Looks like it was a fun day. I love the idea of a hot cup of coffee on the trail and playing radio. I'm just getting into radio here in the US. Taking my exam next week! So I hope to do something similar soon.

Andy, I saw my first coffee bag when I was a kid here in the UK in the late 60s/early 70s. They were made by Lyons and I have always wondered why they never took off as they were lovely 😊

I was going to say, I was using coffee bags in the late '80s and '90s. I don't know if they went away as I haven't looked for them for years.
@lyfandeth2 жыл бұрын
I think they went away because they cost way more than a cup of coffee, and their combinations of ingredients didn't taste like a real cup of joe.
@SB-mi2ii2 жыл бұрын
@@lyfandeth Well they were pure ground coffee, the good stuff. I guess back then they may have been ahead of their time as most people were drinking Maxwell House and Nescafe instant coffee. Perhaps the real thing didn't suit the average palate. 😂☕

Hi Andy, It's great to see another video of yours. However I have 2 questions for you. 1. What camera are you using for this video. The quality is just SUPERB. I don't know if you've made a video about that battery pack that you regularly use in your radio transmitting videos, but if you have, I can't find it. So, 2. What is the makeup of it please, as I would like to try 1. Many Thanks, Kind Regards, Ray. Sittingbourne, Kent.

Use the contour on the 891 makes a big difference to clarity, the built in speaker is not great. I listen with headphones mostly but contour really makes the difference speakers or headphones. The 891 has such good audio really with headphones, much better than IC-7300, in my opinion, to my ears and a much lower noise floor, the background noise on the 7300 makes for harsh listening, the 891 sounds so quiet and is very easy to listen to for hours on end.

I made a magloop for about £15, my first contact on it was with an albrecht 10, 11 and 12 metre band hand held doing a couple of watts. 5/9 into Germany with the loop 2 feet off the ground.... love loops

I may be wrong, but isn't QRP considered max. 5W? Anyways, when using less than 5W, I never say QRP because I don't see the advantage for making a contact. I assume, if the other station hears me, it will answer me, with or without saying QRP. Or do you see that different?

@@aj2isotadxing OK, this could work if the other station understands "QRP". But otherwise he/she doesn't know about. To me it's more important to say "portable", which in some countries is mandatory.

As far north as you are at, as your daytime will become shortened along with low sun angle. Only if you're in full sunlight, as aim solar panel at directly toward the sunshine. As your energy production will be very surprise good. Mostly it so cold, that will help solar panel to stay cool for even BOOSTED power production. The Bottom Line: This cold and sunny day is so great for solar panel, but is not so much of help for cold Andy HA-HA.

Everything's nice but the alexloop . I mean the price for a variable cap and a lenght of coax is just crazy and nonsense since someone who can use a soldering iron can build one for 1/10 of the price .

There's nothing stopping you building one, that would be a fun learning experience. I'm all for other HAMS making a business out of doing what they love and I continue to Support products from other hams...some people prefer to buy antennas that are tested proeperly as not everyone has all the time in the world for their hobby. It's difficult running any business and the price is ofen driven up by taxes most of the time and not greed of the maker.
