enjoy your videos. We currently are in Evora (6-09-22) for three nights. We arrived by train, but we were able to take a taxi to view the cork factory. The cost for the taxis was a little less than 50 euros, this included waiting time for us to do the tour and take pictures. Keep up the great work.

@@TalesFromOurPocket Like many Oaks, It is not a fast growing tree. In your video you show a cross-section of a limb while explaining the bark harvest. I did a rough count of the rings and determined it to be around 20 years old when it was cut. So you can imagine those larger trees are easily 50-75 plus years old.
