Check out the 1988/89 Hungarian league. They brought in a ridiculous shoot-out system for draws which meant the team ultimately finishing 4th would have won under any other sensible system (e.g. 3/1, 2/1 for win/draw).

I encourage you all to read about Truro City and follow them as they aim for promotion. They sold their ground to a supermarket so that they could invest as co-tenants in a new 10'000 seat stadium with cornish pirates rugby team. The stadium was then unexpectedly shelved by the council in 2018 (seriously, Cornwall Council SUCK). Since then, Truro have had to ground share with Plymouth Parkway (55 miles away, Taunton Town (125 miles away) and Gloucester City 196 miles away, 3hrs20mins drive!) Finally this year they are back after playing at home after 7 seasons away. Because of Truros location in Cornwall and a lot of the teams in or around London, Truro also has to do an insane amount of travelling compared to the rest of the league which is tough on the teams away following. Go on The Tinners!

A bit more context on this season. My local team Hemel Hempstead were absolutely flying at the start of the season. Winning 6 and drawing 2 in the first 8 games they were 3 points clear at the top of the table. Then.. problems. Hemel then won just 1 of their next 16 games! This plummetted them down the league, too only a few points of the relegation zone. A change of management and new players stabilsed things with Hemel getting 10 points in 6 games to move away from the relegation zone and safely into mid-table. Although, bitter local rivals St Albans are in the relegation zone so that's a plus.

i've been managing truro to the prem in fm, so glad to see they're doing so well in national south, because if you look at their progression graphs in fm you'll notice that they've been steadily climbing englands ladder of leagues from the lowest, highly recommend doing a vid on it ZEALANDS! They're literally only in fm 24 because they got promoted the season prior! People call it the american dream, they're living the england dream rn

You would love Paulista state league divisions too then. A1 through A4 standard league plus the u23 only Segunda divisão for the chaos. Just last week one former Copa do Brasil winner (2004 I think) Paulista played against a former libertadores second place (2004ish?} são Caetano in the 4th goddamn division of Paulista football. Both teams played a paulista a1 final in the 2000s too.

So many amazing stories in this league just beyond the league table for those who are in the know with English non-league. Everyone already knows about Dorking, most people know about Maidstone’s insane cup run, but not as many people know about Neil Warnock being the director of football at Torquay or Truro having to play about 20 games in 40 days last season at a ground 3 hours away from theirs because their pitch was entirely unplayable. Please keep up with English non league if you’re able to, it’s where football is at its most interesting

2nd Bundesliga is even Crazier. 9 Points between first and 10th and its a professional league, other than the english 6th Division. The team that is at first place has the second highest chance of losing, only behind last place (teams that were first at the start of a matchday have lost more than teams at any other position except last place). Fun Fact: there are more teams that have won the Bundesliga that are now in 2. Bundesliga than there are Bundesliga winners in Bundesliga.

As a matter of fact, the 2nd Bundesliga is usually so unpredictable to the point that an ex-Bundesliga team can be still possibly relegated to the 3rd tier (or even suffering back-to-back relegations to the 4th from the 2nd).
