I still shed tears on processing day. It never gets easier for me. It's such a difficult emotion to explain to others that have never had to do it. You gave the pigs the best life possible. They were raised happy, healthy & were loved.

Lol my grandpa named his bull and Milker cheryll and chuck after my older brother and sister they were so upset when it came to processing time aka butchering time and seeing as they always picked on me cause I was 1 yr younger then them I would nicely say and thank you for letting us eat cheryll and chuck as a tease every time we ate beef! Grandma after that made sure no kids name were used for food!

I totally agree with you. People have this mentality that meat just plops down in the grocery store freezer, but they forget that there is a huge process before it gets there. If people took the same steps to raise 1 farm animal from weeks old to processing time, they would value food more.

In Idaho it’s illegal to leave any edible meat behind. It carries a pretty hefty fine. The unethical hunters are the ones that do this and they should have their hunting privileges taking away. They are the ones that give other hunters a bad name. My motto is if you don’t like to eat wild game then don’t hunt. It’s part of it.

Wow Daniel, that's pulling at the heart strings there. I have seen the process but never in the light you just explained and showed us. It's been years that I have done something like that, wild hogs that is. Love those pork chops and sausage too. Ham is a favorite. But I never really saw the looks in their eyes like that. I believe that I would go to the another butcher or maybe the one Dutch uses. Arrive, unload, weigh, leave packing instructions and go home and wait for a phone call. Waiting hours between animal killings, especially when you had to do that in the trailer with the other live animals, just doesn't seem as humane as it probably needs to be. I'll bet Mrs Arms was not too thrilled with the process. Great honest content Daniel, we could tell you weren't too thrilled either. Much respect to you for the honest and sincere content!!

@@genesnyder2985, I agree. I used to trap for fur. Hunted, but only small game like rabbits and squirrels to eat, but that's different than raising the animals in your own yard and naming them. I'll let someone else do that now, but you're correct.

I don't think that he would have used that processor if he had the choice. In all of his videos up to now, hes used the same processor which was a weigh, drop off, and leave system. I watch a lot of different homesteading channels, and they all said that because of the virus, many farmers are struggling to get processing appointments throughout the country. M

I know how I felt watching my pigs go back in high school. It does tug at your heartstrings. Animals that you raise for your own consumption really is the best meat you'll ever have in your life. You control the quality of meat that you will put in your freezer. To say y'all did an outstanding job taking care of 3 fine looking pigs would definitely be an understatement. I hope y'all will consider getting more pigs in the future.

Ok, ok, I admit it. There were lots of tears involved. They were beautifully raised pigs and yes, I enjoyed all the chases and the marshmallow treats... and the water hose showers. But... like you said.... they were raised for a purpose.... meat for the freezer. It would have killed me to have to watch them being dispatched in the trailer. I would not have been ready for that. It is different when you have to do it at home. But when you expect to drop them off and drive away........ I am very sorry that happened to you guys. Hugs and much love. I was in 4H for ten years and raised and showed pigs every year. The first year was a shock when I found out my pig was going to be sold and go to a butcher. But I learned so much over the years and really enjoyed it all. My favorite breed was the Duroc. But I also raised Poland China. Good job Daniel.

They forget that the food you raise helps keep someone else in business making money for their family! If you were a big barmaid you would be one who help feed america! It's the facts of life! Let me tell you we raise them and yes we grow attached to them but we gave them a better life then most you shoe affection for your animals you name them and yes they have a purpose! As all farms have it's called knowing what goes in your food and what meds ,minerals and care they qere given! Last year granddaughter showed pigs for 4-H and she got 1st place in her class and 2nd place overall 4-H & FFA. This year the raised pigs but were unable to show them. Hopefully next year they will be able to show. Love watching your videos your farm is very beautiful. God Bless🙏🏻

As a South Louisiana Cajun, we have a traditional "Boucherie" every fall. Friends, family, and neighbors come together with all their hogs. Each group has a job, from killing, scalding, scraping, butchering and cooking. Every part is used. Nothing is waisted. Big celebration down here. My dad was a butcher! We lived on a farm with animals and crops. He worked in town but he processed at the farm sometimes. We had a big red barn with a hay loft and a corn crib. Those are special memories! Not the processing, we weren’t allowed around it. After it was over my dad did not like to talk about it! But we certainly knew where our food came from!

😢😢😢. I know some people may think it odd but I DO love these videos as you prepare for processing. I know the ending but you share how you’ve honored any animals time on the farm. Even giving them a name. These piggies ate so many marshmallows wonder if it sweetens the meat?!?!? Got to say that this processing may have gotten to you in a sad way. Waiting for each one to go to freezer had to be rough knowing you did all you could to not stress them out in their last moments. Not sure I’d use them again for multiple animals on same day. I’ve heard that so many little company’s have popped up lately that take animal down while in trailer cuz of no facility to hold them. A tractor then comes and removes them. People have no idea what’s to happen as they bring their kids on the drive. Certain DeeJay wasn’t happy having to wait for each pig. Thanks for sharing the entire journey of the pigs and even the moments at the processors even though it was a surprise to you. You STILL gave them a good life. And that’s what counts. They were respected. And then you honor them with a final video done very well giving them the respect they deserve as all of us have become so fond of them too. Also my husband has a pair of those boots for casual wear (not a farmer) and he swears by the comfort and style. That was a great way to air a sponsor for you. Very entertaining. While it was sad to see the three pigs that we all watched on video growing up, each of the viewers knew what the end result would be. I've never lived where I could keep pigs; but, I did live on a small farm where I had chickens. I had gotten them for eggs; but, maybe they were too old, or something. I decided I wanted to make chicken and dumplings out of three of the chickens. I worked in a nursing home and asked at work if anybody knew how to slaughter and clean chickens to prepare them for cooking. It surprised me when one of the nurses said that she knew how to do it. She arranged to come over to my place and told me what I would need. She did one chicken and I did another. Then she let me do the third chicken and gave me prompts when I got stuck on a step. Once the head, feet, and feathers get taken off, it just looks like any chicken you can get at the market. But, the pot of chicken and dumplings was the best I'd ever had.

I was raised on a Homestead so I totally understand. I loved all our animals too but we knew ahead of time what they were here for. I showed pigs in school also. They sure are cute as baby piglets. Thank y’all for taking such good care of them and all of your animals! The music was fitting. The flashbacks were most appreciated. Laughter among the tears. Spent the best years of my life visiting, then living on my favourite uncle’s farm. My other favourite uncle, a commercial pig farmer, who lived down the road. So I know where food comes from. The farm I lived on, the pigs were ‘I-Will-Eat-You-Insane’. No personality save for nuts. Uncle Joe had one pig I’d feed pbj sandwiches, popsicles and popcorn too. She’d let me pet her. Scratch her back with a tine rake. I could even put my hand in her mouth, touch her tongue and teeth. Their tongues are really soft. I had just fed her a few ears of corn and a popsicle when I heard him speak in a whisper, ‘Please don’t do that’. Turning around made me step down about 5’ from her. Please step away from her and come here. I walked into the carport where he stood in the shadows. He had tears in his eyes as his face came into focus. Is something wrong with Aunt Evelyn? He let out a deep sigh, no she’s making us lunch. Why are you crying? He stepped into the light and as soon as that sow saw him, she nutted up BIG time. He quickly came back and hugged me SO tight I was sure my spine would snap. I could not hug back for the pain and admitted so. You’re squishing me, I eked. Turning he pulled me into the kitchen to the counter table. We sat quickly. Joe you look like you’ve seen a ghost, Evelyn said. Worse Katie feeding a pig. Where? Sale Barn. Oh, long and low, ending in a whisper. You ought not to do that Katie. Those pigs are crazy. But I feed her treats every day. Clearing his throat, how long? Since Easter. She started giggling that broke into hard side splitting laughter. What stall? The end one by the lot gate. Joe put his head on the counter and sobbed. I hugged him and asked if I had done something wrong again. Babygal you could have got ate by her. I laid my head on his shoulder. I’m sorry I didn’t realize. I mean you scratch their backs with the rake and hose them down, they all seemed tame because of the special treatment they received. All the scraps and fancy pig chow, corn. In unison, they’re not tame at all. Well I’ll leave her alone then. Um, could I still read to her? My uncle’s shoulders started to shake, coughing as he raised his head. Clean your face Joe she said matching his laughter. Okay you can read to her under the carport. I’d stroke her head as I read before, but no more by request. He asked me to wait until lunch so he too could enjoy the stories. She’d poke her snout through the bottom of the last slats to watch me and slowly fall asleep as I read. I’d sit in the light so she could see me. Uncle Joe in the shadows so she’d stay calm. The last week of September she was gone when I went down there. I was sad. Nothing like today’s goodbye. She was calm for me, but none of the personality like, Hairy, Fatty Patty or Bacon. Those little piggies had a mission from arrival. But they were too dang cute from the get go. Sigh, that makes me want some sage sausage real bad. Sorry, not sorry 😋Well, now more energy for Whopper. Then there will be baby goats and maybe a llama 🦙 or two along with a baby donkey. Who knows but it will give us all something to look forward too. Thank y’all for listening to me ramble farm stories. Maybe I’ll tell y’all how a sow taught my uncle Peel how to fly one day. Awesome video ! Grew up processing game with my father after hunts. So I totally understand. Participated in caring for families animals on Farm but never participated in their slaughter but the animals were raised with love and lived a happy life. I so respect you for what you do, raising your animals with love and respect. Stay happy, healthy, hydrated and safe. God bless

My father raised pigs, he and my grandfather use to process them thereselves. Sometimes we watched, most of the time we helped. The first time we helped, it was a few weeks before I ate meat. I haven't looked at pork the same way since. I barely eat pork till this day.

What a beautiful video of raising animals for processing. You gave them their best life. The music was wonderful. I do respect an animals life, and had gone with a friend's mother while in college to Lancaster PA with their pheasants. A very small place that took up to 50 pheasants. I watched the whole procedure, and we left with the processed birds.

I was raised on a farm until my dad was unable to farm. We raised pigs and cows. We took them to be processed. You know what you feed them and it is better than going to the store. Keep up the good work that you do for your family

Some friends of mine raised a couple feeder pigs most years. They named them ham and bacon to remind everyone that they were food animals. They treated them very well.

I've had a pair of Danner boots, lace up with white soles. They've lasted for years I had to renew the water repellent every few. They're duplicate of what you got on. I noticed the other day that you had those boots on. I thought maybe they were Danner...it's a great price on those... That one big pig will come close to 300 The Othet maybe 250...lots of grear pork for the table......Enjoy the chops

The pigs grew with their own personalities and I think they enjoyed their lives. I do see that it's hard to see them go especially when owners or subscriber's got to see and watch their funny tactics they had. Although I'd be to attached and I'd have to drop off at a place that had holding pens or I would of had done them at home and invited some people over to help process.. There is always a u tube farmer that's done it. Even Amish or Mennonites. Good video Arms Family Homestead.

We tried IPP(Idaho Pasture Pigs) which is a cross between kune kune, old Berkshire and Duroc. They have the upturn nose so they don’t root. If they do then they have a mineral deficiency. So they only got 2 pounds of grain as long as they have grass underneath them. They taste so good that we decided to get a breeding pair for next year! You can check out some of our videos on them.

My grandson’s both raised pigs for 4-H and FFA then sold them at auction! They didn’t mind selling them because they got money for them and they didn’t see what happened to them after they were sold!

Good job on how you presented this. And being raised on a farm and we had cattle and pigs and yes we did butcher, the only part of the process we didn't do was the actual dispatching and skinning them, other wise we did all the rest of the butchering ourselves, yes we made the sausage, bacon, sugar cured the hams, pork chops, etc... It's an experience you remember all your life and makes you appreciate the animals even more for what they do for you !
