THIS is Why I'm BUYING a Ferrari 296 GTS! My First Drive

I've ordered a Ferrari 296 GTS, and this is why! Join me for my first drive in the future Shmeemobile, to discover the new Spider inside out; from a drive on mountain passes, to the hybrid powertrain settings, and demonstrating the roof mechanism. I cannot wait for this one!
The 296 GTS follows a winning formula, taking the 296 GTB and bringing a folding hard top roof to the mix. Mechanically identical with the 3.0l twin turbo V6 combined with an electric motor on the rear axle to deliver 830hp, the GTS was planned, designed and engineered alongside the GTB with the intention to always create such a wonderful Spider. The roof tucks away in 14 seconds while driving up to 45km/h (28mph), and results in a unique floating bridge design across the buttresses, complementing the other lines found across the bodywork.
Having bought and driven already around 5,000 miles in my SF90 Stradale, I've opted for the 296 GTS to offer a variety of driving experiences between the cars. The V6 power plant is quite a different driving experience alone to the V8 with 3 motors found in the bigger brother, and the 'Piccolo V12' soundtrack is truly glorious. With the GTC4Lusso also in my garage, I' will have a splendid mix of the V6, V8, V12 and Coupe, Spider and 4-seater cars from Maranello.

WOW!!! That is an absolutely GORGEOUS automobile! I like that colour blue *almost* as much as your SF90. I say almost because your SF90 is, without hesitation, simply the most beautiful example of automotive artwork I have ever witnessed. Your spec is objectively just perfect. 8:30 - It will over rev to match engine speed with drive train speed (flywheel/clutch and motor). It'll then gently settle as the clutch engages properly. It's a manufacture strategy thing to stop the cars from chewing the clutches to pieces. Even my Focus ST does this to help with rev matching when you change gears.

I'm loving the fact that the paddle shifters are a decent size unlike the older versions like in the 458 there tiny & trying to change gear while turning the wheel you use to struggle with your fingers struggling to reach them I must admit it is a stunning looking car @shmee150

I have driven the 296 GTS stop/Start drives me crazy and I cannot yet get used too the digital dash I am still prone to hit things by accident… it is brutally fast has fantastic steering it’s cool to drive it in electric and surprisingly the engine note is there even though it’s a hybrid turbo v6! The look is very nice best internal design since the separation from Pininfarnia .

When I first saw the SF 90 on KZbin, I was quite surprised by the looks and my first impression was that it surely doesn't look like Ferrari from front. But Tim change my perspective when they told us in the previous Ferrari video that how cleverly and beautifully Ferrari refresh their car design in around 10 years. And here it is now, every new Ferrari starting from SF90 (till the new Ferrari hypercar I believe)is beautifully constructed under this new design philosophy. Ferrari is always above it's competition.

Cool to see you and I will likely have 2 of the same Ferraris. I was told 2 1/2 year wait for 296 GTS from my salesperson at Ferrari Beverly Hills. No real buying history with them because I only recently started making “serious” money at the beginning of this year. I bought a Bianco Fuji SF90 from them preowned and expressed interest in the 296 GTS.

I love the look of that. It harks back to the Dino and 308 - it’s about time Ferrari revisited those iconic cars of the 70’s and 80’s. This is the first new Ferrari I personally actually like the look of. I think this might even become a future classic. Imagine how it would be with a gated manual gearbox like the new Lotus. I think that is one of the best looking Ferrari’s in a long time.

Maybe the first time I actually prefer a spyder Ferrari over the berlinetta. I'm a fan. I'd spec the interior darker, though... I think a mocha color would fit the blue exterior nicely.

I know the regulatory and technical trend is toward electrified cars but it would be interesting to think about a gas only version of the 296. One of my cars is a plug-in hybrid and it weighs 400 pounds more than the gas only version because of battery, electric motor and charging/power control electronics. A version of the 296 with the electrics deleted would make for a very agile pure sports car. It would have a similar or better power to weight ratio even with the electric power gone. Maybe in the future someone will reengineer a 296 that way.

I liked the GTS version in yellow of your SF90 as driven to Liverpool to catch the Isle of Man ferry and drive around the TT motorcycle circuit by Harryagaragevids. This costs less so isn’t as good as the one Harry had: V6 instead of V8,with more torque and smoother. The electric motor on the 296GTB/GTS only has a 15 mile range and your missing the extra driven front axil with AWD and it’s probably mainly RWD most of the time. Maybe you get for front trunk luggage capacity, but the spider SF90 sounds better and is a superior car, especially if newer built ones incorporate advanced the 296GTS has. You also said you had problems with the SF90 being dealt with by Ferrari. I like convertibles like Porsche Targa 4 GTS currently best model. You speak too quickly to take in the details.

I think the color of this car is close to what I'g order, maybe a bit lighter blue metallic - cream interior with dark blue contrast. Silver wheels, yellow calipers to match shields.

The best thing about this car for me is the power it makes and the v6 sound. The styling I'm not convinced at all. It's the front, the design of the DRL'S and headlamp design just seem off and combined with the large mouth makes it look aquatic ( a bit fishy )......Still, the noise is nice for a modern v6. And the power tremendous!
