Shaolin or not, it's probably not a good idea to mess with someone who spends 10 hours, or more, a day training to fight.

Same with Koreans they train very hard. My teachers were Korean very strong people and they had to change their training methods for us Americans. Also Japanese teachers carried a bamboo rod they would strike you to get your attention. You couldn't do that with American students.

The main Shaolin monastery is located in China. It costs thousands of dollars to attend. By Chinese law, martial arts cannot be taught at the monastery. It must be taught at a school on separate property. Only the best, most dedicated students are accepted. It is both a religion and a form of combat. If I remember correctly, the course takes 6 or 7 years. If you are good enough, you can enroll for a second time.

Not necessarily. Most traditional martial arts are more like an art or sports. or sports art. There's a big difference between various martial arts schools. Karate is often very mild. Tae Kwon Do is often students beating each other up. My karate dojo never had "the talk" w/ my parents. My son's tae kwon do instructor always gives "the talk" with parents: "He WILL come home with bruises, or bloody nose, or even a black eye. It's inevitable. He might want to quit. and maybe come back. But in the end he WILL be stronger. and he'll heal." If your dojo is an art/sports dojo, you'll have pretty skills. This includes shaolin / kungfu , all of it. But if your dojo is like a bootcamp, you'll come out formidable. Most sports fights are forbidden from using/life death techniques. You can't kill or maim your opponent. This leaves out some extremely dangerous moves from all kinds of legitimate martial arts like aikido, whatever they used to teach in kendo but have lost (grappling, joint manipulation/dislocation etc), kenpo, kung fu etc. So some dojos still teach dangerous techniques. Most commercialized fighting techniques do not. So for a shaolin master to defeat someone that learned deadly techniques (US military, Chinese military, Russian military etc.) really depends on- did they learn pretty martial arts? or true martial arts? They're three different competitions- sports/art, commercial fighting, life/death fighting. and different schools teach different competition styles.
