I'm french, I agree that they put less make up or no make up and in many cases put a bit more effort into their skin care. But these examples in the video are celebrities who still have treatments/ surgeries. As far as weight, not everyone is slim in my country or well dressed. One thing i would say is they are more overall into simplicity in comparison to the UK which is more bold and extravagant in terms of style and make up. In some cases they also have a healthier lifestyle if they can stay away fron the sun and cigarettes 😂. I like the simplicity of the french, but i also like a bit of boldness and extravagance at times, it' s fun.

I'm 50. My 'secret' is good posture, no foundation, little to no makeup, sunscreen. Good duet, exercise, abd acknowledging that im 5p and want to look like a nuce looking 50 year old, not a 40 or 30 year old. End of story. I will never cut my face either. Unless i get mauled by something and will need reconstructive plasric surgery.

I wouldn't say Madonna represents the entire lot of women outside France haha I srsly believe that I have tried almost everything to look younger + delay aging as much as possible, anything from face exercises, vitamin C serum, Fraxel, collagen supplements and of course Retin A (7 years straight), home devices and what not. However, nothing made any real difference compared to the high-quality derma pen I purchased for around 100 bucks. Within 3 months of use, my skin has improved DRAMATICALLY. I don't look like I'm 18 again, but definitely not 44 either. My fine lines have disappeared completely, and my nasolabial folds are way less are nonexist (Never had jowls though). People often underestimate the power of wounding and the revolutionary effects it can have on the skin and instead spending thousands on useless treatments like Botox/fillers which can look unnatural over time due to muscle loss, or fillers due to tissue displacement.

+1 for kora. I've been doing microneedling since it started 12 or so years ago. Nobody believe I am 55. They all say I am in my 30's or early 40's. As you know, as we get old, our skin gets thinner therefore creating wrinkles. But the wounding kept my skin still thick and youthful. Your comment will help so many women to restore their skin..

Not every French women above 50 looks like Inès de la Fressange or Sophie Marceau. They can also be full bodied and/or on the heavier side. What set them apart IMO is their acceptance that everyone age and it's always best to make the best with what you have. They also know that indulgence is good for the soul when it's done once in a while, not everyday. Living in Europe also means you get to be more active because you need to walk more so that takes care of the daily exercise . Para-pharmacy products are of top quality and priced democratically. They dress neatly with functionality in mind and prefer to have une bonne mine than a face full of makeup. These common sense practices come across as chic and put together because they feel effortless yet disciplined.

I definitely have emulated the French look most of my life. Currently my make up routine is minimal…. no foundation, no eye make up, no big hair. After applying moisturizer, and lightly filling in my sparse eyebrows, I apply a bit of powder bronzer on my cheekbones, and maybe forehead and chin, put on some lipstick and voilà! Oh, and my mid length hair is always clean and bouncy.

Absolutely. However, years after menopause, even skinny women who regularly exercise can get stubborn belly and back fat, spider veins, cellulite, and crepey skin. The hands and neck show aging first. Women in their late 60s and 70s get the shock of their lives when they see themselves in the reverse camera of their cell phones. Embracing inevitable aging and keeping a positive attitude is helpful. Too many older women are angry, bitter, and deeply depressed, as if they have given up on life and living. Never give up. Keep going as long as possible.

I thought, if she looks that fantastic then I can do this. I still dye my hair from time to time but I choose the lightest ash blond now, not a dark chocolate. I maintain my silver with a purple shampoo and conditioner one a week and I’m never going back to dark hair!

First of all, American celebrity culture is not representative of normal people. The Kardashians et al. does NOT reflect most American women. Secondly, the U.S. is a huge country with people who have descended from extremely diverse backgrounds, so all of us look entirely different. Furthermore, there are major regional differences when it comes to fashion and beauty approaches. Women in New York, LA, Dallas, Miami, etc. have very different looks. Also, there are huge differences between urban, suburban and rural looks outside of heavily populated areas, too. Furthermore, the kinds of food we cook often reflect our vast ethnic diversity. There is no one type of American anything.

Thank you. I left a similar comment. I did not appreciate an American leaving a derogatory and profoundly inaccurate comment about American women “worshipping youth,” She also stated she doesn’t have to shave “because she’s over 50” and is all about retirement. I will continue to shave my legs and I do not see “retirement “ as anything I want to participate in. This is fine for anyone who wishes to do that, but don’t include me in your lifestyle, that’s all. 🇺🇸

@@pomelotree2 true. Am in France now and the women are ordinary. The beauties here are all arab women with the large eyes, clear perfect skin, massive falls of silky hair and full lips. Most of this french stuff is a myth. They're nothing compared to the women of Scandinavia. And as for aging, nothing compared to the women of asia. As for style, they're stylish for europeans, but not necessarily so compared to other cultures.

Great advice and guidelines to self-confidence, beauty minimalism and STYLE! My mother was French and her skin was always flawless - a simple, but diligent daily skincare routine. She used Dove soap and a warm washcloth to wash her face morning and night followed by Nivea skin cream. Her makeup consisted of black eyeliner, mascara, lipstick and a little blush. She also recommended good sleep and said you get your best sleep before midnight. She was ALWAYS dressed beautifully even going to the grocery store - the epitome of French class and beauty in every way. Une belle femme au quotidien de sa vie !

I am glad I am Asian so as I age it is fine to look more like grandma hahaha. Asians, on average, tend to see aging as being more wise and experienced (even though many are not so wise hehehe). Now that I am nearing 60, I am not afraid to look like a grandma because younger people in my country are more helpful because I am old. Of course, the stylish old ladies are admired by people all around them here but if one looks like a dowdy grandma, it is also fine.

Yes, all this advice about chic and stylishness as we age - it's very nice, and reminders not to let oneself go are always useful, but I agree "it is fine to look like grandma." I remember my grandmothers - always nicely dressed - soft, cotton dresses with shawl collars and maybe a brooch - they exuded gentleness, had a maternal softness. The last thing they were was about show, whether seemingly effortless or not - enough that they were sweet-smelling, well-kept and carefully neat. Obsessions with the right flare-legged jeans, the right cardigan, the right shoe and the edgy haircuts would have been unthinkable. For them, indispensable to Secret #9 (slowing down) would have been taking a walk with their beloved grandchildren who were not the least judgmental about a few extra pounds, facial lines or gray hair.

I find French women, especially Parisian women to be much more appearance conscious than say American, British, German, Dutch, and Scandinavian women. They like to give off this image of looking natural, effortless, practical yet elegant and chic for that classic and timeless look, but I find them often very contradictory and judgmental. They tend to be very appearance focused like Italian, Russian, Korean, Chinese, and Lebanese women. Who cares if you are a bit chubby, love excessive makeup, big hair, bold colors, etc. Do whatever makes you happy. What really shines through your style is your personality and energy you give off. Look at Dolly Parton, for example. A wrecked mess visually, but such a charming and darling woman, that who can't help fall in love with that effervescent energy.

In my opinion the point here is about the public image that French celebrities choose to give . They seem very natural even if there is a big work on that (body, skin, hair care). On the other hand there is a way coming from other part of the world that pushes women to use heavy make up, counturing, big lips, etc . This heavy treatments are used even by young girls in their 20s and dont benefit femininity. So the French style of stars is more charming because of their choice, apart from genes .

For me great it's not be in 50 and looks 10 years younger but be in 70, 90 and looks 30 years younger, and have the same ability like 30 years before. Like Ernie Hudson or William Shatner. I still can't believe how they look like, looks like scam. But this is really great. Still have energy for go for shopping, for clean in home, be independent in old age, even go to the gym like Ernie or play in movie. French women don't naturally look younger. But American women look younger than most european women of the same age. French women look slimmer over all, they are less voluptuous in general, at least until they are older. .Many times, they appear slimmer because of smoking. I got a Swedish bf and he loves plump women with curves, and a friend of mine from LA has quite wide hips and thick legs, and her German bf loves it, he says in Germany it's not so common for younger women to be curvaceous and full. Actually, how we feel is the most important thing. Accepting our shape and don't listen to bs about what's best, but living as we like. The French always love to think they are the best at everything. :) Je ne crois pas.

You should say "celebrities and rich French women". In Paris, you cannot only see posh women shopping in le Bon marché, there are also "real" women having "real" jobs. Do you ever take the RER at peak time? I can see all the exhausted people who age like they can. I doubt they are going to the hairdresser each week and have subtle fillers and botox injections. It is so superficial that kind of videos. Madonna is one of the biggest celebrity in the world. Everybody knows Madonna. She always had a big ego. Of course her response to aging will be over the top.

At 50, starting a new job in France?!!! Are you joking? At 45, people are considered too old for the job market! You should know. Do you live in France?

Jesus wept! Because listen to how many times you say “younger” If I had a nickel for every time I could afford a full face lift. The point is that they don’t try to look “younger.” They use the proper word, they try to look “pretty” “beautiful” “attractive” NOT to look 20. So every time we trade the word attractive for the word “young” we are setting ourselves up to look ridiculous. Really want to look “young” try a onesie, a diaper and drive a stroller. If you want to look “gorgeous” however…now we’re talking. If the only thing that is good is “young” should we go all Logan’s Run and kill ourselves after our thirties? May as well because every day that you live makes “young” irrelevant. Gorgeous, however, is ALWAYS relevant. The right words lead to the right idea.

Not all of us look young. Though a good trick is that we are physically active (we walk or bike everywhere), we eat well and according to our needs, we take care of our health, we don’t overwork ourselves and mostly we have good genetics. My mom is 65 and you’ll think she’s in her early 50s. My oldest sister is turning 45 and she looks 30. My other sister and I are 37 and 29 and we look 20. We have good genetics. We don’t smoke or drink alcohol even though it’s very common in France. Stress also has a lot to do with oxydation and aging.

But we all know that skincare and their promises doesn't work at all. There are a lot of studies about this fact. You have to clean your skin, warm water and a washcloth will do. When really dirty (!), after gardening, caring for your horse (😉), clearing your shed, take something to clean, I use a simply soap. And then put something on your face you're not allergic on and gives a little fat on the surface. I take a simply allpurpose cream from time to time a drop of olive oil because my skin isn't sensible at all. Eat healthy, sleep enough, be outside, don't wear makeup every day, be active outside not in the gym, take walks even in the rain, and quit looking tv and stop comparing you to others. And don't vote forTrump. Stupitity and hate are making wrinkles.😉 Me, Frech woman, over sixty, looking ten years younger. And THIS is quite enough. And I didn't start with expensive skincare in my twenties.

Wish USA culture supported slowing down, taking care of yourself. Some of these pursuits can only be attained if financially comfortable, w/disposable income. Could be financially savvy, budget, invest, but some careers make it impossible to earn enough money to grow it. Good financial planning could be moot, e.g. retired English teacher. I do accomplish some of these

My thoughts are a healthy diet, moderate physical activity good skin care. I do agree with a good hairstyle that suits your face and your personality. Dress, neatly and stylish for your age group. I do believe that your base attractiveness is genetic. There are things that you could do to increase your attractiveness as stated before good grooming, good styling personality, etc. let’s face it. Not Everyone can look like a model, but we can always enhance physical traits.

I’m 59 with very fair skin, so summertime as a kid was rough as I would get a sunburn and it hurt like hell! As I got older I avoided the sun as much as possible, this was before sunscreen. However, at 13 on a trip to Florida I got severely sunburned with blisters all over my face. My mother took me to a dermatologist and he told me about a new product called sunscreen and told me to use it every day even in winter. I swore I would and as a side note he told me it will avoid getting wrinkles as I got older. I am glad I listened to him!

I suspect the main difference between Madge and that lady is a distinct lack of plastic surgery! I'm not French, although my great, great granny was, and my Nanna always used Nivea and soap and water. Unfortunately, I am allergic to soaps, even non-allergic ones! But what I do emulate is that I never leave the house without a spritz of perfume! French, of course! Hers was always Chanel no. 5. She was always dressed well, too, so genes will out!
