Welcome to the virtual R&R family Chrissy, it's good to meet you! Jess, the house is going to be awesome! I've always loved the old traditional farm houses, especially ones with two stories and a wrap around porch. That was always my dream but it never happened. I used to work in restaurants cooking and I have always wanted to setup my kitchen like a professional kitchen with a walk in cooler and freezer and giant bulk pantry. Congratulations Jess! You are living my dream life!!! Thank you for sharing this and taking me along. I am old and alone now and my dream life is no longer relevant to my reality. But getting to watch you living out my dreams makes me very happy. You go girl!!!

Omg so excited to watch your dream house come to reality. I just love to watch the joy that exudes from you, it makes joy bubble up in me as well lol. 😊thank you for that. Your build sounds so much like my grandmothers farm house.. be mindful to put a bathroom close to each of your doors, both front and back. Just so no one has to trek into your clean space to use the toilet haha. What a wonderful experience to have to build your dreams as part of your legacy ❤❤❤❤

Jess I feel your struggle with no place to process. I have a 60 year old mobile home that has a tiny galley style kitchen. TWO people cannot fit, I've tried. NO DISHWASHER, and the washer dryer is in the kitchen as well. We utilize the tops of both as work surfaces but it's so difficult to get anything accomplished but we do it. HOPEFULLY in the next year or so, we will be putting an addition on and will be the new kitchen living room area and converting those two current rooms into bedrooms since we currently only have two tiny bedrooms and I'm raising 3 grandbabies that are 13yo male 11 yo male and 14 month old female. ITS TIGHT YET COZY. I FEEL you pain about not having the room to spread out and process! HUGS and I know you are going to have great success building your dream home! As always love your content! ❤

You are going to have a "back kitchen"! My Nana had one. She brought in everything from the garden in the back door that opened into the back kitchen. She also had a stove to can on or cook on in the summer so she didn't heat up the main part of the house. There were windows on every side of the room plus a screen door so that room caught the breeze. So important in the days before air conditioning. Nana also had a bed in the back kitchen. That was were she slept in the summer. I slept there too when I visited. ❤

Love the floor plan! Curious to know if you will have a basement and a cold cellar to keep your preserves and such in a cool environment. I have fond memories of my Oma and myself making numerous recipes with pickled vegetables & sweet fruit preserves/compotes/relishes/chutney’s to keep us until the next spring harvest. We also stored tinctures and syrups as well. It was also a great place to have onions, potatoes, squash, carrots kept in wicker baskets ready and waiting for the next meal!

We have an old Fairmount Royal cook stove in our house. When we were looking at getting a wood cook stove we went around and all of the ‘new’ cook stoves were so small and looked like toys. We found a place that will refurbish old cast iron stoves. We even went to their place and looked at all of the different stoves they had. We were only looking for a wood burning stove, but they said that we should get one that will burn wood and coal so that we had the option later if we wanted to burn coal. The firebox needs something different done to it because of how hot the coal burns. We were also looking at getting a water reservoir on the stove to always have hot water, but in talking to them we decided not to get one and we have not missed it. We have had our stove for about 10 years and LOVE it!!!

I am so excited for you and your family. I’m also so grateful for everything you share here and on your other channel The Farmers Table. We downsized from our large home with almost three acres a few years ago and moved into a townhome. I want to create a small garden but living in a townhome there is no land for that. We have a deck but they spray the grass and trees in the development during the warm weather (I did not realize this when we bought our home) and the wind blows the chemicals everywhere. We have to close the windows for at least a day. I don’t know how to make the deck useable to have raised beds because of this. I’ve been thinking maybe an enclosed portable zip up greenhouse, but would that keep the chemicals out? It makes me want to go back to a single family home to have some land so I can plant. We are older, and doing our best to save money and food just keeps going up. Thank you for sharing all your ideas for cost savings and for your prayers and concerns as so many experience the higher costs of things and look for ways to live well, healthfully, and joyfully. Bless you and your family. Excited to learn more about your friend and her channel🥰
