@RobbieAudet3 күн бұрын
I've always been obsessed with Daron's voice, since I began singing actually as Toxicity was my first album purchase and I would try to copy Serj (guess how that went) so I sang with Daron but IT DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT! I needed to just hear Him- he is so authentic, as you said. Being quick to idolise the top 20 often does have the cliche of all artists' voices sounding the same does exist for a reason, but there are singers who always scramble in there, and then blast you with nothing but themselves on full display and it's always so powerful. I've felt it with Freddie, Bowie, Cobain, (all of which are vastly separated in their own individual raw technical skill, personally bowie doesn't hit top 100 for personally YET he's my favourite vocalist and writer of all time.) Both Serj and Daron are polar opposites in their technical prowess, and they also clearly don't even care for a conversation on that topic, because true, genuine authenticity within art is something special and hard to find and it'd be impossible for them to not know how well they all synergise with one-another. Loved hearing you articulate the importance of being yourself musically/vocally. Really big infodump to understand, accept, and then embrace, so It's awesome to see you tell us viewers point-blank.

Elizabeth, wow, what can I say other than that I genuinely LOVE your analysis of SOAD. All of them. SOAD has a special place in my heart. I grew up performing in choir and followed it all the way through college. I was never more musically inclined than that, I can read sheet music but really cant tell you much of anything else haha. In my more rebellious teenage years I stared branching out to various genres of music, and the first time I heard SOAD I knew there was something special. Dare I say I fell in love with their music, but I never could explain why a guy into choral music loved the likes of SOAD. About the best I could say was that their heavier music spoke to my teenage soul, but their ability to mix it with incredible harmony spoke to my passion for music. Anyway, Thank you!!! Love the analysis of one of my favorite bands in a way that I never could explain when I was younger. Please do more!!!! Looking forward to Toxicity, although mesmerize was always my favorite album which you just covered lost in Hollywood here.

Love to hear that you're doing an analysis of the whole Toxicity album, it's such a phenomenonal one. You can definitely see some of their Armenian folks influences throughout it. I just searched, and I'm surprised that you never did an analysis on "she's like heroin." It's not the most comfortable song, but the way the vocals and overall rhythm start from carelessly chaotic then regress and spiral down into hopelessness and desperation brilliantly weaves the intense emotion into the artwork's expression. I'd love to hear your take on it.

I've heard it said that the song "Green River - Come On Down (1985)" is widely regarded as one of the first songs to embody the grunge sound blending punk rock's raw energy with heavy metal's intensity. SOAD - unapologetically genuine and unique. One of the diminishing number of bands that I truly believe are uncompromising in putting exactly what they intend on their records. "-hands in the air like you don't care" is a pop music trope, like rhyming "maybe" and "baby" it's fairly ubiquitous and tends to be associated with vapid crowd-pleasing songs, although it's used so widely it also crops up in some otherwise great music as well. As you'd expect from the context, it's being deployed ironically here.
