Hey, the screws shaking out, I have a solution: Locktite (and others) make a tube of goop that you can put on a screw before you shove it into the hole, it's a sticky rubbery compound that stops the screws from unscrewing under vibration and stuff. Absolutely worth getting. Threadlock is what these products are called. The screws come out easily with a screwdriver, so you won't ruin anything.

I have this and also use for racing, flight and space sims. Oh, and having in your living room an amusement park with unlimited roller coasters is a blast. It is not yet a refined consumer product, but a platform for enthusiasts willing to put in the time to understand it and hack your own modifications. The company is very responsive, stands behind the product and makes constant improvements. Motion compensation is essential and the best method varies with the type of VR headset one owns. (I use Index/Lighthouse tracking). As Tyriel shows, mounting controls and establishing balance is very important. I aim for static balance even with heavy wheel and pedals by mounting two 10lb weights on the back rim. This puts less demand on the motors as a neutral position requires no mechanical input. The range of motion exceeds any other available motion platform in roll and pitch and certainly in yaw with a theoretical unlimited degree of spin (wired VR HMD limit this). By the way, you can't evaluate the effectiveness of the experience by watching external videos of it in use. The truth is in how it feels.
@jandersen68023 жыл бұрын
How does the motion compensation work? And how much does it help against vr sickness?
@burkejohnson45392 жыл бұрын
@@jandersen6802 motion compensation would be essential. Unless you have it, the vr headset interprets the movement of the motion simulator the same as you moving your head because you can't tell the difference. In other words, if you step on the brakes, the sim tips forwards to simulate the momentum, and your vr headset thinks you're looking down, so whenever you brake you would be looking down in game. Sounds pretty nauseating to me.

Tryiel- Your moment arm and location is all wrong for the counterweight. If you put your counterweights at the height of your headrest, and put the weight at the end of a rod sticking out at 90 degrees from the back of your head, you can reduce the amount of weight to a few pounds. I am an alaska bush pilot. We pilots must sometimes counterweight our planes to satisfy weight and balance for example if I fly alone vs passengers with a moose (butchered pieces) in the back. The counterweight requirement is reduced exponentially as the weight moves to the end of a longer moment arm, and is raised higher than the center of thrust to take advantage of leverage. The concept is like a long and short handle wrench, a long handle wrench has more tork. from the longer moment arm.

I've been using a DOF Reality P3 for four months now and am very happy with it. I think it's probably better than the Yaw VR but haven't tried one. If crazy yaw motion and tons of space for spinning is what you want, this is probably a better choice. For sim racing, you don't need a ton of yaw motion and the P3 fits my setup nicely. You still need to balance and customize it to your needs but I'm sure that applies to all consumer motion rigs.

I don't know... You still have to have all of the cables going from the headset and all of your peripherals to your computer. If the thing spins 360 degrees then it is either going to tangle all of the cables up as they wrap around its base or it is going to pull them out of the computer or pull the whole computer over. You would have to mount the computer to the thing and power it with a battery in order to fix the cable issue and even then, your computer is going to be getting jerked and jarred constantly as the thing moves around which is not going to be good for the computer. I foresee broken fans, graphics cards, PCIe slots, and CPU sockets being an inevitability in that scenario. If you are still running old fashioned spinning hard drives then kiss those goodbye as well.
