I don’t think you’re wrong in this case but it’s actually not uncommon for a snake to swallow a meal while it’s still alive. Constricting takes a lot of energy and it’s not always necessary if the prey is small enough to simply be overpowered. In those instances, the prey can be saved even after it has been swallowed if you get to it in time. But as I said, I don’t think that is the case in this instance. Cat looked pretty dead

@@realblackterry It is actually extremely uncommon, and depends on the type of snake the the prey. Swallowing most prey live is poses a danger to the snake. Studies have shown many species of snake waiting for their prey's heart to stop completely before eating them. The exceptions are when the prey are borderline harmless and can't injure the snake in any way ie Garter snakes eat worms, snails, frogs, and tiny rodents alive. This cat was 100% dead, it looks like it was already being digested. Not to mention that you can see the marks where the snake was applying pressure, with one obviously around the neck.

Just because something is situational, i.e a constrictor swallowing extremely harmless prey without killing it first, doesn’t mean it is uncommon. Not only is it NOT UNCOMMON, it also isn’t specific to just snakes. Other reptiles, like monitors, Komodo dragons, and crocodilians. Also some amphibians do it too like wide mouth frogs, I’ve even seen seagulls swallow whole prey without killing it. This is actually extremely common in the animal kingdom. As I said in my original comment, if the prey is small enough and defenseless enough then there is no need to waste energy constricting it first. Don’t try to correct me unless you know what you are talking about.
