Slight correction here: Raigeki isn't bad, just not the best. This really only proves your point more, but Lightning Storm lets you choose between Raigeki and Harpie's Feather Duster if you control no cards, which is just more versatile.

To explain: Back in the old days, Raigeki was an absurdly powerful card that allowed you to wipe your opponent’s monsters with no penalty. All the time, resources, etc. could be blasted apart just like that. It was considered far too overpowered and too much of a game-changer, so it was banned. Now, there are so many ways to get around Raigeki, from monsters that can’t be destroyed by effects, to cards that can be played from hand on the opponent’s turn (giving you no preparation) and stop it cold, to monster cards that can get their row back up again thanks to bullshit abilities (see the video for a good example), to some decks working BETTER with more dead monsters. The rest of the game power creeped so hard, Raigeki just isn’t as strong as it used to be in comparison

Responding with “HandTraps” is the go to response for anyone trying to defend the current YGO Game state. When youre ability to win or even play the game is completely decided on A) Who’s Going First B) Do I Draw Hand Traps in my 5 Card Hand? Hand Traps dont always save you either. I play Master Duels and someone Ash Blossomed Me and I still continued on. Didnt even phase me. This game literally is just Set Up Board of Omni-Negates Draw/Search 25% or more of my Deck to gain advantage to ensure my opponent cant play If player 2 cant break your board or if they failed to draw Hand Traps then they just lose. No interactions. Just scoop mode and move onto game 2

I did quit when XYZ and Synchros were added, cant actually remember came first, but that was the point where things took the shift from just clever use of cards and mechanics "into this does this and this and this and now i have a full field, and you have no way of countering m, because i also have a ton of cards in my hand that prevent you from doing anything." These days, if i ever go to play the game, ill only ever play it if only uses the old format, stretched to something like the Ancient Gear archetype which does use quite a bit of special effects, but is still no where near as egregious as it is now.

They leveled it up again and again and again when there was no point. 99% of cards dont EVER get used. WHY THE FUCK DID YOU MAKE THEM THEN. Tens of thousands of cards and millions of different strategies you could do gone to degenerate, boring, textbook learning, abusing of broken stuff, type of shit . Its sad also because the people that wanted to play it casually have stopped and now there is less and less people to have fun in yugioh with. @Tribute Doll IMO, pre pendulum was when yugioh peaked, XYZs were powerful but were limited with their abilities with the detach mechanic (which obviously went nowhere since later XYZs like hope harbinger completely avoid this mechanic) and them pendulums introduced the confusing combos that arent even impressive or fun to watch. And then Links came and are so horrendously overpowered due to generic material.

(But more skilled yu gi oh players call pot of greed a +1 card advantage.) Everybody would be playing pot of greed if it was unbanned, it has NO downside, which is honestly the reason it is considered broken in this format. If this was 2004-2006 yu gi oh, where draw power isn't as prevalent, then maybe pot of greed would just be limited.

I knew the game was stupid when my opponent summed 4 monsters with over 3000 atk that can negate everything on his first turn. Took about 5 mins to do that. Once it got to my turn, I couldn't do anything. Negated everything I've done. Even my hand traps couldn't stop him.

I played a guy that used this deck, I play yosenjus and I need traps to help protect me since they leave the field, anyway i ended up winning game 1 and losing game 2, game 3 i fiendish chained his saryuja, he got visibly upset, then I striked his borreload savage dragon, he hit the table and scooped, saying "why don't you play a combo deck stop hiding behind trap cards", I responded "the only difference between my negates and yours is that yours have attack points". He left.

@@Stormchazer246 you don’t have to, you can also play a control deck, or you could play more hand traps, if you have 8 hand traps you’ll usually draw one and against explosive decks like this, the choke point is going to hit hard enough that you probably won’t be able to come back. The thing is that if you watch tournaments, you might see something like this happen where one player wins easily because the other player bricked, but that’s hardly what always happens, and on top of that, that situation has happened for the entire history of the game.

I think when synchro first came out, it was still fine since all the synchro monsters required specific tuners to be summoned. It only went downhill once synchro changed to require just any Tuners and had small easy to summon monsters which you could basically resummon indefinetely.

Same story for me (played from the beginning of synchro era to sometime around the limiting of D-rulers as a bwing player.) Got back in late 2017. Fell in love with the game more than before. I am able to actually purchase cards more than $10. My locals have a casual night where I play everything from Anti-meta Bwings to Earthbound Immortals. And even went to my first regional with Six Sams. I love the game now more than ever. I am just sad I missed so much of its history now. But I do recommend coming back into the physical card game. Just find locals with a casual atmosphere and have fun. The most negates I have ever seen a deck put out that isn't meta is 3 when they open a busted hand. And Blackwings also have a great matchup against Sky Striker and Altergeist with the new support so that isn't too bad.

If you're planning on stepping into anything Yu-Gi-Oh related, Speed Duels/Duel Links or Rush Duels are probably your best bet for actually having a chance of winning and having fun (although Duel Links has its share of bullshit as well which I suspect will only get worse as time goes on).

Dueling nexus let's you play online against other people around the world or against a ai opponent and build decks for free. Alternatively you can download the ppsspp emulator and download tag force 1; it's exactly like old school yugioh up to the gx era. No synchros, xyzs, pendulums or links; just fusions and rituals. Both are really fun 👍.

With so many omni-negates and unbreakable boards, there's no player interaction anymore unless you're in the casual circuits. The playing for fun attitude has either been eradicated or discouraged in the yugioh community cause everyone just wants to play to win. Its sucks cause anytime you don't take things seriously like not wanting to read the cards. A bunch of people just get pissed cause how dare you not want to read rather than learning as you duel. Its annoying cause of how elitists have taken over the game completely. If you want to play for fun. You have to play with already existing friends. I feel like the social aspect is gone too cause dueling is also a social experience by engaging with the other person. But engagement has been completely cut off by just 1 turn wins. My gripe about it is not only the power creep,but if you even want to get anything done it has to be what we called back then a "cookie cutter" deck. I picked up the game again Hells,even still have my decks from late 2002/early 2003 it sounds like it's become more "meta or bust" which sucks for people who like to make creative decks that still had a chance to be good and somewhat on par. I feel this comment, because I love the game, but I've never been a player who follows any sort of meta. I've always played for fun with cards I personally liked and thought looked fun, and I try to make my decks specifically not oppressive because I don't like that playstyle. I never have more than one negate on the field, and usually it's the one archetype monster. It's dumb, but I also don't like handtraps, so I only have the one Ash Blossom in my zombie decks. As a result I get absolutely destroyed than most players who play to the meta.

It's just hard to test how the deck works when everyone has a full field on turn one. On the bright side, every once in a while you run into someone else trying something new and you have an ACTUAL match! I actually had a match against someone who used the same zombie combo I did, but he activated first and destroyed my combo, so I improvised and made a chain that stole his combo onto my field. I lost in the end, but that was a very fun match! A good portion of my enjoyment is the deck-building aspect of the game, but matches that have a genuine back and forth like that one did are great. 11 turns in a modern Yu-Gi-Oh duel is rare, but magical.

I share my feelings with you in this. Yugioh 5ds was childish, an anime and all sure but it is the most matured and awesome yugioh series they have ever made, even with part of it turning into Blackwing promotion campaign. When i first watched it i was 13 yo, thats what got me into ygo. 5ds started with a blast: Yusei the talented man, painful/mysterious past, best friend turned betrayal/rival, mysterious encounter/fate with the crimson dragon, the struggle against self/the bad/the good/the law while being alone, the memorable villains, the high speed action scene, the incredible graphics/music, and all that in just the first part of the series. Then i tried other ygo series.Zexal, GX and even first season, no likeable main character, never managed to watch more then the first dozen of episodes. They are all whiny children compared to Yusei all talk no action, even the 15 yo me can tell. 1st season only most popular because long ass series, nostalgia, and the thing people who know a lil bit about ygo without actually playing the game only know. I never played with real cards, but on dueling network online and fake printed cards offline with my friends. The late 5ds/early Zexal format was simple yet very diverse: Scrambled junk quickdraw, vanilla/twilight ls, Darkworld, Blackwing, Gladiator Beast, Dragunity, Scrap, Karakuri, X-Saber, 6 sams, Syncho Infernity, many Heros varient, Agents, etc. So many options, match up, ways to mix match, believe me or not all decks above were viable some are just more popular than others. Then the xyz meta came, wind up/constellar/mermail dominate the top. Since then a constant loop: overpowered new archetype dominating meta nerfed in 6 months/ 1 year. The match up is meta against either meta/anti meta. New cards gets much more complicated, has tons of fX(d ruler has 4), turn into an eyesore to read and a pain to memorize to the point you cant keep up and give no fuck to whether your opp is actually following the rule. Op meta card, super complicated, very one sided non interactive duels, anime targeting preschooler so they ask their parents tobuy card. KOnami knows the game die, give no fuck about saving/prolonging their game, but just get as much money as possible out of it until nothing is left to benefit from ygo. Sad end, but whatever i had my fun time that ill never forget, so thank you very much KOnami, im grateful for ygo.

Gonna try to equip something to take down Silent Swordsman? "Fuck no, it goes bye bye" Well okay, lost that duel, ooh, okay, Six Sams, I've got a good deck that can deal with tha--and I went second and he has Shi En out, now I can't play spell or trap cards for shit, well okay, I got monsters with special summoning effects that I can use to kill Shi En-- "Lolololol, destroy this other guy instead, Shi En's safe" Okay, I'll get him next turn "lolololol, I special summon this guy from the graveyard, use his ability, yeah, put that monster back in your hand, lololol" And you're left open for him to swarm the field with more Six Samurai cards and unless you have a card you can play from your hand to save yourself, you're screwed.

I looked up an equip synchro warrior deck and decided to make one I remember when synchros used to be expensive to get especially certain tuners. Now that they came down in price I can try playing them however the meta has changed so much with all the hand trap and negate monsters shutting down their opponent's plays. I think there should be limits when it comes to card negations on the board because what i liked of yugioh in general is comebacks and when you manage to outplay your opponents strategy. Now is a days is like "I SPECIAL SUMMON MY HALF OF THE DECK, now with the half of the deck of my field now you cant use card effect, spell cards, trap cards and i can do 7 backflips, i can make a sandwich while i play, i can shoot lasers from my hands and i can swing like spiderman also like flip five coins and still win..." The list goes on it removes all the joy is like that kid issue that they play games and start making up rules to his advantage as the game goes on. I like the new cards and i can understand them but there is way to have fun but that gotta be with someone else who in the game doesnt pull a deck build like this and not let you play.

You can play around negates, you just need a deck that has multiple floaters that you can work through. Ive had tons of comebacks and turnarounds in Master Duel with my Synchro deck (Its not full power, im waiting for Dawn of Majesty). Negates mainly only affect 1 type of ability, one kind of card or require a fat cost. If you bait the initial negates, you can blitz through your opponent no sweat. I mean for God's sake, Raigeki and Dark Ruler can nuke most fields most of the time.

I'd rather enjoy playing decks with cards i like than focus on whatever the meta is, especially if i already have no intentions of playing the game at tournaments. Although, if i had to make any suggestions as to how we could maybe reshape the master rules for Yugioh, the first thing i'd suggest is a hard limit on either special summoning or on how much spell cards you can activate on your turn (except during your standby phase, damage phase or end phase for cards that need to activate during that period so that it doesn't entirely break certain decks). This in turn would provide more opportunities for each player to prepare their defenses and be able to actually engage with one another when someone's finally ready to attack (this would probably be very similar to Magic the Gathering in terms of pacing, which i don't really see as a bad thing). On top of this, it would pretty much break deck cycling techniques and force players to actually engage with their opponent more. This is usually mitigated in other games like Magic the Gathering or even Cardfight! Vanguard by having currency systems. Since Yugioh does not have a currency system, it needs some other form of casting regulation. The second suggestion might possibly be cutting down the amount of monster zones and spell/trap zones on the board, similar to speed duels and Duel Links where they have only 3 of each. This way, you could still keep the extra summon zones for additional space. Hell, we could maybe even add 1 more on both the left and right respectively so that players can still apply pressure from their extra deck.

It's amazing how relevant this still is. But to summarize: This guy spent four minutes on an *automated* dueling system to search, draw, shuffle out their whole deck, to set up 5 negates on the very first turn. Now, imagine how this would look in real life. You draw your hand, and lose the coin flip. Your hand has no hand traps (a very possible situation, and more common than one might think), and your opponent does this. So you get to sit there, watching your opponent draw, search, and shuffle their deck for about ten minutes, while you have no out to their play. And you have to keep watching, since you can't take your eyes off the board or off of your opponent, if you're worried they're going to pull something. And after fifteen whole minutes, the turn is passed over to you. So finally, you get to play! Right? Nope. You quickly find out that you bricked, and there's no way you can play through five negates. So you have to concede. The fact that people think that *this* is okay need to get their head examined. This isn't the fault of players using a bad deck or not having the means/money to buy the best and most broken cards of the format, this goes so much deeper. it's just bad card and game design, and it's so deterring to newcomers and people who just came back into the game alike. Like, this shouldn't have to be said, but apparently it has, because over 1500 people seem to think that this is healthy for the game. And to the people who say: "Duuuuuh just play better decks and cards lol u just suck", let me ask this: Are you fine with the game being reduced to "Play X and Y or else you will keep losing and you suck lol." "Just win the coin flip lol." Well, are you? Because if you are, you are the exact reason why people are quitting and possibly even growing to hate the game. Congratulations, hope you're proud of yourself. Edit: Some extra comments. Like, are people fine with decks being reduced to nothing more but generic negation extra deck monsters and how quickly you can spam the board with them? And why are you even playing Yu-Gi-Oh! if you're just going to sit there and play with yourself to set up an entire board of monsters that pretty much don't let your opponent play the game? Both of these points are applicable to both offline, and online. While Master Duel may have solved the lack of accessibility to newcomers, they'll be in for a very rough and perhaps even an awful time if they keep playing against decks that set up nothing but negates while the newcomer probably just wanted to play a deck they like from days of old or aestethic wise. Also could apply to returning players after years of absence. This is not okay. The game is fundamentally broken at its core. Where if your deck can't play certain cards, it's a bad deck. If you can't afford certain cards, you're a bad player. If you can't play through five negates, you're a terrible duelist. These issues have persisted for a very long time. And Konami has done absolutely nothing to address any of these gnawing issues. There needs to be an overhaul. A limit on the amount of special summons. And a hard limit on how much negates you can set up. I, for one, like the diversity in what all the different decks have to offer. Yet we'll never find out, because they either can't spam the generic extra deck big attack omniversal negate monsters, or they set up on the second turn. And if a deck gets disregarded because of the latter, then we especially know it's gone too far. And there's your extra comments. I believe I summed this up quite nicely. Peace.

The new show VRains is kinda like this, minus the negates. They play like 7-10 cards in a turn. It has made the show boring with shitty pacing.
