Recently I've started trying to stop carrying an ultralight with me because I'm so confident with it that it hinders my learning of newer techniques... But UL has gotten me into creek wading and I've never enjoyed fishing that much. Thanks Ethan!

Great multispecies day with a ton of action. I've been doing exactly that lately; bringing a UL in case the bass bite is null. And if you catch a bass on the UL, that's just bonus! Great time out there Ethan!

I always carry two ultra light rods. I have one set up with mono for top water and jigs and one set up with braid for small crank baits. I recently caught a 4 1/2 lb bass on a Strike King Bitsy Minnow and I was glad to have the braided line, it gives me more confidence that I will land a fish without worry of my line breaking 🎣🐟😊! I usually always have an ultralight or two in my boat. I use 1" gulp minnows and honey worms mainly. Like you, i often start chasing the smaller fish when the bass fishing isn't going as planned. A group of bedding panfish is a recipe for loads of fun.

I always carry 3 light action rods and just one baitcaster. The dark crappie are the males. They get really black like that around the spawn.

Love your vids. Let me help you catch those big bass. Put on a Yamamoto thin 5” senko, any dark color. That color catches all bass. Hook it wacko with no weight. Cast it out let it sink and lift and repeat. Be slow and patient. Or site fish the bigger ones. If you only just want to fish the monsters use the the 5” fatter sized ones.

Thanks to your videos, I just picked up that Dobyns Sierra ultra light rod so I can have a dedicated panfish setup. I have a couple of Dobyns Fury rods for bass fishing and they are great. Need something so I can throw those donkey tail juniors.

Ultralight seems to give a little bit more scope as to what you might catch. There's a time for big fish specific 'restrictive' techniques but isn't it nice to get back to a fun 'simple' approach to catch a bit of every thing

Like once the jig hits the water, how far down it goes before you jig it or slow retrieve or twitch it. Stuff like that. I always wonder if I'm retrieving way too fast.

Ethan you are truly an ultralight multi species wizard! I want to pick up some donkey tail and donkey tail jr's. What do you think would be the one best all around color to start with? I will be picking up other colors as well later down the road when the jigs come back in stock. I fish mostly weedy lakes if that helps

I love it and appreciate how lightweight it is. Don't think you need to spend that kind of $ on a spinning reel unless you just want to go fancy from time to time haha. To be fair, if you fish a ton, the higher end spinning reels will last you a lot longer than budget gear. Pros and cons.

I have been using that Keitech Easy Shaker a lot lately. Very soft and tears up easily but it is a nice design. I think I prefer the Kut Tail though. Just experimenting!
