THIS Is Why Jesus Uses Birds To Address Anxiety | Beginner's Bible Study In Matthew 6

This verse has special meaning to me. It was over 20 years ago and I was at the lowest point in my life. I grew up in church and thought I “knew” what it meant to be a Christian. I wrongly believed it was a head knowledge and trying not to sin. I couldn’t help but wonder what must be wrong with me when I was a “Christian” and yet I was still struggling with anxiety and depression most of my life. Long story short, one late August night my girlfriend and I had an argument and she said “I don’t know what’s wrong with you, but I hope you get help to fix it.” I left her house that night and cried out to God and said “what is wrong with me?, I don’t know why I’m so worried and depressed please fix me.” All of the sudden this verse, Matthew 6:25 came to mind and I could literally feel Jesus right there in the car with me speaking these words. An amazing wave of warmth and love enveloped me and all I could do is think, how have I missed this my whole life? “ I shouted with tears of joy, “You’re real and you are saving me!” It hard to explain to anyone that hasn’t experienced it, but I know God was right beside nodding in approval and speaking the words “Now you get it.” God’s word is real and it’s amazing how he spoke a verse that I hadn’t read in months, to my spirit in my most desperate time of need.

This is my favorite scripture. I prayed and asked God to tell me something today because I’m worried about being unemployed and my next steps and i immediately clicked here because He knows this is my favorite verse. This goes back to something I heard on the Joyful Journey Podcast. The source of anxiety is placing our faith in something apart from God. Nothing apart from God is Stable. That is why when you place your faith and dependency in something like money or even your own strength (which is not a gurantee) you will be anxious when it threatens to leave/actually does leave. But when you place your faith and dependency in God (who is guranteed), our anxieties fall away because He isn't going anywhere. GOD is the source and provider. Nothing else. What we depend on is directly connected to how anxious we are.

What a beautiful message. This is so rich yet short. What pop-up for me is the word life. CHRIST is life. I have terrible anxiety over my job and depression over it. Grateful to have it on the one hand but I dread it so much. I do it to get the money to pay my bills not any other reason so this makes me think. Anxiety is robbing me of life like you said! But we are forced to have money unless we want to be homeless so in turn we kind of look to money before we look to God. However, I definitely look to The Lord Jesus Christ everyday all day because He is the only way I get through it. I'm sick of not having joy and going to a job I hate to pay the bills. This world system sucks. I told my husband to work on Sundays because I am so horrible to be around because I hate my job that I have to have to get the money. I can't find a different job to save my life and the Lord knows I have prayed about it. Great video! You make studying seem so easy.

God is true to his word. Usually every year I struggle to grow things in my garden to save money on produce, and because home grown foods are healthier and just taste better. But this year, because our old water pipes in the old house corroded to the point they were leaking, we were forced to do a major overhaul on it all. It was overwhelming as some of these pipes were encased in cement. We had to gut our bathroom completely essentially starting over. No shower for a week ! We bathed out of buckets. I wanted a garden so bad but realized I didn't have the physical ability to do all of this, nor the time. I was distressed about it. This scripture, Matt. 6 came to my mind, and I resolved to give it to God and trust him for our care. Now, through our daughter and people she knows, God has funneled in our direction, fresh corn, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, tomatoes and potatoes. Never before have we received such a bounty! This is our Lord showing his faithfulness to a fool like me.

Wow this is such a beautiful passage. The Holy spirit started to connect the dots in my head. It’s not just about food, water and clothing. It’s about EVERYTHING. when we said the birds are not calculating and strategizing, I tied it into things such as starting a business. Of course there’s planning to do however, only God will provide you with the success. Planning is always limited, God is limitless. The incredible depth, beauty, and richness in this verse is mind blowing, (actually every verse in our Bible is) but in speaking about this one: before I became born again having debilitating anxiety was something I pretty much accepted as normal. It became part of my existence bc I was stuck with my focus on the sinful world-what it offered was what I thought gave me fulfillment and purpose… What a recipe for disaster, death, and misery! I find when my mind gets stuck in the world and my thoughts, feelings, and perceptions of what’s true and righteous get distorted, sins like mistrust, greed, ingratitude, doubt…the list goes on and on-begin to take over. Worry, fear of the unknown, and anxiety become debilitating at times and it’s all because I’ve shut the Lord out, and allowed the enemy to creep in and get me to accept his lies regarding what’s most important. What an amazing thing that our God even commands us not to worry or have anxiety! The precious opportunity of life everlasting that’s been so lovingly given to those who ask Him has value of profound and never ending proportion-beyond what our mind can comprehend or even imagine.

Hello! I just had a key employee tender her resignation just a few moments ago and I was honestly distraught and at a loss as to what to do. Needless to say, I felt a lot of anxiety. We had this summer quite some blackbird families in our big yucca tree, and a lot of their youngsters fell down while they couldn't fly yet. We lent a helping hand as we have two cats and somehow managed it to keep them safe. It's amazing to see how the parents care even by putting themselves in danger!!! I've suffered from severe anxiety for many years and have been hospitalized and heavily medicated due to it. I understand the difference between God and money. But my prayers go unanswered, and God doesn't pay my bills and feed my family. What am I doing wrong. I want to be free of worry and meditations that are slowly killing me more than my anxiety

Very interesting to see the english translation in "you cant serve god and MONEY". That gives me chills, cause in my mother language (german) its translated to a word i couldnt find in dictionaries or would even know about it (Du kannst nicht Gott dienen und dem Mammon) Its kind of enlightening, thank you :)

I imagine the German version is trying to translate literally, as that is a word present in many manuscripts, specifically a word with a lot of history across languages (hellenestic greek and aramaic), but means loosely "wealth or riches" so money would be an appropriate rendering of the concept. You can also look at Luke 16:10-12, where an English translation such as the ESV renders it "unrighteous wealth" and then continues later with "you can not serve both God and money". Both wealth and money are the same word in the original greek.
