You just don't get how hard something like this is. It looks like he just asked, but this guy found a way into the ELITE pirate corp, fought alongside them for a year, and socially engineered his way through this scam. That is not easy, it took time and patience.

Poly Gamey Doesn't really take much talent to lie and con someone out of something once you befriend them and gain their trust... But maybe it's because I'm good at being a dirty rotten scoundrel? Just patience and dedication. He did achieved his goal no matter how you look at it. If you think about it, it's actually the owner of the ship's fault for barrowing out his ship to others. That's just asking for something like this to happen. His trust was seen as a vulnerability and thus exploited. Don't lend things out to others that you wouldn't mind losing. There is always a chance you'll never see it again.

You guys seriously fucking underestimate the skill required to be accepted by people and be believable while doing so. she didn't even need to steal the thing... IT GOT HANDED TO HER, while apparently pulling off some convincing enough pvp action. "Doesent take talent once you befriend them" NO SHIT, the hard part is in the disguise, even the psychological manipulation in order to make something socially acceptable is admirable. Just because it's a fucking game, doesen't mean it's child's work.

Blue★ not quite true. There are many meet and greets and community gatherings although. The prominent example of this is Goonswarm which was derived and originated from the something aweful forums which is an online chat community of players that would join games and play them together.

Eve Online has such legendary tales that events caused by the community have been burned into the lore of the game itself. It's amazing just how this MMO is shaped by the people who play it. And the stuff that CCP let's happen because they believe in a true sandbox, they do step in and ban people that use bots or abuse the game in anyway. They don't want cheaters after all.
@lsaacN7
@lsaacN7 7 жыл бұрын
I know games like EVE are rare in the MMO genre, but the concept of a Massively Multiplayer Game where the community has little to no effect is weird to me. As an example everyone on a World of Warcraft server could meet up and have a war on a grander scale than all of the scripted expansions and it would have no effect on the game at all. I suppose at the time of World of Warcraft's release meeting people digitally was still a novelty, but there's now 100 other way to do that and I can't find another reason for so many players in a linear experience.

The thing is, EvE released in 2003, WoW in 2004. And EvE was always designed to be this way, there were some unexpected changes along the way, but it has always been open ended like this.

The coolest thing is all the new players who know about the wars that happened 10 years ago when I was just starting, and they are full on impressed that I was there in the fights that they heard of, and want full accounts. I get to tell stories that they've never heard of, because I was in alliances on the side of Band of Brothers, but on the flanks and behind the scenes. So much stuff goes on in EVE, that if you ever wanted to make a TV show.. you would have years and years of material. It would be too much for a movie. It would have to be a series. Just the first Great EVE War (BoB+Allies vs the EVE Universe), would be enough for an entire season, or more.

If you played EVE and invested time into developing your character, you'll know that this Samantha guy started the game with this type of thing in mind. That or he chose it very early on. The game literally has "talent trees" (for those who MMO) that focus on deception and robbery. Can't get mad at a guy who played the role. Everyone talks about the depth of the game, but seem to ignore that EVE developers practically promote this crazy risky behavior. Anyone can choose the path of a scammer, robber, or whatever you want to call it, but few pull off these major heists. Does anyone remember waaaay back when someone hijacked a whole corp's titan with tons of resources and treasure and sent it off far into space, taking ages before someone found it? That guy spent a looooong time trying to infiltrate, manipulate, and climb the ranks, all with the goal of screwing over a Corp? I feel those guys who lost their ships took it so well mainly because they all know that Samantha played a role that is literally offered in EVE. Sure there is some butt hurts left unspoken, but in the world of EVE, Samantha aced a valid role. Personally, I never could do stuff like that since I play any game that requires you to invest time for progression, mainly for the friendships. Hats off to Samantha, same for the 3 who took the loss so well.

Pretty Good Gaming On Ark survival evolved official cluster server instead of an alpha tribe me and a few other tribes kept grief ers and raiders at bay so game could stay fun for everyone. worked for months and I constantly emphasized that any scoundrel could play nice and screw us over within a few days if they armed up in secret so it was important not to trust people willy nilly. Well... I was right one tribe played friendly until they could start wiping tribes offline without leaving evidence. I actually caught them but it was too late they got their emotional meathooks in everyone and within 2 weeks couple tribes left rest got wiped now half the island is walled off and covered in turrets... unplayable. :(

Tiktokk: Sure buddy tell me about it. Samantha: Let's pretend that I played with you for 16 months just to steal your most worthy ship in the game, like a really cool con artist would do in real life. Then we post this on the Reddit and people who bought the story will feel bad for you, then you can set up a "go fund me" and earn some easy money and then we could go get some hookers or something hehehe... I play eve online and have been for several years. I can confirm that eve is cutt throat, you don't trust anyone in the game. For the people who feel that the game is "unfair" please note its a true sandbox. It can take time but if you find the right corp, you will love the game. Make friends, pew pew and loose ships. Loosing ships permanently sounds horrible to some people but it makes you remember why you need to get better at the game. If pvp is not your thing, being a space trucker or a market trader (no SEC rules either!) you can figure out why real life does not operate in the same manner =)

I played EvE for about 6 years, didn't have a 90 billion isk one of a kind ship but had pretty much anything I wanted. Being in the IT field for work I ended up managing my corporation from work, playing at work, never lost my job but it was affecting my work performance. When I get home I would go out and pvp for hours then back to real work on 4 hours sleep. When one of our nulsec setups would get attacked I'd take a day off work to defend it. Running 16 clients at a time with massive bot mining operations. God those were the days, I loved every minute of it. Then one day I had an epiphany and realized I had to stop playing because the time commitment and addiction was causing problems with work, my marriage and just life in general. I got divorced, bought a dog and got back to real life with a little bit of gaming here and there. EvE is indeed the best sandbox MMO ever created (so far).

6:36 right in the feels man :'( so you sell your friendship (the best ship) for 300b? Now what? You have to buy a new pilot and start over, either playing it straight and join a capital fleet of an alliance or continue this behavior and keep scamming... or you could start your own corporation and create something for other people to enjoy and give back manifold what you have taken. A scammers life must truly be lonely in an already dystopian universe.

most I ever dedicated to a single goal in a game was 13 months in a browser rts. My account was in the top 100 by the end and had 26 villages being managed manually (I didn't like the paid Merchant manager). The partner I worked with and myself archived our goal at the end by winning the end goal the game had for the server. Stories like this are tame compared to some of the stories I read and heard about in that game's forums from the extremely competitive members.

I do something like this in rust, certainly not a multiple monthlong thing, since rust has weekly wipes that reset the map to make things fresh, but I play with a group(who I randomly met by sneaking into their group and just started giving them a pep talk about how "we can do this", I didn't know what they were actually doing, but they let me into their group because they liked my attitude, I have been playing with the people for over a year now) and they do the building and I help out however I can. Whenever a rival group builds a base nearby and they haven't seen me with my group, I approach them and act like I just started the new wipe. I talk to them, be nice, I always come with absolutely no gear, so they believe I play alone, and i gain their trust. They let me into their base, I act silly, and they allow me to run with them. What they never realise, is that I'm taking screenshots of the layout of their base and upload them to my groups discord, they let me craft stuff for them, which allows me to find out where their loot rooms are, giving us the straightest shot to their hard earned loot, sometimes I encourage the rivals to raid our other rivals, with varying successes of them taking out the other rival, or they get wiped out, making them a weaker target. Then after a couple days of this, me and my group strikes. With all of the knowledge I gathered from spending time with these guys, we wipe them out fairly well and they leave the server for good. My friends jokingly call me the sociopath of rust sometimes because I'm seemingly the only one who can manage to befriend these rival groups, they like my attitude I guess, and I've done stuff like this around 5 or more times in over a year and I still do it around every wipe. I kinda feel like making a KZbin channel around this kind of stuff. Would anyone be interested in this kind of thing? I would be willing to if I could get a decent subscriber base around it. It's always really fun to do and I like doing it.

I've been playing for about 6 years give or take. Things like this rarely happen, but 300 billion ISK was worth more than the his gained friendship and respect, as well as his entire reputation in game. Now, no corp. in the game is going to trust this guy. All upper management of large corp's will know of his name. They either will not let him in for being a known infiltrator or spy, or will never allow him to gain in ranks. He threw his credibility out of the window, but became a legend at the same time. 300 Billion ISK in US dollars is approx. 3,000 dollars. 90 billion is is about 900 dollars. On the current market in EVE for Plex(A different currency than can be used as in-game time or sold for immediate ISK), 10 bill = 100 dollars. Depending on how much you play the game, on 1 character, it'd take about 6 months to a year to gain that much ISK using in-game methods assuming you don't lose any in the process and ONLY grind for ISK almost every day. At the same time this hurts EVE because people have the immediate thought that you have to be some kind of old rich guy to play EVE which is false. Nooby friendly Corps such as Brave Newbies Inc. or EVE University help out newbro's all the time with free disposable ships. Many wars ingame are fought with cheaper Doctrine fleets. You can easily do well in EVE without spending a dime.

6:10 I think you hit the nail onm the head right here. Samantha can spin a great story, but I don't believe this was some long con. When I was a little kid collecting pokemon cards, I had a friend who was prepared to break ties with me so long as he could run off with my Machamp. We were actual friends, but at that moment he was focused more on his personal collection than playing the game with anyone. I'm inclined to believe Samantha saw an opportunity, did something shitty, and chose to lose his friends.

You ask us to share any long planned heists we had pulled while playing eve. Well years ago i spent about 6 months getting myself into the mining directors role of a group by the name of miners in barges. Then part of the alliance "free trade zone" in wicked creek. After about 2 more months of playing that role i managed to dissasemble 3 pos towers 1 of being a death star and aroubd 8 billion in modules ships and high end minerals. I then managed to very carefully, using 4 accounts, scout an obelisk filled with my loot and flew it all the way up a friendly pipe to empire where i then exchanged all the goods to alts and slowly over days moved it all to jita / amar and sold it all off. My takings were worth approximately 25billion isk. The characters have since been sold that i used to pull off the heist. They were "jarel obleek" and "etherianna". After that heist o felt a bit bad and retired from piracy.

I heard another story that they added this new ship with A.I that could match the players and they lost 2 massive ships to it. But they eventually sent a few fighters in and destroyed it, then a pirate flew in and stole the blueprints for the ship and made a run for it. only to be destroyed by one of the big capital ships

Close but not quite, they introduced a new exploration site containing an industrial complex thats the only way to get blueprints for the new blood raider faction capital ships. The first, and so far only, time it was taken out someone ran in in an interceptor, nicked the blueprints then got blown up, taking the new blueprints with them in the explosion.

I used to do that on world of warcraft back when it was good.. I was the redridge druid and i would constantly harass red ridge because my water travel form would make it so no one could catch up to me. No one played feral druid or boomkin at the time( I was feral), so I would destroy the town mercilessly then once alliance started calling in high level reinforcements I would jump into the water and just swim away. I had so much fun, but those days are dead now :(

I invested about 3 months for about 15BN isk worth of stuff. I realize that that's not much money, but the initial plan wasn't even the heist. I originally had wardecced a corp that ended up hiding in a wormhole system. After about a week of recon, I eventually found an entrance to their system and planted my alts. Worse, I LET THEM KNOW the alts were there, and were mine. This basically disabled their entire alliance as they were too paranoid to do anything knowing that I, specifically was watching them and could get them in their WH or outside (wardec was kept active) After another two weeks, they finally agreed to a 1v1 duel, the winner would either pay me a ransom, or if I lost, would retract my alts from the wormhole. It was a frigate duel, and the ships were chosen unknown to the other. I forget what I brought, but as soon as I saw his ship on d-scan, I knew what the outcome would be - a loss for me, which I told him in local immediately. But, being the honorable pirate I am, I went through with the duel, lost the ship, and pulled my alts out of their system, ensuring they watched me leave. Well, about half an hour later, I get a message from their "pvp leader" and I end up getting invited to join their alliance. After a short while I effectively become alliance lead in all matters pvp. These guys were, to be fair, relatively new to the game and many of their members had no clue about pvp or even ship fitting. I spent the following two months trying to get them into shape with decent fits, a good WH defense fleet, having ships on standby, etc. Eventually, after continued signs they wouldn't progress(or even listen to logic) I became disenfranchised. For a period I had genuinely joined to help them out. But then, thoughts of my progression through their ranks and access to POS hangers and the like began to give me ideas. I spent the next month or so trying to get them to build up as much of a fleet as possible, and give me access so that I could "distribute combat ships in the event that leadership is not online", which was, again, still kind of honest, though the thought of a future heist was now pretty well bedded in my mind. Some weeks in, I had access to three POS's and their hangers, with only the shiniest ships kept in a single hanger that I could not access. Sadly, had I spent more time, I probably could have gotten full access. The hanger I knew had a carrier and some faction ships. Nonetheless, as it turned out, When the opportunity presented itself, I got a friend into the alliance, got him similar rights as I vouched for his pvp abilities, and one night when alliance was mostly offline, we put up our own POS, just a protective bubble, really. We then spent the next two hours ferrying ships out of their 3 POSs and leaving them in space inside ours. One of the leaders logged in as we were just finishing moving ships to see about 3 dozen ships on d-scan and nearly had a heart attack. Then he realized all of the ships had his naming convention and had another. He ended up watching for the rest of the evening as they were powerless to stop us from moving their entire fleet, two ships at a time out of the wormhole. All totaled, we took about 15-18 BN isk worth of ships. Wasn't the best heist, by far, nor the most honorable... But are they ever? What actually made me feel bad was that the alliance leader still wanted to call me a friend afterward. I don't know if it was for fear of retaliation should they try to attack us, or if he really was just that nice a guy. I actually still have him on FB. Eve is a very weird place, socially.
