The problem for Journey on the Escape album is it's loaded with songs that would have been chart-toppers if they weren't competing with the rest of the chart-toppers on that same album. Just an extraordinary album, top to bottom. The range on it is incredible. I read a snippet from Jonathan Cain once that essentially said that if a band is good, it can go anywhere, and the limiting factor is the singer. Perry could sing anything, so they went everywhere. Critics didn't get it. But the rest of us did.

We camped 36 hours before the show, and patiently waited through Aldo Nova, Triumph, and Blue Oyster Cult (AND the baddest food fight I've ever witnessed), to finally see Journey, and oh was it worth it! The place erupted as soon as Stone In Love began, as the force of the general admission crowd moved me 30 yards toward the stage with BOTH feet off the ground! My face was pressed against the back of some dude for what seemed like an eternity, but when the dust settled we were right there near the front, with probably 70,000 others rocking full force. Strangely, Don't Stop Believin' was not the album's go to at that time as Stone In Love and Who's Cryin' Now got the most attention... and both still do with me to this day... Epic memories... I was lucky enough to see Journey perform live at the Great Western Forum in Los Angeles in 1981 and 1983, and Steve Perry's voice is one of the most incredible sounds I've ever heard in my entire life! For me, he's the greatest ever even to this day, and Journey certainly one of the greatest bands in history, regardless of genre. Thanks for the video.

Those and a few others on Infinity, Evolution and Departure were duets with Greg Rollie, the original singer. Totally different singers, but they really complimented each other. Rollie has done some recent performances of old Journey classics that are really good .... find on KZbin (without Perry, but a couple are with the other Journey Steve singer from the 90s).

Best male Rock Singer ever. I've ben a fan since '78. When the song "Lights" aired, it really hit home for us (my siblings and I). Because we lived on the east side of the City, facing the Bay. When we got up for school, right outside our widows facing east, we'd actually see the street lights shut off and we'd see the golden reflection of the Sun, reflecting on the water in the mornings. Candlestick Park was just south of our bay window views. Anyway, since that was a part of each day, when "Lights" aired, it really hit home. My 1st Journey concert was during the "Escape" tour, summer of '82; I was 14. It was held at Oakland Coliseum/Stadium where the Raiders resided. I've seen close to about a hundred concerts since then and to this day, that show was one of the very best ever, like in the top 3. Thanks, for posting a great video with great interviews. -Steve G., Engineer, S.F., CA., USA

This has ALWAYS been to me the Journey song that was neglected it's true exposure! It is such a great song of emotional trauma and reaching out to get the attention of friends/family that I almost cry every time I hear it.I would of coarse listen to the whole album(Escape) but when it got to 'Mother -Father' I would turn it up even louder and replay it a few times while singing along.
