Thank you very much for the video 😊 of course we haven’t seen anything before the video release otherwise we would have asked to explain the grouping function , the “send to all” para,etera that allows you to change the configuration of the “console” with one click and the “auto” gain staging, but that’s a cool video nevertheless 😁

Pulled up an old project, put this on a drum bus (op-amp), strings (tube - replacing decapitator), and acoustic guitar (tube) and BAM - I could hear how I needed to tweak EQ & compression on everything else. Spent the last hour making those tweaks and I finally have a mix with the energy I always wanted. The op-amp setting gives the best API vibe. Better than my much loved slate digital virtual mic buss. The tube setting is really nice on the right stuff too. Thank you for this gift!!

He's a good developer, but the caveat is that he hasn't been able to compete against TEAMS (plural for people) like Klanghelm, Softube, Izotope, even House of Kush/Kush Audio or Tone Projects even. The only solo developer that has been able to compete against giants like Waves Israel and Softube is the Voxengo developer and he's one of the first to make VST effect plugins without using the limiting SynthEdit software developer kits! Unfortunately, most of his plugins have been upstaged more recently by TEAMS (plural) of developers doing the same thing. As the old axiom goes, "the lone wolf dies alone"...you need a TEAM to compete out here.

@@TheReal_E.IRIZARRY I'm going to disagree with you there, there's some amazing work out there by solo developers .. Analog Obsession, airwindows, Audio Assault, Tukan, , Viator DSP, Yuri Semenov just off the top of my head. Sure, you're unlikely to see certain niche products like say Izotope Neutron from a solo developer due to the scale issue you mention. But one thing I do know, is that the solo developers tend to make relatively streamlined software, and it's either free or great value for money. I tend to use it more often than the "big team" type software, to be perfectly honest.

@Elektronijaenis
@Elektronijaenis 2 жыл бұрын
The age thing probably mostly emulates deteriorating electrolytic caps. The effect was pretty similar in tubes and both of transistor types (opamps are just a bunch of transistors, usually in the same chip package). Besides tubes the electrolytic caps are the part that actually age significantly. Transistors (and opamps) age too, but far less and slower especially in preamps.
@HoRNetWeb
@HoRNetWeb 2 жыл бұрын
Actually it changes the capacitors so it changes frequency response, and changes the bias in transistor and tube while in opamp simulates the power unit giving less current and thus changing the saturation point
@Elektronijaenis
@Elektronijaenis 2 жыл бұрын
@@HoRNetWeb Yes. It changes the capacitance, but can the effects really be simplified like that? It will also change ESR and DC-leakage. How these affect the circuit will depend on what the cap is doing in the circuit. Probably the most audible change would be the the low frequency response because of the coupling caps. But how on earth would capacitors change how much current is available on the power supply? Are we talking about old fashioned linear power supply in this? (I wouldn't really see the point in simulating a switch mode PSU here.)
@HoRNetWeb
@HoRNetWeb 2 жыл бұрын
@@Elektronijaenis sure, on pampas the effect is just to change the frequency of the coupling DC filters (bringing them into audible spectrum) and also changing the cutoff of the feedback loop. Regarding the power amp, keep in mind that we are simulating 80s stuff here, switching were not common in power amp so we have big transformers, power rectifiers, power transistors used for stabilization and big electrolitics used as current buffers, what happens when this capacitors dry out? less current to handle big peaks in audio, this in turns creates more saturation.
@Elektronijaenis
@Elektronijaenis 2 жыл бұрын
@@HoRNetWeb Yes. Transformers, rectifiers and filtering. That's exactly why I thought your answer was weird. I can understand a bit less current on peaks if there are any peaks. However... That mainly applies to power amps (class AB and such). However, mixers are preamp circuitry and as such should pull mainly quite even current. So... That's why I don't really get what you are explaining something about the peaks. But anyhow... There might be something I'm not quite understanding as I'm not a pro (just been tinkering with audio electronics since 90's).
@HoRNetWeb
@HoRNetWeb 2 жыл бұрын
@@Elektronijaenis well condor the current drain of a whole console, it's not just a fe milliamps like it would be if this was a single preamp unit, a dried capacitor in the power source of a 48 tracks console may well reduce the total current available...

Grouping, Group Trim controls (channels, busses or both) from the Master instance, and global drive control. This Hornet one does come in at a close 2nd place for workflow though. It does at least have a form of grouping, but it's limited. The Plugin Alliance and Softube ones do not have any grouping or global saturation control, which is a workflow killer. They expect the user to open every single instance and adjust trim/drive which is not fun.

Hornet has some nice plugins for sure! I still prefer my Neve 5057 Orbit for Coloring the sound and do a Perfect SUM like ITB. I use the -6db output stage which prevents you from clipping the signal as it limits the peaks and rounds transients off so you cant get any “Overs” would love to see DW Nulling those features out the same ITB. Yea Analog Summing is expensive as you need a great AD/DA converter, and PRO Cabling. But you need that anyway if working with music………. This Hornet plugin cant do what my Neve does. Dont like the sound from this plugin as tried it before. Cheers

@@patrickalphenaar i am really sorry i wasnt trying to be mean at all. Im just really fed up with all the "analog is better" mentality that, in 2022, is a lie. I agree with you on the part that you still prefer your neve over a plugin but it just stays like that. a preference. as a matter of fact, blind test a normal person on a neve vs a plugin and tell the guy that the plugin version is the analog one, he will chose the plugin out of the thought that it was the neve!

@@hithere4289 No Need to say sorry at all as i did not feel offended, it is your opinion and your thoughts so thats all fine to me. I never claim analog is better as digital is way way better! However at the same time too sterile, perfect, boring, lifeless. Then I always dial in my Hardware to have loads of very little subtle changes which breathes life in the audio. It removes all those imperfections from digital! Digital is better! Analog is just sounding nicer! And thats just my opinion nothing more or less. Cheers.

I don't get it... If you wanted to drive the OpAmp, but found it difficult... Are you not suppose to engage the "Mic (+20)"? Isn't that what the feature is largely for?
@HoRNetWeb
@HoRNetWeb 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's exactly why it's there, so you can overdrive badly the input. OpAmps are pretty clean but don't sound very good when pushed vey hard once they only produce odd harmonics.

hey, does it happen to anyone else that no matter what plugin you use that has oversampling, anything beyond 1x sounds more processed and a "just not right" kinda feel?
@GoldenDeathMusic
@GoldenDeathMusic 2 жыл бұрын
yeah, I don't like oversampling in general for this reason. It definitely sounds smoother or something along those lines the higher you go, but that almost never equates to better in my book. I like a little rough edges in my music, and you definitely lose some transient detail or something like that whenever you oversample.

I actually preferred the track without the plugin. Though probably because you pushed things a bit hard as you said. Seems like a fine plugin though but I honestly don't think it's much different from putting your favorite saturation plugin that you already own on your busses or mix or whatever. Also, in my experience, putting saturation on each track in DAW is a total waste of time unless you dial in different settings for every track. Just put it on your bus track and dial it in how you want it, there is no added benefit of putting it on every track.
@fvasallo4591
@fvasallo4591 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed! however, when putting different saturation settings on busses, you can get some benefit in choosing the type of saturation depending on the type of source so you can get different harmonics (odd/even) depending on the source material which adds to a fuller sound. Example, Tube on bass, Tape on drums, Tube or Tape on vocals, Transistor on keys/synths, etc. Whatever you choose to your own taste, but each source will have different harmonics that add up to a bigger/fuller sound than just slapping a single stage of saturation on the 2 bus (which has its application and may be all a track needs as well).

Me too. This mix sounds def a bit muddy with the plugin on to my ears. But i guess a slight upper range boost could def make me prefere the track with it. Or maybe some more dynamic low-midz to make the mix sound cleared. Or both, idk

other than all the tweakability, with frankly would drive me into therapy, isn't this pretty much an also-ran to Waves NLS, all of the Air Windows Console versions, and many other similar approaches? Of course your opinion is highly valued.
@SinclairSound
@SinclairSound 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know about waves, but I think airwindows is actually about being much subtler. Chris has some sort of waveshaping algorithm running into a bus processor with a high end softening process. Where as this is focused on more obvious distortion. From my understanding Chris is much more focused on the analog sound stage effect. But I'm not anymore near smart enough to be confident in this answer. Chris is a DSP wizard.

@@SinclairSound From what I can gather, you're right, and Chris has separate analog summing plugins (the Console series) and ones that emulate the coloration of certain consoles (eg BussColors), so you have even greater control.

@blackswanstudios6632
@blackswanstudios6632 2 жыл бұрын
You can't compare those. It's like...what is best, a distotion plugin or a reverb? It's apples and oranges. The Bx consoles are channelstrips, their main selling points being really great EQs and filters (In case of the J and the N, probably the best EQs and filters outside of Nebula tech.) They also have compressors etc. Considering you can get the Bx channelstrips during a sale for like 29 bucks, WITH all those features included, the Hornet plugin actually becomes the more expensive option considering what you get and don't get. If anything you might compare it to SumThing (Tukan) or NLS (Waves), Briton/Satson (Sonimus).
