The Rafale is a capable but underpowered airframe. The M88 engine in the rafale has a thrust to weight ratio of 8.40 to 1. The Eurofighters EJ200 has a power to weight to ratio of <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="557">9:17</a> In max reheat the disparity in performance increases EJ200 produces. 90Kn M88 produces. 73.9 Kn In dry thrust (where most of any mission is spent), the Rafale also lags significantly behind the Eurofighter; 60Kn versus 48.8Kn per engine. The rafale is probably more agile subsonically but given the extremely high lethality of mordern BVR A2A missles combined with modern Radars, the aircraft that is able to impart the highest speed and altitude (kinetic energy) to their missles will probably win the the engagement. The Eurofighter was specifically designed to dogfight/intercept at mach. I'm from a neutral country with no fighters, so I've no skin in the game. But i think physics still matters, so i think while in air to ground warfare, (though the eurofighter will be able to supercruise with a heavier loadout, by virtue of its high dry thrust) there is little between them, though the Rafale is still awaiting integration of an operational HMD (Helmet mounted display). In air to air warfare, i estimate the Eurofighter would be a more capable platform, especially given its DASS capabilities. Just an opinion! In terms of looks; the Rafale wins hands down.

Well, to win in the modern dogfight all you need is turn as fast, as you can and launch fox 2 missile, so rafale is clearly superior here due to better initial turn.

for the Eurofighter, it only has rear anti-missile jamming by an antenna which extends to the rear! the Rafale jams enemy radar with its RBE2 AESA radar (active jamming)

Dans un dogfight pur , c'est l’expérience du pilote qui fait la différence. Maintenant considérons que de chaque coté nous avons des pilotes avec un niveau d’expérience égal , alors c est la manœuvrabilité des avions et leurs rapport poids puissance qui feront la différence et aussi la capacité a voir se qu'il se passe. Le typhoon est très manœuvrant car les plans canards sont très en avant , sauf que cela gênent les pilotes pour voir en contre bas , ils doivent faire des petites bascule pour voir se qui se passe en bas . Cela peut faire perdre du temps dans la prise de décision .Le rafale est tous aussi manœuvrant , sans être gêné par les plans canards pour voir . Le rapport poids puissance des avions est semblable en étant armée avec juste des missiles fox2 pour du combat rapproché . Le rafale étant plus léger , il fera peut être la différence sur les angles d attaques a faible vitesse .

Rafale was designed with naval fighter in mind, while Typhoon was designed with dogfight in mind. In todays scenarios with drones and anti aircraft missiles, - Rafale is absolutely beast with 14 hardpoints, better take off mass, burns less fuel and is more agile. Like i said is more versatile fighter. Yes it can't beat Typhoon in dog fight(pilot pending), but how many dog fights you heard in 21 century?

War fames are not accurate representation of a aircraft wartime prowess. Usually, pilots limit the aircraft to not show the true power, and junior pilots are given advantageous positions to build up their confidence. The purpose is to build up better pilots, not to see who is better.

Rafale is like Eurofighter ....... Not Perfect It can do lots of things but in its lifespan it will be good sometimes but not always. Rafale started with a poor radar and that got binned and updated with an AESA version. That Rafale defeated a F22 or a Eurofighter at some stage doesn't mean anything, Rafale has been defeated by its older brother Mirage 2000 . It is all about evolution not history. That Rafale performed well in the Libyan conflict is often mentioned but so did Gripen flying around without getting detected/targeteted, only difference was it was doing the reconinance missions. The Royal and US Navies fired Tomahawk missiles on the opening day to silence the Radar facilities, they got little glory . Dassault perhaps overstated the performance of Rafale against a far from complicated defence system with limited capabilities , after all it was in their own interest. The Rafale has an AESA radar but so does F22 and again that was just a kick on from Japan's Mitsubishi F2 aircraft. Nothing is perfect so evolution is inevitable to maintain an edge over the competition.

the RBE2 PEAS radar a bad radar ????? LOL you know nothing about the Rafale!! and no, the Gripen was not detected since the gusts had cleared the area!! LOL stop doing drugs and talking so much nonsense! The Rafale was the first European aircraft to have an AESA radar, the second, the Eurofighter and lastly the Gripen! but the Gripen has no way of canceling its radar signature, the Rafale does!! The RBE2 PESA is a radar of its time, it had the capacity to track 40 targets and allow it to engage 8 planes, like the AESA, but the F22, its radar can only track 22 planes and engage only 2! the PESA or the AESA both have 3D terrain monitoring, which allows the Rafale to fly in territory below 100 feet automatically! but apart from the radar, and some engine developments, the Rafale of 2001 and the Rafale of 2023 are exactly the same, they fly in exactly the same way, there have only been developments in the computer programs for the use of new weapons ! in short, apart from the radar, no significant developments!

Yes, pretty sure the Rafale was based on the Mirage-4000 wich was developped way before the EF project. If you compare them, the Mirage-4000 and the Rafale are extremely similar in term of airframe...

@@stgoldshaka The Rafale wasn't selling more before the tranche 3 and now 4. Which means 15 years with an half baked jet that couldn't do much outside of Air to Air. Same issue with the Typhoon though, but I'd argue that it was better for the pure air to air stuff. I think both jets are amazing for what they do

Mayor velocidad, aceleracion, maniobravilidad, empuje, cota de altitud, alcance, no necesita postquemadores para dogfight, y por si fuera poco las ultimas versiones van cargadas de novedades (Radar Aesa por ejemplo) que les dan muchas capacidades que antes no tenian o en las que eran deficientes. The Thyphoon is the best multirole Fighter in the world right now! They can make the best propaganda but the Thyphoon is the best in speed, weapons payload, better engines and the overall design, the Rafale is a great Fighter and they are similar but the majority of the Rafale sorties is two huge tanks with max 2 racks for 4 Hammer 250 bombs and 2 Meteor or Mica missiles, the Thyphoon normaly is seen with 6 or more paveway with 6 anti air missiles and space to carry more 6 Brimstone 2 missiles in 2 racks and a targeting pod! But the Rafale represents everything i want for Europe the Fighter uses all European weapons, engines, everything even the nuclear deterence and aircraft capable is amazing multirole Fighter both are great but the Thyphoon is a better Fighter, to bad the partner nations specialy Germany is a bunch of oxymorans they praticly almost destroyed the project, the cheapskeates dont wanted to update to a AESA radar, they implemented weapons totally American and diferent from the other partners, the electronic suite, defence suite, they never show interest in conformal fuel tanks or trust vectoring, and they dont have bought what they say they wanted to buy the British save this project, but orders was Lost and the advantages the Fighter have was gone, they were fixed in a air superioraty Fighter instead of a multirole Fighter and this damage the first batch of the Thyphoon, Germany is the worst country in Europe for joint projects thats why the British after the Thyphoon have gone by their own, Japan just get in and Italy they have a strong team no doubt, but the French have taken a huge risk by jointly developing a Fighter of 6 gen with Germany, Tanks, Attack Helicopter they destroyed the EC 665 the CN TIGRE that they refuse to use a French cannon, why they dont have used a german one like the RMK 30 or the Mauser MK-27mm cannon that is a awesome cannon with adjustable rates of fire very fast, its all execuses but the French are guilty to by exiting the PARS 3 missiles that awesome a great missile very well design and amazing warhead that from 9kg should go to 10kg and increase the range from 8km to 10km but thats easy changes, the French decided to buy Hellfire and produce another missile the MMP and the Akeron LP without the Germans that needed a missile to replace the Milan and the HOT 3 missiles for light aviation , thats why but thats not just because of that they choose to use the Spike LR and MR but the Milan is still a great missile with some updates and increase the range to 3.5km or 4km and easy increase in velocity at least by 25% because its a cheaper and a compact weapon capable of destroying any tank! Now the Germany have the PARS 3 missiles that adquire more or less 700 and Indonésia bought 500 or 600 and with they receive more orders will be OK but i dont know Germany will not adquire more and thats the problem Europe will end up with 3 to 5 missiles for anti armour every bigger country want their own missiles and they end up with nothing because the prices are ridicolous and have no great capacity to produce quantaties if needed like what is happen in Ukraine and some of those missiles and up in obscuraty or sold to some spy to countries that reverse engenired and end up with something great, thats the problem with Europe they dont even have rocket artillery program its unbelievable, the land armies and air forces deal with ridicolous small quantaties of munitions, all the programs is the same you just to see how ridicolous this all crap is! But why people keep spreading bs... I love the Typhoon but better payload? The Rafale can take more while being lighter than the Typhoon. It is faster yeah, but also less agile at low altitude because of the design of the "canards". Both jets are great but they definitely have their strengths and weaknesses. Also, what's the point for the Royal Navy to get those humongous carriers when all they can fly on these are those stupid and overpriced F35B ? The French left the EF program because they wanted a Navy version of their jet, and they did well. What about the Typhoon? Can't land on a boat sadly, so you had to buy F35B... Again, love the Typhoon and I think it's a stunning jet. But let's stop spreading nonsense, on both sides. Tired of this "Typhoon is the best in the world" and "Rafale is best in the world, can even defeat the F22" bs.
