The mavericks main problem last year along with injuries early was that they didn’t have a set starting lineup. This year their main strength is the fact that they are so deep that there is no starting lineup. The mixture of players that are out there varies so much from week to week. Hell even game to game at times.

You can also see that with the Orlando Magic. They have Carter Jr. and Goga Bitadze who are doing similar things on the court. You could also add Jonathan Isaac to that list but he sees lots of minutes at PF as well. The difference between the Mavs and Magic center rotation is the occasional spacing from the Magic centers while the Mavs centers roll very agressive instead

It’s the bigs that makes the biggest difference. The warriors had great shooters but they didn’t never had a great center outside of javale mcgee. Now Klay has a couple great Biggs to pass to, get rebounds and that’s all a great shooting team needs.

Ironically their secret weapon is klay Thompson. Having him on the floor makes defenders so scared that they will never leave him open which generates space for the pic and roll/DHO they love to run. If that was last year Josh green then they’d sag off and clog the paint. Now that’s he’s warmed up and knoccing down his shot he’s been a consistent 3rd scorer allowing others to go off when needed. Not to mention he’s been a good defender and he’s making smart plays. He’s not dropping 25 and loccing up a ja morant so nobody cares, but klay has lowkey been a lynch pin for this team. Yes PJ is the ultimate factor, but klay has been the secret

they both need to swap in the starting line up. Keeps them fresh for leading and backing up the other. It will come in handy in future situations or injuries (god forbid) they’ll both be familiar. Both Lively and Gafford are unique and shouldn’t be compared to each other. But what they have that makes our core strong is that they are both true BIG MEN. Not a lot of NBA teams have players that play traditional roles only these days. They have centers who want to be a point guard bring the ball up and shoot threes. I could break this down more. But we have something no one in the league has. A true traditional basketball team. And that feels good here in Fort Worth/Dallas LETS GO MAVS!!!!

Finally some love for Daniel Gafford. He is an elite athlete at the C position. This translates to rebounds, blocks, and the perfect roll man with Luka & Kyrie. The guy won't be in MVP talks, but he does everything this team needs. To top it off, when you add in both his & Lively's production, they combine for 21.2 points, 14.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.8 blocks, & 1.1 steals per game. That is all you need & more from your center position. Then to answer your question about what makes this team ungaurdable, it's their whole team. They have so much depth. The only place they are somewhat lacking is depth at the PF position. You have Luka & Kyrie, both playing PG when the other sits. You have Dinwiddie as the 3rd ball handler. Klay & Grimes demand attention from 3. Both Naji & PJ are putting in work on both ends of the floor, both extremely versatile. You have the 2 headed center monster. Then you have a versatile guy like Kleber in that 10th spot if needed. That is a strong 10-man package. If this team picked up a player like Herb Jones... I'd pick them as favorites to win a title. They are that deep/talented imo.
