Nothing wrong with doing music. Its just a bad time to get in the business. Actually the best time to make music and get your inventory up and when the time comes release . Us musicians and artist find it hard to just give up. I'm not selling my beats for cheap, I will just enjoy listening to my shT until the time is right or die without selling. Got out of the business right before streaming started but keep a good paying 9 to 5 so its not my bread and butter.

I think this is why we need to learn how to produce more than rap beats. And learn how to produce and not just make beats. Production is knowing how to work with artists, knowing music in general and the different elements from mixing to mastering and knowing how to pick people who have certain flavors to complement the artist. These days if you don't have the full spectrum of production you will be underpaid for sure.

I have been in music as an artist/producer for over 35 years. And point blank, the model is f’d up today. The entire industry has messed itself up, with stupid decisions. Such as moving away from physical media. Moving towards going social media control of our fan interactions. Giving our music to streaming sites for virtually nothing. The changes aren’t just in music though. The film industry is also struggling moving away from physical media. I have sold tens of thousands of CDs and cassettes (back in the day) of my music. And we have to find a way to bring back physical media and merchandise. These are tangible, items our fans and customers can hold in their hands. 💯🎤🎙

Music is no longer the product but it can be used as a way to market your brand. Treat music like any business in this digital economy. You have to know marketing and selling. You have to be a good content creator to build an audience. And you have to have products or services to sell or else you won’t make money. So I think it’s a good time to do music for people with the knowledge and skills of being an entrepreneur.

Only the real artists who will literally do it for the sake of the art will survive because to them it’s not a hustle. And those will be the artists that will come out on top. I'm not going to tell all my business but I have been put through the wringer and tested. When you survive you are stronger. I'm even into expert prompting, I thought I would only have a few but dam if people hit and overwhelmed me. I had to figure a way not to turn away people and make a schedule for myself. That market is WIDE open. dude is to sad for me. When you start off a video saying "IT'S JUST A HARD TIME OUT HERE........." I just find because of my ocd I’m not like these trap producers who take 10 mins to make a beat I really take my time to provide and create the best beat I can. I do everything myself. It’s just being able to consistently pump beats out on a scheduled time frame. 5 to 10 a week. Is the goal.

I have to disagree because, for me, I'm 57, the worst moment started after 1995/96 or something like that... ...when a bunch of "Oh I got a sampler and now I'm a producer/musician" started... Look, I am not saying that samplers started to be disposable at that moment... But at that time, tons of "Bomb Da Bass"-like records started to drop out from everywhere... Then they started to call that "House Music", then I have no idea how New Jack Swing became what they call "R&B" when R&B used to be Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, Cheryl Linn, Teddy Pendergrass, Billy Ocean, etc., etc. Too many toys among too many people didn't know how to musically use and started to be used as weapons where everything must be sexualized, aggressive, offensive, etc. ...in the 80's they had tons of great musicians that should record at the third try tops. 'Cause the tape could start to lose its quality after too many tries... ...now you can lay like a cat walking over a piano keyboard then you stop the DAW and rearrange all that messy noise. You can even use only your elbows to do it... And I am not complaining about computers and technology. Prelude Records dropped D-Train You're The Ine For Me 12" and it is full of electronic sounds. A pure gem. The System made 3 or 4 great songs... The list of those great musicians using new technologies is considerable. But the number of newbies with a TR-909 or a TR-808 and a couple of synths that started to jump out of the blue was impressive. And it seems they are the ones who people of today are drinking from. People started to mimic the mimicked. It's like copying the Xerox copy, copied 1.000 times before from the previous copy. Now the beauty, the mood, the energy sounds sterile, dead, not human.

Too many people have access to software to make beats these days, unlike the 80’s and 90’s where hardware equipment was expensive, artist and records would pay top dollar for good music production. Now it’s like hey I have a iPad and I have 1000 Beats I made on it, I’ll give you 6 beats for $50, lol 😂… it really sucks, because if they would all take their music seriously and put a higher price on their production, then they could make a good living from their creation.

I think it is needed because there is too much garbage out today. The talented creators , producers, writers, etc are all overshadowed by less talented individuals because the bar has been lowered too low. The economy plays a big part in it as well. Sounds like you have a promotion problem. Instead of complaining, do what other independents do to promote their work. If you think you’re that special, where are you promoting it? Talent never was enough. You can have all the talent in the world and fail because you don’t understand the business element. Artists who don’t know the business end often don’t get heard. Other Artists thrive because they have people or they themselves are doing the hard work to get them known. It isn’t about idolatry. It’s called marketing and promotion. It’s call business sense.

Competition turns art into yet another business. It kills actual self expression and instead transforms artworks into products - ''Content creation'' as they call it. This leads to an environment where artists turn into salesmen trying to mimic whatever seems to be doing well on the market. This system has been designed to break artists because they know the artist mind and the business mind operate from very different perspectives.

There is money out here the US is not in a depression at this moment. I have seen companies flourish now after covid 19 than prior that. There are 3 main things in business that will keep floating: 1. food 2. shelter 3. clothing. One of those main pieces after that is entertainment, Music, comedy, news, medical etc. Whenever you do something have an A, B, and C plan. For one in America people waste to much food, when you get money live below your means!!! When people lost their jobs when 911 happened, they were killing themselves literally because thy didn't live below their means. if you get 50,000 don't act like you're a $500,000 type of person living like that. People need to learn stop eating 9 times a day. You how many times I eat a day? Once or twice, that's it. we have to train our bodies bro. This runs deeper than just music and money. To keep it simple , it's about life styles. I have ten suits of various colors, that fit me, Im not going to grown anymore 🤣. There are people who feel they can't wear a suit twice. this is the crazy thinking. I have seen and still seeing businesses go up, and are coming up. One thing we gotta stop doing is thinking to make it HERE IN THE US. Bump that sell to Japanese artist that do R&B, Pop, etc. At $2.2 billion, Japan is the world's second-largest music market after the U.S. But it's evolving. Revenue from digital sources rose to 35% last year, from about 21% in 2018, according to the Recording Industry Association of Japan. We have to stop thinking we should be rich. I want to be wealthy, with heir properties, and to do that is do more than one thing. You think Shaq is not making money after basketball? NO!!!! he has side businesses also and he still works. That's what we gotta do. Do podcast, hell you're a producer, do master classes etc. This is what I tell people stop spending money on stupid sh*** save your money for a storm. One woman asked me "Why are you saving money?" I looked at her like that ----------> 😱 😮 and just walked away. The most asinine question this year someone could of asked me. Her mind set is you only live once might as well spend it, cause you can't take it with you. But not realizing, she's not dead yet and she needs to see a future instead of the hear now experience. OMG 😱 I think I wrote a dam book 🤣 Sorry about that, but yeah good video man keep doing your thang!!!! Peace!!! people can check me out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2SbqoJ4pNV_Y5I

100,000 tracks uploaded to Spotify alone today. Tells you all you need to know. Combine that with no one really paying for music anymore or if they do its a few pennies to $5. It's a dream people chase despite logic telling you its pot luck. Being really good at music means nothing today. They have plugins and apps to make up for talent. I just wonder when do folks look at the music industry and say "gee, I'd be better off doing something else?". Maybe then 10,000 songs uploaded to spotify per day instead? 😁 You best learn a real instrument and join a good band that can tour and play live shows. That's where the money is at. Or be a festival DJ, some of them are making up to$100,000 per gig like Charlett De Witte. They don't even pay for the music they p[lay and get rich off of. Artists are just meat to the industry.

Imagine if Nike came out with only 2 shoes. Or Apple only made a PC. Point is stop creating 1 or 2 songs/projects expecting a liveable wage that's insanity. Build a catalog, research where people are listening and what they are listening too. Feed the market that supports. AND yes pay for PROMOTION. How the hell are people suppose to know who you are. Smh
@EasyThere
@EasyThere 5 ай бұрын
Most of the streaming services only promote those who pay for promotion. The whole development and networking system broke down because non-creatives steal more and more. There are no aggregators promoting good stuff because so few people listen to radio anymore and no one wants strikes for copywrite. They need to relax those rules a bit for promotion. A dude playing 30 seconds of your track because he loves your work isn't the same as a movie production house stealing it for a movie. If I link off site to a track you made I can get dinged for spam by the system and have comments disabled for days...sometimes the system scrubs it from comments immediately. You can link on your bio/albums/playlists but no one can share that info without risk.

yeah it's 30 dollars per beat but the person gets 50% producer/writer split on the songs people do so if theres three artists on that beat, the producer will get more than the people
@HOLLASOUNDS
@HOLLASOUNDS 5 ай бұрын
I think a clarification should be made it's $30 to lease a beat not buy a beat, lets be clear, because alot of people seem to miss that part. You could lease a beat for $30 and sell a beat for $5k if you want, or make make exclusive beats for $1k. The question is whether or not your music is more then just generic Trap or what ever that justs sounds like everything else there is no value when thousends of producers make the exact same beats.
@KingFedarro

People are not getting 5k that often in this market. People are barely getting 1k in this market. Competition is driving the price down. Its great for the consumer and customers but bad for the creatives

Facts, personally i think 50 percent split is ridicolous when the artist makes less after costs are considered then of course taxes take half. i would make a deal with a profucer to own the masters to the beat outright for a fair lump sum, not no 50 percent
@Eldrvck
@Eldrvck 5 ай бұрын
@@ES-cl5hi the artist and producer make the same amount. They split 50/50 of songwriting and publishing, but once you get a label involved that’s where you lose.

What gets me is that you have producers out here making beats and don't even know the fundamental basic scales to make music. The current music scape sounds like 1 big ass loop, everything sounds exactly the same, no diversity in the music at all. It'll get better when all of the fake producers get weeded out.

We gotta stop calling these people producers and beat makers. Real musicians not going for that especially when you are classically trained or its a natural gift. I seen people yes lets call them people that sell 50 beats for $4.99. These are people downloading free or pirated software and loops and throwing drum loops on top. Everything isn't for everyone. Its like no one want to do any other career job but music and its sickening. I must say rappers have been selling this dream that make regular people feel like o forget going to college I can just do music and its a slap in the face to people are born to do this...I can go on for days but thats all Ill say for now

One year later he said he has made enough money that he and his family will never have to work again. And he did it without a manager or record label. So sorry but there are no more excuses.
