Kind of agree in terms of engineering with the Twincharger and the AWD, but as a Lancia fan, i admit the car was the most UGLY thing ever rallying, awful x1000 million, and it almost didn't look as the stradale S4, which was quite beautiful. honesty the regulations back then were Hillarious, there was nothing from the original omologation shape.

This particularJolly Club Totip Delta S4 was always my favourite, it was 2nd in the 1986 Rally Sanremo. It’s so good to see the car preserved and more importantly used. It’s still in its tarmac spec because it only raced once in San Remo which is a Tarmac Rally and he obviously wants it to remain as it was when raced!

Lancia Delta S4 was as quick as an F1 car of its time, 1985 they did a rally stage on a racetrack (Brand's Hatch) F1 raced on the same year and the Delta S4 got a time equal to mid field F1 cars, absolutely insane.
@DropkickNation3 жыл бұрын
And all of that with a car not designed to be fast in the same way F1 cars were.
@theant98212 жыл бұрын
Evidence of this? Sounds quite fanciful to me, 1986 was the most powerful year for the turbo era F1 cars and 85 was 2nd most powerful year, they were far more powerful, far more lightweight and far more downforce. (1987 was when 4 bar the boost limit was introduced, 1988 it was changed to 2.5 bar)
@posniknelb6114 Жыл бұрын
Never happened I'm afraid, just a myth. No way it could've beat an 80s F1 car in 85 or 86. Even the slowest cars weighed less than 600kg with 700 to 800bhp and tons of downforce. The S4 is incredible in its own right, it might've kept up with an F1 car to 60 mph because of 4 wheel traction, but that's were it would end.
@GiampietroDiSanto2 ай бұрын
@@theant9821It is TRUE that a Lancia S4 was tested on a F1 circuit. It was in Estoril, Portugal (not Brand's Hatch). The test took place in March 1986. Toivonen went there to test the ultimate version for the season with the following specs: ~560 HP, 450 Nm of torque, 950 kgs of weight, 2.2 turbocharge bars (its maximum). Now this is all true and registered. But since it was a private test there's no officially recognized lap time. The rumours started spreading many years later when a Lancia mechanic who was present at the testing said that "Henri was so fast that he would have ended up in the F1 top ten in the last GP there". For the records, the 1985 Portuguese F1 GP was wet, in the rain. So it's very possible in theory that he could be in the top ten coz F1 had raced in the wet while he did the test in the dry. Anyway the story was modified so wildly throughout the years that the truth was buried under myths and legends.

There's a very good reason why nobody has mentioned Mr. Blomqvist & that is because he was never a Lancia works driver & had absolutely nothing to do with the S4. The only time he ever competed in a Lancia was a privately entered Stratos in the '78 Swedish. He was a Saab stalwart & latterly an Audi development driver who kept Mikkola et al honest, especially in snow. He also drove Ford, Peugeot, Mitsubishi, Skoda & Nissan. What he did not do was drive an S4.

IF (as he says) he loves GpB, how come he doesn't know the names of the legends that drove them? I'd love to own a GpB car, but (forgetting the money for a moment), my driving could never do it justice. The car would need to go to a decent rally driver with the skills to use the car properly. To see this actual car driven in a hillclimb by Peruggini in 2009, on home territory, followed by the present footage just made me weep. The car just NEEDS to come home. Just my own twopence worth!

Yes, I find these videos enjoyable but they tend to serve the egos of the owners rather than let us enjoy watching the cars.

true, I hate this gay ass hipster view, I need MORE ABOUT THE CARS less about the keeper

You can find details about the car anywhere in google but this is the only place that you can find somethink about his collection and himself.

Good god, what I'd give to be in a fraction of this....Chronic pain disibility sucks....Always wanted to be a mechanic and drive these things but 5 years ago, that all went down the drain.....So happy that you were able to share this experience though. Amazing stuff.

7:06 Henri Toivonen.. Has all the car's history but doesn't know the name of the driver who died in one of the sister cars.

nice gravel slicks lol

SuperLitherland not uncommon on some rallycross circuits, the problem is that expensive wheel blades are vulnerable on gravel

Just imagining John's mile seeing this hitting one million views. I had the privilege to know John and visited his garage many times. The 599 in my pic is his. RIP John

I read somewhere that this car could have qualified for the 1986 F1 Portuguese GP in the top 10 (driven by Toivonen). That's how fast it was. Thinking that some crazy dude was driving it on DIRT scares the hell out of me! But that were the '80s.... surely the craziest (and perhaps the best) decade in motor racing history.
@nailil5722 Жыл бұрын
yes they tested the car on the Portuguese GP track just before the F1 weekend and with the time they did the Lancia would've qualified for the sixth spot. They were driving an F1 level car on gravel, absolute madness.

Please have a video of this guy walking us around his garage. Never have I seen a private collection of cars that is so perfect and I would want to own more than the one he has.
