That's the thing. I'm worried they are living in denial. They know that China has overtaken them in other aspects but they try to cling on military superiority. I'm worried that they believe they can get away with a nuclear conflict relatively unhurt. If they believe they can over power the Chinese, they might just say, it's worth the gamble. Problem is, China ALSO have many things hidden. They are very smart, do you think they are not capable to building amazing weapons of their own? US should just try to manage this transition and decline instead of clinging on to power. If America really focuses on changing itself and developing, it can still compete with China. I don't think China wants America to crumble either. But now, it seems we might be headed for conflict.

From the mid 1960's the USA outsourced their production to low cost countries, for lower prices and higher profits. The working class lost their jobs, and those who worked were faced with lower incomes. The trade balance detriorated, and Nixon had to take action in 1971. Countries that earned a lot by producing and exporting to the USA saw their assets ruined by 70%. A set back. There are no low cost countries any more. The manufactoring countries have hagher standards of living, don't copy paste but design and develop by them selves. The US customers can't buy imported goods anymore. Financial institutions are abundantly rich, normal people suffer more and more. China was a slave nation, but is now setting the paths. The USA has to obey, because they are poor. The rich want to capture (Russia and) China, but will fail, because their industry is neglected. They can't produce enough weapons to fight the manufacturing countries. They are knights without horses or crossbows.

It’s a very interesting theory. The American animosity is surely more broadly based than a super highway of finance. It is is also based on the fact that PRC is such a manufacturing powerhouse; that Le Sud Global looks to PRC to assist in its development; and the fear that PRC will simply become a truly formidable military opponent. And will the Americans be able to get what they want by triggering a nuclear war? Don’t think so. Russia and PRC are now joined at the hip. Unleashing a war against one will bring in the other. USA is not strong enough for this. NATO will always be too fragmented to challenge the Eurasian colossus that is PRC and Russia.

I think that Varoufakis is right about a lot of this, but he is also making a few errors. First, I don't think the US would resort to nuclear war so easily - they realize that would be suicide and would defeat the whole point. I can see the world stumbling there by accident, however, as the US gets more hostile and paranoid about China. Second, in another video, Varoufakis explained this idea and defended it by arguing that the US only started going after China in 2014, rather than much earlier, because it only began to realize this threat then. However, that is not actually accurate. Before the George W. Bush administration took office in 2001, Condoleeza Rice wrote a piece in Foreign Affairs that indicated the Bush people saw China as a competitor and they planned to cut it down to size. However, 9-11 happened and it completely changed the focus of the US to all-terrorism, all the time. The result was the US lost its focus on China and became locked into various pointless wars. It even worked with China which presented itself as similarly under threat from Islamic fundamentalism. Obama was not inherently anti-Chinese and moved to oppose its rise using economic levers, like the TPP, which Trump scrapped. So, 9-11 bought China all the time it needed to grow beyond American control. Nonetheless, Varoufakis is right about the US understanding its vulnerability to the loss of dollar hegemony. Trump's threat about imposing sanctions on countries that try to stop using the dollar indicates that even he - and he is an idiot - understands this.

But if the Chinese government makes mistakes there is no corrective mechanisme and the consequences are devestating ... examples: the Covid policy killed the Chinese economy, the house building policy killed the real estate market, the antitrust policy killed finance markets, the former one-child-policy threats the future of the Chinese people ...
