Hello! Wife here. I want to add this disclaimer: These memories are subject to time's degradation and my limited perspective as a young girl. I'm sure others might have other interpretations of the events herein. I was offered a part as an extra along with several other martial artists from the same school. Some of us practiced Tae Kwan Do and others Eskrima (which is why you see a lot of stick fighting in the movie). How my martial arts school got the offer, I'm not sure. Whether the owner applied or was sought out, we all leaped at the chance to be in a movie. We were told it was a cross between Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, and I TOTALLY believed this would be the next EPIC movie. It is, but for entirely different reasons. The film was shot at the Maryland Rennaisance Festival Faire Grounds. My late mother and I were extras together and had to provide our own costumes--except for some prosthetic elf ears, and makeup applied daily. None of us were paid (at least, not that I'm aware of), but we received free lunch every day. We were also promised a free t-shirt and a copy of the movie. I never got a copy of the film. It was over a decade later that I watched it again. Since I couldn't get my mom's insight, I called my dad to see what he remembered. He said, "the lunch was nothing to write home about" (fair enough, I remember eating a lot of those Starkist Tuna cracker packets), and he scoffed that none of the unpaid extras had "regular" jobs; otherwise, they'd be at work. My dad is a bit grumpy, so try and forgive him. In terms of extras, there were a lot of us. I remember two main groups: the martial artists and the faire people. By faire people, I mean people who seemed to be affiliated with the Renaissance Faire in some way. They were decked out in garb and often bawdy, loud, and inappropriate in front of us kids. I remember them getting us shushed by the director on a few occasions. In hindsight, some day drinking was probably involved based on what I remember seeing. Even though I was judgemental then, I totally get it now that I'm an adult. I'd do the same if I weren't getting paid...and quite possibly even if I were being paid. If you're not drunk and macking on busty ladies, are you even at Renn Faire? When in Rome. Anyway. The martial arts extras were split into groups and given choreographed scenes to pitch to the director. I remember practicing in the jousting arena, which was pretty cool. One of the fight scenes I had to perform was between me (and possibly another young girl, I can't remember) and this giant gladiator of a man. It was meant to be comical because the fight subverted expectations, and the little girl(s?) beat the crap out of the man in the scene. Unfortunately, it wasn't chosen for the final cut of the movie. Too bad, it was cute. At the premiere, I remember sitting and thinking, "oh my god, is this bad?" I didn't realize a movie could be bad. But, boy, did I find out. I was mortified at the time. This was supposed to be Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings combined. How did it end up like...that? Over time, though, I became quite proud of MMLL because it introduced me to the beautiful world of hilariously bad movies. And MMLL is tip-top of that genre. There's tons more, I'm sure. If anyone is interested, I'll post more later. Maybe we'll do a rewatch to dredge up some more memories. At the very least, it'll be fun to introduce to our daughter. Hopefully, her baby brain won't be too ashamed of her elf-mommy.

Fun fact: The "Ren Faire" portions of this movie were actually filmed at the one I went to ALL THE TIME growing up. The Maryland Renaissance Festival. I saw the shots showing the front gates and I was like "This couldn't be the same one, right?" and sure enough. Given the age of the movie things have certainly updated a little since then but it was definitely filmed there. Props to the director for budget locations.

Aww, my late dad was the director of photography on this movie. My sister and I were on set a bunch of the ren fair location days, and we had props from it in our basement growing up that we played with all the time (they were basically larp props, ideal to hit each other with lmao). Kevin (the director) actually unexpectedly came to my dad's celebration of life when he heard about it through the grapevine on fb, and he told everyone there about how my dad singlehandedly saved the movie when they had catastrophic audio problems on like day one. It was really kind of him and a really bizarre, silly memory to have on such a tough day. Here because I was completely jumpscared to see the movie from my childhood weekends in a quinton reviews vid, I always forget it's become something that more than like the cast & crew involved actually know about. My dad *loved* low budget filmmaking (he was so weird) and it's strange but nice to see how many other people like it too.

I’m pretty sure the brother is named after the character Gwydion fab Dôn (Gwydion, son of Dôn in English), who is a wizard from Welsh folklore. He himself doesn’t turn into a eagle, but his friend does as a result of an assassination attempt. Gwydion turns him back into a human and nurtures him back to heath. Probably has nothing to do with this movie, but it’s just a little info tidbit for anyone curious.

The talking mouse reminds me of a completely unrelated film from my childhood, Napoleon. An Australian film about a puppy who leaves his home and goes on an adventure, meeting other native animals along the way. Reminds me of that because, they simply voice over the animals without any cgi (I mean, it's a 1995 film tbh) and it works very well. One of my all-time fave live-action movies as a kid. It's very cute, and APPARENTLY has a US Dub version (??? why???) but go check it out.

This is one of the most surreal videos I've seen. I actually saw this movie when I was younger. It was one of those things that I didn't quite understand at the time. I think my brain couldn't tell if the movie was actually being dubbed over? Either way, I repressed the memory and every so often (like once a year or something) I'd vaguely remember this and be all "huh, I wonder if I'll ever figure out what this thing was." Funnily enough I randomly thought about this movie again at work like a week ago and then suddenly, your video was recommended to me!

Almost lost my shit when I saw this video in my subs. A couple years ago I decided to start going by Max online, and for completely unrelated reasons I remembered an old video from RedLetterMedia where they were about to review this very movie, but didn't because the VHS tape was broken. So I knew nothing about the movie, but the very title of "Max Magician and the Legend of the Rings" was so ridiculously catchy that I kept mentally repeating it like a chant until "Max Magician" became my Twitter name. Imagine my absolute delight when years later, I see this video that finally unveils the mystery of what the fuck this movie even was. I am absolutely thrilled to know that the titular Max Magician does, in fact, do magic tricks, and is friends with a field mouse. My skin is clear, my crops are watered, thank you so much

Holy shit the final fight is Solo Levelling. A weak guy joins a group that are all kind of assholes, they lose, the main guy ends up alone and then raises an army of the dead that hard carries

This hurts me so bad to see. This movie was included in a hoard of DVDs that were gifted to my family years ago. I remember being so disgusted by this trash that I took it out of the DVD player and destroyed it. I've told my friends about this movie for years and have always regretted destroying it, so my friends could watch it too.
