What does a classified MI-8 Helicopter, a snowy mountain range in Afghanistan, and a burnt and frozen Russian pilot all have in common? The answer's classified, but fortunately we've got a PJ to fill in the blanks. Air Force Pararescueman Brandon Daugherty recalls an odd deployment story of a missing helicopter gone wrong in this exclusive clip from Episode #182 of the Mike Drop Podcast.

It's unreal how PJs are top tier operators yet you rarely see anyone talk about them and their service.

A lot of that is by preference. Quiet professional has a significant meaning to PJs as well as CCT. That and there are only ruffly about 500 PJs.that is about 25% of the Navy Seals. Most seals don't like public either. I am glad they do. Especially, Mike. His podcast and guest are all the Ace of Spades.😊

This is real. I worked as medic with Department of State Contracts under a International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INLA) contract, in Afghanistan doing Poppy Eradication and Counter Narcotics. The group was generally made up of a expat team lead, comms and medic along with about 50 ANA or AP's. We would be inserted by MI 8's usually flown by Ukrainian pilots to go after refiners of poppy. Most of missions were southern Afghanistan near Lashkar Gah and Kandahar which was primarily a British AO when I was there.

How did the Taliban taking power affect the opium trade/heroin production? Didn't they abolish the crop in the past? Are they able to enforce it? Are they even relevant now that Chinese fentanyl or even nitazene derivates have taken hold? Lots of questions, I know you maybe aren't even able to talk about it, but I wrote my finals about med/substance abuse when qualifying for the pharmacy- even though I left the field I am still interested in it and you seem to be the guy with some interesting answers.

On The Team House podcast there was a CIA Air Branch officer who said they had mi-8's in their inventory mainly because the afghans dont have the same reaction to mi8's that they do to American choppers.

I'm sorry but this gentleman and I use the term loesly for a number of reasons first and foremost he starts with a major breach of security related to the operation second he Hollywood's his portrayal of the opp thirdly he threw his team and Comand under the bus buy crying about his right up clearly by his comments about the hole operation he was low man on the team if he was first man on the ground his primary function was to provide security his story was Al over the place he went from half the team went two different derection he stated him and a buddy free climbing up the mountain then it turns that three went up to surch the crash site were they found the pilot then two bodies were found below and him and his buddy's recovered the pilots body yet he made no mention how the remains were moved below to the rest of his team for recovery he proceeded to explain how the remains were hoisted up yet he was tasked with providing security with a weapon on the high ground but besides his brech of security with the whole opp then his Hollywood script he breach the biggest insult of all with as he stated in his own words regardless of the country in battle and I enfisize all remains are treated with respect and dignity that they so rightly deserve so I say to you and your glorified Hollywood script if you were on security as you claim you were first man out and last man out and your sole purpose was to provide security nothing more nothing less and if you were written up I think it speaks volumes about your ability as a soldier as a whole and I am willing to bet your career came to a screeching halt following this so called opp if not for outher reasons

Total BS story. His alleged sequence of events is confusing. If this guy was an actual PJ, he at some point in his career signed a DNF - of which he has just violated. Now how exactly did the US State Department know about his helicopter and the general vicinity of where it crashed? The thing about "stories" is when the speaker is talking from actual experience, the story normally comes out organized and in sequence. You fabricate/lie/etc., the story is jumbled (as in this case). The easy check is stop the story teller at some point and ask him to repeat a particular portion of the story. If it stays true to their original comments it's probably pretty close to the truth, if it doesn't it is probably made up. You know it's all BS when he tells you he started ditching his kit.

That's BS. Nobody is able to tell the same story to a 100 percent accuracy time and time again. That is why eyewitnesses are not as accurate as we'd like.
