@kurbisfurst519424 күн бұрын
@@etutuit Not entirely. They had to kill off the original cast, because they were just too old. It took way too long after Episode 6. So Disney just had a few options here, implement the old cast and kill them while creating new characters with young actors or cast new actors for the old characters, which is a strong gamble. Perfect example for this is the Solo movie. The young actor doesn't look anything like the Han Solo we know. In a similar way I still wouldn't believe that Episode 1-3 Obi Wan would grow up to look like Episode 4-6 Obi Wan. Casting new actors for original established characters is always a gamble and we can see that Disney would very much likely cast actors that were just not fitting to the role.

@keanueraine24 күн бұрын
Disney doesn't want to pay those EU creators unless absolutely necessary. It's why everything is all "new" and created in house. If Disney creates it, then no royalties need to be paid. It's a huge reason why Thrawn was such a big thing, Disney caved to Filoni and had to give Timothy Zhan royalties every time they use him. In Thrawn's case, they will maximize his use to make sure they get as much cash as they can out of him....not hard as he is a fan favorite. So yeah, great ideas in EU/Legends but rights issues with all those novelists creations and stories mean Disney has to either pay royalties or flat out buy them out, something Disney doesn't necessarily want to do because Money. Something like the Yuuzhan Vong invasion while it would be amazing to see on the big screen just wont happen because of this.

In there mind they did everything already and still failed They gave the fans a boba film They gave them obi wav More clone wars Ahsoka Mando (just make something about bounty hunters the fans said) Disney cant understand why it failed. They cant understand its because the writing. So they said hey. Rey is the most valuable asset. Because to make any new projects with these washed characters would require a new universe or rewriting. Or even acknowledging their mistakes or the fans. So rey is the only thing they can do while maintaing bias and dodging responsibility

If they think Rey is their most valuable asset, they all need to be sacked and replaced with people who understand the franchise.

Whatever problems they have right now, they brought it on themselves. Only Rey? Well, what did they do with the classic ones? Luke, Leia, Han? They threw them on the trash.

I really don’t understand; do these creatives know ANYTHING about the current Expanded Universe canon? There’s dozens of canon books, hundreds of comics, and dozens of episodes of animated content to pull characters from! Like, Dr. Aphra is RIGHT THERE as the Star Wars equivalent of Indiana Jones, and she could ABSOLUTELY hold her own show/movie series if she was cast and written properly. Why are they trying to write and create with both hands tied behind their backs? Because boomers/Gen Xers won’t go watch animated content or read comic books?

If Star Wars wanted to make movies that feels like an event, each episode of the Sequel trilogy should've been 3 years apart. In between those 3 years, it could've been the fan favorites' spinoffs. Fans are curious about Finn? Make a political Stormtrooper liberation thriller for him and him becoming a Jedi under Leia. Fans like Kylo Ren? Make a rise of Kylo Ren film. Fans want Luke and his new Jedi Order? Use Rey's point of view to tell Luke's story. Then, the next episode of the trilogy will feel like an Avengers crossover event.

Star Wars was great because it was a classic western, but in space. Well written, decently acted, and with ground breaking special effects. It didn’t rely on foul language, any kind of political, social or cultural “message”. No nudity, well almost none. They had to go there with Carrie Fisher. I mean, ya know✊. And most importantly, and important for ALL movies, we must be able to suspend our disbelief. Not just to believe in things like aliens and space travel, but in characters. That the characters might actually be able to do what they do. When you get into the message weeds, nobody can suspend belief, because the message is so false. 76 million Americans voted for an orange man to prove it.

Lucasfilm saying Rey is Their greatest asset is utter bullshit. She's one of the worst Star Wars characters ever.
@mattrismatt24 күн бұрын
Why do you consider Rey to be one of the worst Star Wars characters ever? Is she not comparable to Luke or Anakin?
@therac19724 күн бұрын
@@mattrismattHonestly don't think so. Rey had a good base VII but the didn't build uppon it, quiet the opposite. There isnt really an ark or development, she comes out the same person just more skilled. Naivity would be something one could have played well of. Her trying to fix everything and having to come to the realisation that she can't. Luke and Anakin both pay tolls for overstimation of their skull and lack in discipline. The "toll" is quiet literal in form of their right hands. And that's somewhat the main problem, Rey gets almost everything gifted to her. I mean even relationships. Name one character outside of the villians that doesn't immediately has a liking to her?
@Zerossoul24 күн бұрын
I think what they're trying to say is that Rey's story is very open ended and they can't agree on where to go with her. That's fair. The issue is, the movies allow Rey to be anything at this point. Good, Evil, A bumb... And there's no real opposition, and therefore no motive to continue. The sad thing is, everything people are saying about Daisy Williams are the same things people said about Hayden Christian after episodes 1, 2, 3. They're blinded by bad writing, and can't actually see that Daisy Williams is fine as an actress. Disney just isn't utilizing her effectively because the writing and narrative is so bad. What's the solution? DON'T FORCE IT. They need to take their time and craft something that's actually Star Wars and not a political statement.

Rey wasn’t even the best character in her own trilogy, enhancing Kylo Ren/Ben Solo’s backstory on screen would’ve been *the* move as far as sequel characters go…why tf do they insist on force feeding us Rey, it’s so confusing.

Rey is their only real asset? TBH I thought Daisy did a great job with what they gave her to work with, but I've got no attachment to Rey whatsoever, in fact she's more of a deterrent for me at this point. She may as well be a harbinger for the people behind the scenes having no idea what's going on or what to do.

Lucasfilm should not do anything with Rey, they should have Luke Skywalker return in a film and have him build his new Jedi Order in a new era! Luke is more of a most valuable cinematic asset and a Star Wars legend than Rey.
@Blisterdude12324 күн бұрын
Nothing about any part of this leak is shocking. Its all too depressingly predictable. The fact Disney CONTINUE to ignore all the massive, sprawling backlog media from Star Wars pre-Disney is wild. Except when they choose to plunder and mangle bits of it for nostalgia for themselves, of course. It's only 'nostalgia-based' because Disney made it that way.
@battledroidsecurity461224 күн бұрын
Maybe not the most popular opinion, but I think the sequels may be salvageable. I think most of us agree that they should’ve done more with Finn, as he was built up in TFA but then they just threw him out of the window after, but he definitely has potential. Given this, I think that, if executed properly, a Finn movie/series would do him justice and maybe make people like the sequels for something other than the memes. I also think the starkiller base was just an awesome concept, I mean just turning a planet into a superweapon and sucking the energy from a star and harnessing it to completely annihilate several planets at a time is just such an amazing concept.
@Dennis-vh8tz23 күн бұрын
They threw their relationship with John Boyega out the window with Finn, and recasting Finn would ensure that conversation about the new project would be an acrimonious and toxic argument about whether Disney's treatment of Finn was racist. So I don't see a Finn moving/series happening any time soon.

It's horrifying how Star Wars has become completely unrecognizable from what it's supposed to be. They've taken one of the most memorable sci-fi settings and turned it into absolute mediocrity. I just saw the poster for "Skeleton Crew" and there was not a single recognizable element in it. If it didn't have Star Wars logo plastered on it, I wouldn't have had any idea what it is. Seriously? How hard is this to screw up. The funny thing is, seeing the prequels as a teen and hating them (I was the target audience at the time) I couldn't have imagined the movies could get any worse. Now, after seeing the sequel fan-fic trilogy, I know things can always, always get worse. IF they only had 1 person at Disney who actually (for real) gave a shit about this franchise and lived it and breathed it like we did, we wouldn't be in this mess. The reality is that the "sequel" trilogy was already written decades ago in the novels, but they didn't want to use it and doomed the franchise for good. There's no salvaging it now, because even if they make a KOTOR movie, they will fuck it up too.
@luk1e._.pook1e24 күн бұрын
yea, they'd ruin a kotor movie by adding "new, unique and diverse" characters instead of what everyone wants to see like malgus walking over the jedi temple like we got in the kotor cinematics. VIDEO GAME CINEMATICS. BETTER THAN ACTUAL MOVIES i just can't anymore
