I felt the exact same way about Palworld, all my friends were playing it and they convinced me to start playing, it' s pretty fun. There are obviously issues with it but if you like survival games like Valheim then you will probably like it. My biggest issue with it is honestly the MMOesque grind for levels to progress.

Palworld is a survival game so it really comes down to if you like games like The forest, Ark or something around there. Though it is to be said, I’ve never been a huge Ark fan so even if you don’t like one of em that much, it wouldn’t really matter terms of gameplay since it still feels different Personally I love the game. I love how you have the ‘Catch Pokémon’ blended with a survival game where you have to get materials, level up to get more advanced stuff and so forth. It also really encourages you to explore the world and enslave many different pals which makes the gameplay better than I personally expected. I haven’t played it solo (only played with friends) and haven’t gotten far but it can be a bit addictive to play in the long run. I’d recommend to try, otherwise if you ain’t much for it just ask for that refund. (Still ain’t gonna be Isaac frfrongong)

From what I've listened to, antibirth soundtrack actually *might* have a leitmotif! I've noticed it when listening to Machine in the Walls and Journey from a Jar to the Sky. It's not exactly 1-for-1 but harpsichord(?) loop in Mausoleum matches up to the main piano in Planetarium pattern-wise. They might be too different to count as leitmotifs but they definitely have a strong vibe connection, if that makes any sense. There might also be some stuff with Innocence Glitched in other parts of the soundtrack but idk for sure.

Palworld is such a weird game, like, total outlier. I can agree it doesnt look like much on the surface, but there is a genuinely fun game in there (I have 100 hours). It EA so there isnt like TONS of "content", but the gameplay loop is very enjoyable. Its not pokemon at all gameplay wise, its basically ARK (when it was good) with cute creatures. A lot of my personal enjoyment has come from interacting with pals and base building/management along with the combat. Some of that comes from getting a base automated, and picking out pals you like (or hate) and having (or forcing) them work for you. There are raids which work really well for the early game, but the balance is off a bit later (30-50 lvl) where enemy pals or humans come and try and break your stuff (and steal your pals? this never happened to me but you are supposedly able to buy back stolen pals). The other half is that the game draws a lot from BOTW as far as its core fighting mechanics go, you have a slide (that gives you a ton of momentum downhill) that can be used into a glider of different tiers (or pals that work as gliders) to travel very quickly, you can grappling hook into the glider as well to go very fast, just a bunch of very fun skill based movement. You start out with a stick and a bow, and work your way up catching pals (and pal bosses/alphas) and levelling up to unlock better weapons/guns (melee falls off late game), and different pal special abilities like using them as a mount/glider, getting a grenade launcher while mounted, a flamethrower pal, the list goes on. The combat is pretty simple, but has a decent amount of depth, you have a dodge roll with s, sprint/glider to avoid attacks. and you basically dark souls your way around a bunch of different magic attacks from pals, meanwhile you fight back either mounted, controlling your pals attacks (and still being able to shoot your gun) directly, or let them do their own thing. Some pals are more combat focused, like having special unique attacks, adding elemental damage to your attacks, special weapons or utility like a faster glider (you have normal craftable equip able ones), healing, or rideable flying mounts. ALL of the pals have unique animations for basically everything they do, petting, eating, working, relaxing, sleeping, it adds a ton of character to them. There are a bunch of different types of work "suitabilities" that each pal can have, heating, cooling, handiwork (crafting), woodcutting, mining, etc. so you are encouraged to catch a variety to do all the things you want in your bases, all of the pals have work speeds and passive passive traits that make them better or worse individually at working, fighting, or making them faster, etc. Things like slacker, artisan, speedy. so each pal is almost like a diablo drop lol, which combined with breeding lets you autism out amazing pals if you are into that sort of stuff. There are only 5 human bosses as of now, but for nearly every pal (there are 100 something) there is a boss/alpha version that you can fight and catch (also shinys, no pallet swaps for that but they are bigger and have a unique trait, and have high level attacks like "solar beam" at level one). And they are basically stronger versions of the normal pal. Some of the map is heat/cold gated, so you need to level/do dungeons/catch pals to keep you warm/cold for access to higher level areas like a volcano or ice mountain (the map is MASSIVE), and nature "preserves" that you can "poach" from with rare pals. catch pals, level, get better gear, catch stronger pals, beat bosses, do dungeons, base management. Thats the basic gameplay loop, and IMO it is definitely more of a singleplayer game, as multiplayer really only benefits from fighting bosses together, otherwise you would just be fighting over catching pals. I think it is extremely strong for a out of the blue EA indie, but it definitely not easy to tell without trying it yourself. It also has really great modding potential and no DRM so there is that. (I have heard multiple modders who were let down with starfield are now working on mods for palworld instead) TLDR: Ark with cute creatures with lots of personality, crossed with BOTW, and a little bit of monster hunter. Looks crusty, is fun. if it doesnt grab you after an hour it probably wont. Best 30 bucks I have spent on steam in quite a while.

I don't usually feel like this for all games, especially for ones that look like cheap copies of popular games, but Palworld is actually an incredible game. Even as an early access game it already has so much content, and it's all really compelling. Even though most people would call it Pokemon with guns, in reality it's closer to Ark combined with Pokemon and with the combat system of Dark Souls. It very much isn't a game for everyone, much less for those who don't like survival games. But it's still such an awesome game, not only because of the game itself but also because the sheer success it got only weeks after releasing
