You’ve helped me to make up my mind about my next Camino. This past June I walked the Camino Primitivo and absolutely loved Asturias! Next year I think I will walk the San Salvador and as far along the del Norte as I can in 2 weeks. Thank you for your wonderful videos!

That sounds like a great plan- the San Salvador is such an amazing route, and you'll have a lot of fun getting a taste of the Norte too (plus you'll have several days of beautiful coastal walking!) Thank you for watching and for your comment! :)

I know, these views just make me want to go back, and go back, and just keep going back to walking this route (I could walk the Coastal route in Portugal again too! Just so beautiful!)

I remember planning to go to the playa silencio but just before the turn point I came upon a lovely white horse who needed feeding! 3 or 4 apples later the farmer came with the usual feed so I shared a few words and walked on, forgetting completely to head to the beach!😂 I loved this stretch of the Norte too 👍🏼

I think feeding horses is a good reason to have missed the Playa Silencio... but now it's a reason for you to go back!!

The part of your videos that I enjoy the most is the final dinner. Specially when you have arroz con leche. I hope you're back with us very soon.

I hope I'm back soon, too! (and arroz con leche at the end of a long and good meal is one of my favorite parts, too) :)

So so beautiful! I feel very emotional seeing this footage after completing the Camino Portuguese this summer. Knowing that I can do my next Camino only in two years breaks my heart. Since the I am gonna watch your videos and dream about it ❤

Yes, in between Caminos I like watching others’ videos (and plan for the next route, of course!) But it also helps to revisit the memories from your previous walk- it could a like you had a beautiful Camino Portugués!

Walking the Primitivo right now after just finishing the Portugues, and coming across lots of people that flipped down from Norte and now I kind of wish I’d done that. It’s too late to start another walk this year but it’s on my list now.

There are definitely a lot of pilgrims who do a Norte/Primitivo combo (that's what I did back in 2015!), but in some ways I wish I had done the "full" Norte, and then gone back another time for the Primitivo. So now you have the chance to do the entire Norte route- if you want- and it will definitely be a stunning experience. (I hope you're enjoying the Primitivo!!)

Do you have a listing of each of your stops and detours to the coast somewhere that I can access? I really like how to traverse the Camino del Norte and would like to have your route available. Also do you recommend a Camino app to use for staying on course and detours? Thanks
@NadineWalks

In terms of my stages, that's listed in the title/description of each video (along with where I stayed). As for my detours, I think the easiest and best resource is this post on the Camino Forum... it's what I used to plan a lot of my coastal variants! www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/coastal-alternatives-to-the-nortes-asphalt.49578/

Gorgeous route! So visually stunning. What were the painted rocks at the start? Is that alternative mountain route mean to be done in one day, with no services, since there would be no place to sleep? I could really feel the humidity as you were talikg about it.
@NadineWalks
@NadineWalks 2 жыл бұрын
I'm actually not sure what the painted rocks were, or how they got there... The alternative mountain route is a single day walk, I can't remember how many kms without services it is- I think probably under 20. So it's definitely doable in a day, you just need to be prepared with food and water!

Actually drinking warm or hot drinks when it's warm is better then drinking cold drinks. A cold drink may feel better to you in the moment but research suggests that drinking hot drinks in the heat actually has a greater cooling effect on our bodies than cold drinks. When I travelled in Turkey in great heat I was wondering why everybody drank tea but they definitely had a point.

Thank you for this info! It's hard for me to put into practice (because nothing seems more appealing than a nice cold drink on a hot day!), but it's definitely something to keep in mind.

Have you felt unsafe at some point during Camino Portugués?
@Andy-Mesa

I’m not a woman, but I did just finish the Portugues (with lots of solo females) and I can’t imagine a problem on this or any other Camino.

In march of this year i met some girls of 23 , 28 and 34 years and they hadn't any issue of feeling unsafe.

Personally I never had any problems on the Camion Portugués and felt very safe, and in general feel that walking the Camino is a very safe thing for a solo female pilgrim. That being said, there have been incidents for other pilgrims and I always try to be aware of my surroundings. If I ever get a funny or unsettled feeling, I listen to that. Some pilgrims- particularly women- feel nervous leaving a big city or town early in the morning, so they try to walk out with others. I'd never really done that but this summer- on a different route- I was passing through a city early on Sunday morning and there were groups of drunk people still out from the night before. Nothing happened but I didn't feel comfortable so I got myself out of there quickly! This was not a well-traveled Camino route so there weren't other pilgrims around, but I made a note for myself to be aware of cities and weekends and timing... knowing that passing through or out of a city early in the morning might put me in situations that I'm not super comfortable with. But generally, the Camino is a very safe experience!
