I was about to leave my parent's to go back home to London when my Dad found my late Grandfather's Omega Seamaster DeVille from 1965. I got in trouble with my wife because I was supposed to help her pack and get the kids ready for the taxi, but I couldn't miss an opportunity to make a video on this stunning piece!
I hope you like it.

1. It's gold filled, not gold plated 2. Should be easy enough to service with a qualified watchmaker, preferably one with a parts account 3. Changing the crystal to an omega crystal is easy, the watchmaker can do that also

Gold plating didnt exist back then. So gold filled has a fairly thick layer of gold.

This was my 1st luxury watch. My late uncles watch gifted to me. I just serviced it w/a old watchmaker who has vintage NOS parts. Ran well before but figured I better get it done before too late. Great dress watch for weddings, etc. I think fits those occasions better than the Submariner and the other tool watches.

Do not wind and wear that watch for any extended period of time. The dried up oils and greases will act as an abrasive wearing down the wheel pivots. A service is a must! Let a skilled watch repairer service it before using it. Good luck and gorgeous watch btw.

beautiful watch......I got burned on a 1964 Omega Seamaster once from an antique watch dealer in Canada. I got most of my money back but I don't trust anyone any more he lied about everything.....about the watch being fully serviced, water tested ( that was the first red flag, these vintage watches are NOT waterproof ), he said the watch was all original with all new gaskets. I wore it while washing dishes one day and the entire watch fogged up I took it to my local watchmaker and he said the watch hasn't been serviced for decades and was completely dry, all gaskets were dry and useless, missing the crystal retention ring, wrong crown for that year I later found the owner of the shop on all the major watch forums and he was banned from all of them for ripping people off. I wasn't the only one that got scammed from him

Adrian: Recently had my 1968 Omega (166.010) overhauled by Omega. It stopped running the day I received it from an ebay seller, so it was in bad shape. I took it to a Swatch Group Service Center. The rep accepted it without blinking and even complemented me on the watch. Omega replaced at least 9 gears and other various parts. Now, it runs like new. I wear it every day. They gave me new (reference correct) hands, and they sent me the old ones back so that I can have them reinstalled if I care to. I advise that you just find a rep that will accept your watch. They’ll send it to Switzerland, because that’s where they service the oldest movements.

Another great vid, thanks. You’re probably aware but if you want an Omega serviced “the” person to speak to is Simon Freese at Simon Freese Watchmakers. Top guy, REALLY knows his stuff, used by Omega collectors and very good value. Just had one of my vintage Omegas done after others said it couldn’t be fixed and it’s working beautifully.

@@alexgroushko3142 I had it done approximately six or seven years ago through Mallory's in Bath. It went back to Omega in Switzerland. I think the cost was #550. I bought it from Ebay so had no concerns regarding keeping original parts. The original parts they replaced were returned to me. It was a pretty comprehensive rebuild.

Thanks for the video. Its seldom worth taking a quarrel with the wife, but for this I can understand you ;) I had an identical watch, which was my first Omega. The guy I bought it from had it since he was a child. It needed a service , and I sold it, regretting this very much. I fell for the beautiful unique design. It is such a beautiful dress watch, but when it was new it was also thought as a waterproof sports watch. And these 5- and 6- series Omega movements are amazing. These watches are monocoque so there is no back to take off - everything goes through the front side. It looks like you have the beautifully styled original crown. I really want another one, but the prices are quite a lot higher these days. Take care.

I'm late on responding, but I have this watch or at least very close to it. Mine has an original dial and the markers are a little different, but mine does have the seahorse logo and is gold filled. It is dated on the back 1964. Mine also says "automatic" under the Omega logo at 12. It has an original omega movement and was a great find. Just sitting in a jewelry case waiting for me to pick it up - all for $230

I got my dad's Seamaster Deville, had to be serviced, somehow the crystal was badly scratched and the crown was missing, but otherwise it was in very good shape, it took 2 years for my watch guy to track down the right/authentic parts and it works like a dream now, loving it, looks the same as yours except it has a day of the week indicator in addition to the date, and I think it was a more basic model because the plate on the underside is plane with no engraving.

Never knew them as vintage back in the 1960’s, later knew them as old fashioned timepieces, years ago thought they just junk, you can put your own value on them was what you paid, if it’s gold, wait for gold prices to rise then flog them.

If Omega said that, they are just focused on quick repairing barely new watches to owners that take theirs to the garage every 3-5y as the brand conveniently recommends. Shame on you Omega...
