Gary Feltus when I started watching their channel Al had a full time job as did Gina, As their channel grew he was able to quit his job and do the utube channel full time. And now Gina has quit her job as well. Don’t get me wrong, it’s lots of work and time making these videos, but as their channel grows it makes them more money and we are able to watch their homestead grow. It’s one of my favorite channels and he’s thankful for us all! ❤️💕 as we are with them sharing all their knowledge with us.

Olivia amazes me more and more with her willingness to help on the homestead. This video showed her cleaning out the birthing stall. I know that was pretty nasty but she hung in there and did the work. She will be a good farmer in her own right one day.

Hi Lumnahs. I’ve been watching for over a year and watch every new post with joy. I’m 70 and have a small veg plot. Every year I rotate crops and try new things. I’m using Agralan netting for first time this year after previous years cabbages broccoli and cauliflowers were all destroyed by caterpillars. Spuds are doing well this year. Carrots parsnips and beetroot growing well but will have to wait to see how good crop is. I had a new greenhouse this year, it’s only 6foot by 8 foot but plenty big enough to start seedlings

Al, You & your followers should check out Deep South Homestead video today. They have the screening on their high tower G/H & fabric floor. These 2 people can teach you what is right for them in the deep south. Your needs will be different as your G/H sits on the land differently. They have a shade cloth on theirs from the start. The heat will become a problem for you. Lots to learn on your part!

Those metal tubing pieces can be cut up and used to make handles for things, like cabinets or bins or drawers, etc. They would look cool with wooden end pieces on a refurbished chest of drawers or nightstands, etc. Or a cool windchime to hang on one of your buildings or even somewhere on the greenhouse since they are technically from the " bones" of the greenhouse!! Just some thoughts, since I too love to repurpose leftover parts and things!! I can usually think of something that is outside of the box. Good luck with your plantings and God Bless!

I've been watching both you and Living Traditions Homestead. Borrowing ideas from both your videos. Al your construction projects are amazing to watch. Just starting my "mini" (100' X 100') homestead. Today put down garden ground cloth...phew! just missed the wind! Tomorrow the drip irrigation system. Unlike New Hampshire (where I grew up) and Missouri, here in Western Colorado don't get much rain, so have to irrigate. This Summer, plans are for establishing the gardens (2) 30 X 60. This Fall a hoophouse (16 X 32), starting all the plants (400 plus) in the house and transporting out onto the deck each day and back inside at night is a nightmare. I'm putting a 800 gallon plastic tank and painting it flat black to see how it will work as a heat sink in the hoophouse for early Spring seedlings. I'll be able to draw water out of the tank to start the seedlings, until the irrigation water starts April 1st each growing season. Thinking about animals and manure for fertilizing...I hesitant on goats, but have been thinking of rabbits for their manure. I have the area for goats, but it's all dry, no grazing for them, so would have to constantly be buying hay. By the way, I'm a single retired woman in her 60's, so don't let age stop you.

Gina: not sure if you can or want to use this dressing mix but when I make mom's garden salad we use Miracle Whip mixed with Kraft Zesty Italian Dressing with a tad bit of sugar. We also use small shell pasta, green onions, peas, cucumber, diced tomato, diced bell pepper, diced celery, pineapple tidbits and a can of tuna (drained). A huge bowl only lasts about 2 days here (we eat it as a main meal and snack on it when ever we want - we have some in the fridge all summer long as all veggies come from our garden except for the celery till ours is large enough to start harvesting).

I'm in SE Qld Australia and we are having a cold snap....5am and its 15.5C ( 60F) and we've had to get out the blankets and house sox to keep us warm. My son loves the heat and he is miserable with this chill. While I don't like the real cold (I know you guys would say this is not at all cold) I mean below 10C (50F), after the last few summers of 30-35 C (86-95F) constant temps day and night, this chill is a bit nice.

The greenhouse is looking good. You must be so pleased it’s pretty much ready for planting. Will you be finishing off the loose plastic at the bottom of each end? I’m assuming so, as that would let out a lot of heat in winter. 🙂 The baby goats are just so adorable especially the little girl. She’s a bundle of energy. ☺️🙂

Back in the day, we'd make tree stands, for deer hunting, by cutting a 4" wide by 4" deep "V" in either end of a short length 2" x 12" pine board. We'd stick these in the fork of a tree and a couple of stomps of wedge them so tight you'd have to cut them out with a saw.
@beckywatt50484 жыл бұрын
We did that back in the day before hunting out of trees was legal , used to leave the board at the base of the tree , easy to conceal.
