Good job! That thing was deep!! Not sure why LR thinks it's a good idea to stick a plastic pipe in a hot aluminium engine and they still stick with that idea because it's the same with my 2016 LR4. All those plastic pipes are fine for a little while but it just takes one time that they overheat for the o-ring lip to just stays in the hole without the rest of the pipe attached! Gladly, there are always aluminium replacement pipes and alu thermostat housings to upgrade those. I just checked and they have it for Freelander 1 as well (if you ever have to get back in there). Cheers!

Absolutely foolish to have to remove the top of the engine just to get to the thermostat! Unreal! I was working on the window regulator on my Rolls Royce Corniche today. The thing had 12 wires going to it...just to move the glass up/down! Stupid! Every other car has only two wires!
