Yeah hes killing it but let's see how many of these amplifiers make it as long as a Rockford or a kicker. Let's see if big d has any of these amplifiers on his wall in twenty years. They will be sitting with the boss and pyramid. What is the length of life of these ample of fires for real? Why does he have to make new designs so quickly so fast what is he hiding? If you made your design good from day one you wouldn't be updating your board you wouldn't be updating the Process. It would already be set. So i'm saying he must have cheated in the first stage's. @@MacNifty - you make some valid points. I give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. There is always a rosk in buying anything. Like any new product you always see room for improvement. With large companies it take more time for them to change. Being a smaller company has its perks and allows for updates to done quicker withoit red tape. As long as things are improving the customer wins in my book. As for the longevity that is a tough one. Most products today (cars included) do not last as long as older models. Most items are throw away and meant to last just past their warranty. Sad but true in my experience. When companies over build a product the warranty usually indicates that. In my case I am lookong for a couple years of usuage. Anything more is a plus in my book. By then things may have gotten better technology wise. I would like the choice to upgrade and not be forced, but you don't ever truely know unless the warranty backs it up.

Great dynamic headroom, indicative of a overbuilt amplifier! As for the caps you would be surprised how good some of those Chinese caps are. The Eton Core which is an extremely high end SQ amplifier with the lowest distortion of any amplifier in the world… It uses Chinese capacitors (Yuscon but it’s Yuscons high end line) so I think that is a good example of the Chinese making quality components. To get Genuine nichicon capacitors, you have to import them from Japan into China for amplifier assembly so it’s not just the cost of the capacitors its the cost of importing them instead of buying domestically inside of China. I would guess it would add a solid 20 bucks if not 40 bucks to the cost of the amplifier

I ordered a jp23 refurbished amp. Removed my ctsounds ct1500.1d amp that has been faithful for 6 months. Slide the jp23v1.5 in its place, checked preamp voltage, im running oversized 1/0 ofc wire, 2 agm xs d3100 batteries. The amp blew a cap on the filter side within 5 minutes of me having the amp. Thankfully the bottom is clear and I took a picture straight out of the box. You could see the cap was leaking when I got it. So I had to send it back the same day I got it. I have sent it in and I am waiting to see what they say. I was told they would replace all the caps. I wondered why they didn't use better caps myself, the filter caps sax 25 volt caps are only .08 cents each. I trust down4sound will take care of me. Just sucks I waited a week for the amp then had to ship it right back to the repair department. I asked if I could pay the extra money for a new amp and was denied. The listing stated 1 year warranty but it only has 30 days. I'm frustrated, but as long as they make it right is all the counts. Customer service has been great to work with, he is polite and patient. However, he can only do what he is allowed to do. It's up to the company to inspect products and step up when at fault.

As for better caps, they could make it a special/limited edition of 250 or 500 units. I dunno how much better it'd make an amp in this power range but it'd certainly be interesting to do a head-to-head. (D4S might have an arangement with their supplier that doesn't allow this subisturtion or makes it prohibitively costly) I suspect you'd need to do more than just a brute force output power test. Fidelity in, versus Fidelity out, dunno what test equipment that'd require though so perhaps it isn't a practical showdown.

Better caps? A great video would be to take an amp (this JP amp would be a good candidate) and recap with high-end caps such as Nichicon or something similar. Then re-run the dyno tests and see if power or distortion specs change. There’s some work to do on selecting the correct replacement caps. Once you pull the stock caps it would be good to analyze them out of circuit for basic characteristics such as ESR. Same for the high quality replacements. Then solder in the replacements and run the dyno tests. I’m happy to help where I can (I’m a EE but not a good one, mostly do software these days because $$$) and can support with tools if needed. If you aren’t comfortable with the recap work, a local repair tech can knock it out in minutes for little coin, just bring him/her the board and caps.

The caps on most big brands are generic like these. For most they will never experience issues with them. Brands like Nichicon, Panasonic, Rubycon, etc. are used by techs and have lifespans of tens of years. You won't find these caps in virtually ANY amp under $2000 due to the added cost of integrating into the manufacturing process. My mention wasn't to say they are "bad", but simply a recommendation to make the amps even better than they already are 👌

Higher end caps aren't going to make any difference on the rail voltage. It's the signal path where caps will shine. Also remember, there is much more to a capacitor than a name. The specs are not the same on all caps. Nichicon and other manufacturers might not make a cap specific for the needs of a particular amp or other electronic devices.

I think someone smarter than me can say why, but I'm sure that increasing the quality of capacitors leads to lower distortion. Just like having cooler running resistors etc can lower Johnson-Nyquist noise. I was looking into mods people have done to my DAC and the highest measurable results. Although its funny I have old Alpine amps (T757, 1505 etc) with busted open Nichicon caps but the other caps inside are fine, while I have so many different "cheaper" amps that use these special low profile Chinese caps and none have popped their top on me yet

Very nice monster amp but pricey! I agree why cheap parts Id pay it knowing it has top notch quality parts inside not cheap ones, other amps are available beating the price if this one.I still like the brand d4s.

We aren’t here to be “the cheapest guy on the block” so if all a person bases their purchase on is price , by all means they can purchase from somebody else 😊

That amp would make a great full system amp. Run front stage and subs rear fill off the deck.
@wal Жыл бұрын
Yeah just gotta be careful with that 600x2 on the front 😲. Lots of headroom and could kill most 2-way components
@kingwillie206 Жыл бұрын
@@wal- There’s no way I would use two way speakers with that. Lots of component speakers though 👍

Way to powerful for fronts lol. 16 subwoofers though..........

If the caps are not causing any issues then it would be bad business all around to put more expensive ones in just for a name.
@wal Жыл бұрын
I’m not saying they are bad, but the generic caps aren’t available to the public so we can test and verify their ratings…without pulling them from the amp(s)

if you lookup the brand of cheap cap's used in this amp you will find countless story's of how they fail early and are just junk. it is very well known not to use these caps for anything I would not buy this amp just for that reason alone ps: sorry JP love what you do brother

The issue with putting in supposedly better caps is that most people buy amps based on power and price. If someone else sells a more powerful amp for the same price or less then a lot of people are going to buy that amp thinking it is a better value. In part because most people have no idea what quality parts are. Then again, simply because we have an opinion about one brand versus another doesn't mean we're always right. Is Nichicon always better or is that simply the only name of a brand appreciated for quality that you happen to know? Do we have evidence that Yuscon is always worse or that there is a functional and meaningful difference in their caps that could be heard and appreciated in the noisy world of car audio. As enthusiasts we often assume our desire and passions are shared by everyone but that is almost never the case. If an amp lasts ten years regardless of the brand of caps within it then to most what difference does it make if it doesn't allow them more power for their dollar? And if, say, Kenwood is doing it or ROckford and you have to price your amp fifty dollars more because of the caps you use you will not sell many people into car audio on higher quality when known name brands feel that lower cost caps are just fine. Maybe D4S should do like Kenwood or JL and offer this regular line amp and a pro line like the the Excelon or Slash series with better components, better specs and a better warranty.

Hey do u think this amp would be good for a Mtx thunder 9500 ? I’m trying to find a amp that would make it hit harder.

Can anyone report noise/hiss level with mids connected with no audio signal? Literally amp on, mids connected, no RCA's, just a battery, remote and speakers. Is there any noise/hiss?

Sooo.. what kind of speakers would you run to take advantage of this ampnin 4 channel mode? Are there any 6x9s that could handle this?
@johnclark3067 Жыл бұрын
Multiple pro audio style speakers. I don't think any individual speakers (except subwoofers) can handle its full output. You can run more power than rms as long as you have a high pass to block bass and don't clip the amp. Then back off if you smell coil or hear compression of dynamic sounds.
