What should India do to keep or even grow its position as a global pharma leader? Any ideas?

Maintain or expand funding/subsidies for cheap education for everyone. Expand funding for research and PhD students, will assist in keeping a competitive edge when it comes to research and intellectual property. Invest in further improving access to healthcare for everyone; will increase quality-of-life but also ensure everyone receives the medicine they need, which in turn creates a bigger market for local and foreign pharmaceutical companies, making India even more attractive than it already is. Are a few things that come to my feeble mind..

Invest more in infrastructure and promoting more manufacturing units.
India should stop APIs from China and build capabilities within India.

Indian companies make medicine that are affordable to all people not just rich people ( like some western companies)
@chandankumar10360 Жыл бұрын
There is no doubt that western health exploit a lot. I mean lot. However Indian Healthcare as well as medicine is cheap to THEM based on their expenditure and dollar conversion. BUT for median Indian health care cost relative to its income is still very large. It's not that affordable for a common Indian. May be I can or you can easily afford simple test of 2000rs and medicine of 1000rs with doc fees of 500-800 rs. This sum of around 3000to 4000 for most ppl whose salary are way below 30k is very significant amount. Most unorganised sector population can't even afford this much. We all know our govt hospital infrastructure. Private hospitals are literally exploiting money out of their patient

@@chandankumar10360our economy is still at starting stage. Offcourse people can't spend
@chandankumar10360 Жыл бұрын
@@vikasreddy3603 it has less to do with stage of economy. Infact as with growth quality increases but also the cost. It has to do more with poor admin and in efficiency. The amount of money spent is not equally manifested in real terms. Social security is our biggest issue. We do need little bit of "revdi" to provide safety net. However issue is of funds which can be easily be procured if our economy becomes more organised and our tax Bas increases. But we instead increase tax on the already tax payers. Also govt needs to "showcase and prove" yes prove on every stage that there spending is in good terms. That's how transaction works. But opposition keeps on detailing reforms and party in power thinks they the super power. It's should be ctz vs govt. not ctzn(party A) vs ctzn(party b).

Here in India, Medical Store oners are required to take a Course on Medicine. So when we are sick, Unless its seriuis we head to Medical Stores and ask the Store owner for Mends and he will suggest Medicine. Saves time and money of Check-ups and Hospitalization.

You didn’t explain the difference between process patent and product patent. It’s not counterfeit products but it was about creating chemistries in a non patented process, and TRIPS wanted to close this legal loophole.

'generics' producers don't need to take risks and pay for R&D. Just duplicate what others have achieved and proven successes, then come in with cheap labor and mass production. Great strategy. It will also mean that 'generics' will breed a culture of not being the innovator because it pays better to be follower.

It is more complicated than that. Patent for the Original invention of Insulin was given to the world for free. Why insulin is so costly in the US? The US pharma industry along with its medical feternity and the FDA have joined hands to loot the American public. That is why no cheaper insulin variety, whose patent has expired is available in the US. Go figure.
