I went kayak fishing up river near a bridge to get away from the Red Tide, and it paid off big! Getting out at first light made all the difference.

Hey John! I know you're still adjusting to So. FL but try not to put gators in a situation where they're in charge. In low light - they rule! You can't see them - they do see you. Chances of getting whacked are pretty slim but don't let the odds get in their favor. As with sharks, sometimes they make a mistake and hit the wrong food source. Keep the odds in your favor. LI needs you in the summer!

Thanks. I always go out of there early and that was the first time one crashed off the bank. I did have one grab a hooked jack in the river where I caught the tarpon.

If you don't have the app for your battery you can buy a shunt that keeps track of what goes into or out of your battery. On my setup I have both, Bluetooth and the shut. With the shunt you have to look at the gauge. It also have USB ports to charge different items. I don't remember what I paid but I think it was inexpensive.

That area is always productive and you proved it again and no gators ate your fish. I bought an after market bluetooth battery monitor and it didn't really work to my satisfaction, it showed volts and volts are constant anyway. It showed amp hrs but I was leery about it. i've seen bluetooth built in to the battery and that looked good, but I've already spent a small fortune on my 12v system and I'm not going to change it now. I have a boat/us membership and if it comes down to that I'll use it.

Used to be (10 yrs ago) all the tarpon started up river early in the season. Got my 1st (125lbs) up there. One day we saw hundreds daisy chaining up and down for a mile. Could not get 1 to bite that day but they were there, no bs. Last couple years (4-7) that migration has stopped, those big fish don't go up anymore. We fish in a Tarpon club locally w over 200 members. Very discouraging the state of our waters. Keep it up John, good job.

Can you shine some light on your drag settings for surf and boat situations .. can you easily pull the line with your hand without wrapping it ... I know in previous videos you've stated you like locked down drag you've said the worst thing is to hear drag slippage while setting hook but In passed I've used "lock down" drag and have been told on water I'm using way to heavy drag any info would be so appreciated .. it's something I'm constantly in my head about while on water
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing Жыл бұрын
I can't easily pull line off the reel. I keep it as tight as I dare. Exception for albies and tarpon, but still the drag is pretty tight. You'll see on this video that the hook was embedded very firmly in the mouth, and tarpon have the hardest mouths of anything I've fished for.
