I wouldn´t put more NVME on the board. Your graphics card is going to be x8... Maximum use is 3xM2. M2_1 for Window -> M2_4 and M2_5 as additional storage. Due to the great USB40 trash they implemented -> we are now back to the lane sharing game of PCIe.

I really like the Rog Strix x870e-e a lot. The bios seems a bit overwheIming. I hope that Asus have sorted out their issues and have made the necessary changes. It is between this mobo and the Taichi 870e that I will choose for my son's gaming rig.

I’ve said it before but I love the level of detail you into on your videos. The most expensive board I have purchased was $450 and I can say that having a higher end mother board does make a big difference. So many quality of life features that enhance your experience. This board seems amazing bro I love it! That buttonless ejection for the gpu is super trippy. I love the simple overclocking tools that you get as well. Fantastic board overall. Since you mentioned using 3 M.2 SSDs on this board I figured I would mention that if you were populating M.2_2 or M.2_3 (two of the M.2 slots above the main x16 slot) that you would be cutting the bandwidth down to x8 for your GPU. Not a massive loss of performance, but I figured it was worth mentioning in case you were unaware. If it does indeed bother you, you can move those 2 SSDs to the bottom M.2 slots (M.2_4 and M.2_5). They will be connected to the chipset(s) so it will add a tiny bit of latency, but at least it wouldn't steal bandwidth from that 4090. Enjoyed the videos and get some rest!

Great review ! I can totally say the feature set on this board and the power delivery and vrm cooling and the post code and the dedicated buttons all make it worth it for me. That’s honestly they packed a ton into this board and it’s indeed what I’d consider an enthusiast board. Myself owning several 500-700$ motherboards over the years I don’t think the price is that bad. Am5 boards in general are already kind of high so this ain’t that far off for what you get.

@@SahajPS Oh boy…. Where do I begin? This ASUS x670e-e of mine has been a borderline nightmare. One of the thing it would do is when I went to go and restart, many times the system will get completely hung up and not even turn over and properly restart and I am forced to either manually power off or reset. When I have to resort to manually resetting or shutting down, often times on the second attempt, the PC would get stuck on code A1 and proceed no further. I would then have to unplugged my power supply and reset my CMOS settings in order for on the third attempt for the computer to usually 100% of the time eventually restart Successfully . Not only that, at least once a month or so the very bottom 4 USB 3.2 ports would lose all functionality and not detect anything being plugged into it. From that point, I would have to go into device manager, go to USB section in device manager and delete all 6 of the bottom USB Root Hubs (USB 3.0) and since I would effectively lose function of mouse and keyboard during this process, I had to go into task scheduler and set a manual restart 15-20 as I need about that amount of time to delete everything from device manager successfully. For a while, the only way I could successful the restart. My computer was shut down, not restart, but just pure shutdown and then turn it back on no matter what I did restart would always fail. I eventually even started unplugging three USB devices and I was eventually able to restart normally (if you call dealing with what I’m dealing with normal lol). That’s about it in a nutshell my guy. Also, for some strange reason, my 2 Corsair RAM DIMMS only lights up prior to loading iCue. But once iCue loads in windows both DIMMS work and respond perfectly to lighting changes. I am planning on getting the x670e-e RMA’d with ASUS once I put in the new x870e-e

This is the first time your channel popped up for me and it was exactly what I was looking for--- a solid deep dive on the hardware and BIOS. Great work, and if there's a Black Friday sale on this I'll take the plunge and someday hopefully find a 9800x3d in a post-scalper universe. I've been an ASUS loyalist for ages and every time I try something different I get a bite in the *ss for my troubles. I tried a Gigabyte board and after a BIOS update it reset my Windows 11 activation. I tried an ASRock board and it will only show the BIOS if there's a monitor plugged into the onboard video, not my GPU. Just stupid sh*t like that that made me think hey, I have never had ridiculous issues like this on an ASUS board.

Shared resources, M.2_2 & M.2_3 slots share bandwidth with PCIEX16(G5). When M.2_2 & M.2_3 are occupied with SSD devices, PCIEX16(G5) will run x8 only.

Hi Eric, good content, very detailed and I get to learn about AEMP, I am puzzled what that does till now, you have explained it hahahah.. thanks.. hmm as for the GPU, the mechanism is superb. when you pull the back of your inserted GPU, the locking mechanism at the front of the PCI-E slot will spring back to unlock position, it's just like us having to press the locking mechanism before unplugging the GPU. so ya. as for the Q-dash board, I do like that too as it takes you to the configuration of whatever you've click to. The only issue I have with it is.. after you press esc, it will not take you back to Q-Dash. I wish in future, asus will have this feature set, that will be perfect. Nevertheless thank you for the review, I've learned a trick or two from you 👍👍👍

Regarding the GPU removal... As far as I know, there isn't much "wiggle room" between the GPU and most cases as far as the expansion slots are concerned. If the tolerances are tight: wouldn't it be necessary to remove the motherboard from the case to get the GPU out? I mean, the is very little room between the "holes" in my O11D case and the screw downs on the GPU.

Great question. I can only speak to my experience so far. I have the 011 Vision with a RTX 4090. I was able to pull the GPU right out with no issues.

I actually am in the process of swapping out my ROG STRIX X670E-E mobo for the Taichi x670e, as my ROG one has been plagued with RAM and USB burning out and driver issues. I'll be keeping a close eye on the x870e-e down the road once prices drop on new cpus and such, if it holds up and is a reliable board it'll likely be my next upgrade.

My research has yielded taichi x670e as being one of the most reliable dual-gpu supporting boards out there with the x670 chipset, so I'm hopeful I won't have repeat problems lol.

The new q-lock is darn smart as it kinda just uses the downforce to lock and when you lay the cabinet/mobo down releases easy just by slightly turning the gpu. But ya 500$ is a lot for a mobo 😧You really have to weigh if all that connectivity and pci-e 5 lanes is needed for your build. I haven't gone thru the details of the board schematics, but I have before with B-550 boards run into problems dependent which USB 3.x connections you have a couple external harddisks on and when initiating a large copy your system becomes almost totally unresponsive during the copy due to resource sharing. which is kinda annoying. Especially Pro users will be excited about finally getting officially USB4/TB support on the new AMD boards

@@ErockOnTech I just had a look and comparement between this and the Hero board and it's funny how there actually is more USB options on this than the Hero that instead have a newer sound Chip (or other one) and an both an (Intel) 2.5Gbe AND a 5 Gbe Realtek Lan. I do like the look of the Hero board a bit better. (the pixelated noise on this is cheezy) they are both about the same price and still can't use the 3 m.2 gen 5 slots without disabling the Pcie 2 slot. kinda meh for that price.

Armory Crate works fine overall. I'll admit, it can be a bit slow sometimes. But once you set your lighting effects to where you want them, you don't need to really open it. A lot of the same features can be done in the bios as well. So that is also an option.

I have not heard of that issue and I have not experienced that myself. Now the PCIe lanes can be cut down from x16 to x8 depending on how many M.2s you install. It’s called lane sharing.

After shopping new gen Threadripper components that last few days, the somewhat overpriced AM5 boards look quite sane. I'm seriously conflicted though. I have the need and use case for Threadripper-levels of production, but damn if I want to drop a small fortune to upgrade the whole platform. Last gen TR would still be quite useable for me, but not having all the gen5 bells and whistles for max throughput on storage and multi-gpu bandwidth, I know I'd kick my own butt into Regret Valley. Neither last gen TR or current are exactly 'cheap', but last gen is like half price, and there's a ton of components I already have other than processor and board I can move over. New gen would be everything new.

No, only M_2.2 and M_2.3 slots share bandwitch with GPU (either GPU PCIe 5.0 x16 or shared GPU PCIe 5.0 x8, M_2.2 5.0 x4 and M_2.3 5.0 x4). M_2.1 is free for the PCIe 5.0 x4 and M_2.4/2.5 run PCIe 4.0 x4 each.

Please help, my computer crashes when I play intensive games like cyberpunk 2077. I have an AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, an MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk Wi-Fi Motherboard, and I stupidly purchased Kingston Fury 5200 MT/s DDR5 non-EXPO version RAM. Should I upgrade my BIOS to fix this or purchase EXPO version RAM? please help 🙏 🙏 🙏

Always update your bios and windows and GPU drivers to ensure all is well with your system first. After that, you can try tweaking some things. To be honest with you, this is such a vague issue that it could be any number of issues causing your crashing. However, I will be honest with you. Those MSI Tomahawk boards have not been well received. With that said, double check your QVL and make sure your RAM is on the list. Also, update your CPU chipset drivers. Also, make sure your CPU and GPU temps are not too high.

This is all well and good but in common with most other reviewers you make no mention of how most of this crop X870[E] boards - this board included - are crippled by the very poorly implemented PCIE bifurcation. Shame, but I suggest you look elsewhere everyone!!!

@@ErockOnTech yes i watched it all and gratz on the effort you put in. Thumbs up. As someone has made you aware below, which is the point im making, if you add a second m.2 drive to slots 2 or 3 the GPU drops to X8. As much as i like this board i dont see that limitation as an advantage for the price. Im looking for a new home for my 4090 which will become a 5090 when released hence the Asrock board, this has no such limitation and is $150 less ,which is awesome. Again, great review, but im just not convinced by the design decision made by Asus for such a high end costly mobo. Are you?

@@simplysimon966Honestly, I got this board and one other Asus board sent to me for review. Then I spent the better part of a week and some change with my head buried in trying to film and produce the videos. I haven’t had hardly any time at all to consider other boards. I only recently discovered that the Asrock board doesn’t cause you to share lanes. But that’s literally all I know about it. I need to research it more to be honest. If I had to make a guess, I would say Asus likely favored other features as benefits over the lane sharing. Then Asrock likely favored the non lane sharing above other features that I assume Asus has that Asrock doesn’t. But again, that is a guess. I need to do more research. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.

Lol what? $500 motherboards are very common these days. But there are cheaper boards available as well. But no motherboard comes with all of the stuff you listed there.

I got mine for 560 on new egg with free 32gb ddr5 ram and two years of coverage so I can't complain.

Even you said it was expensive (not common) I know how people can fool self into buying something they do not really need but WANT. You are a wanter they are pretty common too. Does not mean its smart, its emotional.
