They have adapted to feeding on almost everything from animals and plants to fungi and even microorganism, if something is edible I'm sure at least one species of beetles feeds on it! ;)

God, my home is currently infested with millipedes (currently the yellow spotted one). When I didn't notice their position and accidentally crushed them, they exude a really strong smell of roasted almond and it isn't as nice as you would think. It stinks so bad and it lingers for 15 minutes after the initial contact.
