Personally I think that Nate has a real strong controlling personality, which shows his worst side especially with Andy. When she’s finally getting somewhere successfully in her career he can’t stand the idea of her upgrading her life, like going to new places, meeting new people, changing her appearance (the glow up), etc. He just wants to control her and keep her to himself, even if that means that she doesn’t fulfill her career and her personal goals 😬 So yeah, he’s awful 🤣 and also her friend (not Doug tho, he kinda understand that world)

Yeah, I have to agree with y'all about the boyfriend. I mean, yeah, Andy changed, but she didn't become a horrible person. She even felt bad about the whole thing with Emily and Paris. Oh, and his complaining about her long hours? I'm sorry? What was his job again? A chef? In New York City?! Yeah, no long hours in that profession. Nope. Straight up 9 to 5. 🙄 Okay, rant over. Forgive my wordiness. I'm a writer. 😊

Allow me to put the hurricane problem in perspective: We've all seen Mirandas job is her whole life, even over her marriage and children. So whenever she gets a chance to make time for them, of course it would be important for her. THAT'S what Miranda's really upset about. And she DID go easy on her for not pulling it off: she didnt fire her.

Just one more comment...it also makes me crazy that Emily is surprised and angry at Andie for going to Paris. She knows what it is like to work at Runway and specifically what it is like working for Miranda. Did she really expect Andie to basically be fired (or at least blacklisted) for turning down such a great opportunity? Especially for someone who has been horrible and rude to her 99% of the time they worked together. She knows she has been screwing up lately, but didn't think that Miranda would punish her some way for it? Also, if the roles were reversed I cannot see Emily turning down Paris for a co-worker. Anyway, love this movie and loved the reaction!

what’s sad is that in the book her boy friend is a teacher and such a living and caring person. He helps her move, encourages her in her every move and sadly this representation is just sooo of base. Plus there’s a whole section of the book dedicated to her friend Lily and how their lives are intertwined and mirrors of the other! Highly recommend the book 💐

I made a whole monologue on the American flag based off the sweater monologue: Oh, okay, I see what's going on here, you think this is all a bunch of bullshit. You… go to your desk, and you have… I don’t know, a tiny little American flag standee, for instance, because you’re trying to tell the world that you're all about American pride, but what you don’t know is that that little flag is not just any American flag, it’s not the confederate flag, it’s not the original 13 colony flag, it’s the flag from the 1960s. First it was Betsy Ross was who was paid by the Navy to make flags, and then it was a socialist named Frances Bellamy, wasn’t it?… who wrote the Pledge of Allegiance as a marketing campaign to sell more flags. And then flags quickly started to show up hanging on flag poles and inside school classrooms along with that same pledge of allegiance. Then it filtered down into being protected by offical government laws, and then trickled on down into some tragic tourist destination where you, no doubt, plucked it out of some cutesy little gift shop proudly proclaiming made in America. However, that flag represents millions of dollars of countless jobs, and it will never stop being funny how you think that you’re showing pride for something that declares you exempt from being duped by the advertising industry, when in fact, you’re displaying a flag that was selected for you by the people in this room… from a bunch of “bullshit.”

I have never liked Nate. Can someone please explain to me what he even means when he tells her that he would support her pole dancing as long as she did it with some integrity?!? Like, what? The only thing that changed about her is her attitude toward her job and doing what she needed to, to make it at a fashion magazine. And again, like you both said, it is just for a year. Suck it up. It is so refreshing that you both dislike him. I don't get reactors who side with Nate. He is a selfish, spoiled, a-hole. Also, every single member of her group (boyfriend and her two friends) are trying to make it in very competitive careers in NYC. They should all understand working long hours to make your mark in your chosen profession. I doubt her one friend or Nate would be as available to hang out and criticize her, while they are trying to make it in the art world and as a chef in NYC. They would also be working long weird hours for horrible demanding people. Also, it's not like they are in careers that are SO IMPORTANT and doing good for the world, but yet they pick on Andie.
