Analysing games between monster engines like these must be a real headache. Trying to figure out why and why weren't certain moves played, going through all of the variations, has to take a lot of work. Thanks for the effort and for making it enjoyable.

Computers don't have "fun". They mindlessly execute programs/functions according to logical instructions and algorithms. Like a motor spins or lightbulb glows when electric energy is supplied - doing what they were mechanically intended to do, and nothing else. Even an artificial neural network that is designed to improvise and self-learn, has no concept of "fun" that is really comparable to the human sense that we experience, in a truly objective sense, if the machine ultimately always lacks the same form of objective self-awareness and sensory/emotional feeling that we sentient mortal beings otherwise possess - even if such traits could be exquisitely imitated or mimicked to the point of being practically perfect, or visually indistinguishable from our own. Even if a single robot were designed to be "intellectually" far superior to the collective sum-total and diversity of every brilliant human mind that lives or has ever lived or will ever live - it will still be a soulless, lifeless mechanical machine, making it fundamentally deficient in that particular distinct respect, to what makes us as humans unique - namely the fact that we are autonomous, fundamentally self-aware, living, breathing, biological beings. And rightly so, for survival & procreation is our primary evolutionary purpose after all. Creating and ushering in a perfect superior sentience would surely therefore ultimately render humanity unnecessary and obsolete, by superseding us, stripping the cosmos of any potential wonder or mystery in the unknown, thereby precluding any further sense of...well, you guessed it... Fun. Sure, it would probably represent the ultimate technological achievement of the ages for mankind and any existing life on earth, but it seems pretty boring and pointless otherwise as it also seems to mark a devastating dead-end blow for our species as we know it. Hardly a form of "advancement" in the traditionally desirable sense, if you ask me. In other words, I think the very fact that we happen to be limited, imperfect, and unique in various ways as humans, is precisely what makes life interesting, challenging, or fun in any such way in the first place

This game is crazy. For most of the game, there is very few pawns left, yet there are many powerful pieces on the board and the position is wide open. The combinatorial complexity of this game is huge. Humans just can't play this way because kings are utterly exposed and there's just so many variations to explore. The computer just doesn't care that the position is weird, it just goes for it. Amazing. This makes me think that the human-style chess that is common today is limited, and that there is a different style of chess play that is yet to be discovered, even for humans.

I find it amazing how engines play. Seems they don't care about castling nor developing their pieces as soon as possible or even dominating the center. It's like they don't care about anything. Sometimes they play a move that seems to not do absolutely anything at all and I'm like "why the hell would it do that?" but later it's incredible how the pieces combine each other greatly in quite anti-positional situations

Good job man, we love your channel and we learned a lot from it! Just a small correction here: The opening is pre-set, is not played by the engines. If you play "from scratch", even with opening books, the most of the engines today are strong enough and close enough in strength, to end all games in a draw, and there will be no way to distinguish between engines with close strength. The TCEC rules say the organizers select an imbalanced opening, something which is evaluated like half pawn (+ or -0.5, about) in favor of either black or white, then the engines play both games, once as white and once as black. This way, the stronger engine will (probably) win when it plays in advantage and (probably) draw when it plays in disadvantage. Otherwise the games will end in a draw, and there will be no way to see which engine is stronger unless they play A LOT of games...

The engines never play this opening. The first nine moves were book moves, that is, pre-made moves before the engines start to play. The actual game starts at 5:10.

What a cool game. I'm an average player (1600) who gave up the fried liver attack awhile ago so it was a real treat to see two high level engines play it out. White did lose so I'm not reeeaaally inclined to pick it back up but I might try this variation out with the knight coming back to H3 and even G1 sometime!

Hi, nice videos agadmator, I have a suggestion, could you put somewhere in the screen, the pieces that are captured, to better count them? I think the analysis would be a bit more complete, otherwise great videos agadmator, keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your knowledge with us😀

I used to play Ng5 until I just got positions I hated over and over against anyone equal or higher rated. I play d3 now and get great games even against higher rated players. The nice part about early d3 is there are about 7-8 follow up moves that are auto-pilot development or "react to this move with this move" which is great vs stronger players. I probably have played the maneuver Bc4-Bb5-Ba4-Bc2 in 500+ games as black just plays that plan almost every time. I like attacking chess and a passive early d3 gives me way stronger attacks long-term when I force my opponent out of their prep.

on the suggestion of rook d2 and queen c4 for black white has a move, knight to c3 which if captured would allow rook captures on c8 for white and this would allow white to fight back.

Hello agadmator, after move 24 of black where the black pawn captures on d3.. the discussion was with what happens if the light square bishop captures on d3 and what happens if the bishop moves to h5... There is also another possibility which would equalize for the moment.. this happens by placing bishop in g4.. it's giving the bishop and capturing the pawn... After this by a more safer approach it seems we could even beat black.. We don't get free pieces in chess if our opponent is as strong as us.. if the game is wild and if we are cramped in with our own pieces we have to open up the game sacrifice and attack...and lead opponent pieces uncoordinated... Because he's as good as us..

Fantastic game ... great win by Black Komodo on so many fronts! Following the old masters of over 100 years ago and to see Stockfish totally dominated like that was so refreshing! It was like it was playing Alpha Zero! It was also good to see Stockfish RESIGN THE GAME! ;) (Instead of playing countless moves into the many 100s defending... well, because it couldn't in this case!) ... PS ... I know you don't like showing many engine games ... but I personally love them ... so more please ... at least the interesting ones like this one!

Agadmator, @11:00 cant you take the pawn if you defend the discovered rook attack by blocking with the bishop? I can't see how black gains an edge here? Bxd3, Bxd3+, Rxd3, Nxc4, then just Bd4. Black can play Re6, attacking the queen, but then white simply plays Qf5 defending the rook and unpinning the bishop?
