I personally found it to be distasteful at a few points thru the video. When you expressed your lack of certain knowledge regarding epiphone guitars i perceived that as not so much a lack of information regarding the brand but more so a general unwillingness to take in the available information due to (in my opinion at least) its perceived lack of value wether it monetary or quality. Hope I was articulate enough, cool guitar.

The man is a Gibson enthusiast and something of an expert. His enthusiasm naturally leads to some crossover with Epiphone. Making no claims to expertise in Epiphone is just honesty. Experts tend to have a narrow field; it's the nature of the beast. Cut the man some slack.

Greetings and salutations Austin! My local music shop has a new Epiphone Riviera which just recently arrived after having been ordered two years ago, but it got held up off the coast of California due to the pandemic so it is actually a 2019 model, and it has coil splits for each pickup. It also has a more ornate headstock as well as a set of Grover’s. It has a gloss black finish and I am not sure about the fretboard wood, but it too, may have the Indian Laurel. I currently have on layaway, an Epiphone Prophecy Les Paul with the olive sunburst, that I am purchasing from the shop now, but may pick up the Riviera later on this year. Thank you for posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨

I've decided I'm normal Riviera over this signature model. The pickups are the deciding factor. The mini humbuckers are pretty much what define the Riviera. I also dig the frequensator tailpiece. You stick in humbuckers and a regular stop tailpiece and it's just another ES-335 derivative

It had someone’s sweat smudges all over and a few light scratches , I got a decent discount on it , I put Gibson 9/42 Bright wire strings and did a full setup on it , I own the 2 Epi rivieras royal tan and the burgundy ones , this one definitely feels and sounds very different and is a pound heavier at 8lb 13 Oz. It’s a beautiful guitar after I buffed out the scratches and polished it up. I ordered mine on the release day and Zzounds was sold out 2 days later. The tuners are ok once you tighten the button screws and stays in tune pretty well, gonna keep it stock.

I bought this Epiphone Wildkat in 2014.Wildkat, one of the best Epiphone creations in the field of archtop guitars is back once again. Now, in 2014, a very limited edition of the Wine Red Wildkat is available through selected dealers of Epiphone Guitars. This limited edition six-stringer comes in a distinguished Wine Red color scheme with gloss finish, nickel plating on the hardware and creme binding around the neck and body. Semi hollow and single cut, the body of this beauty rocks the solid mahogany base with a flamed maple top, the classic Gibson/Epiphone combo (neck is also made of mahogany). Locktone tune-o-matic bridge is combined with the licensed B70 Bigsby vibrato tailpiece. In the front, Epiphone`s classic Dogear P-90s are in charge of the amplification. Master volume, two separate volume knobs (bridge and neck), master tone switch and a three-way toggle pickup switch comprise the controls. Slim taper-contoured neck is topped with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. Grover tuners on the classic headstock complete the specs list.

I ended up buying this guitar and it's outstanding. I'm not an Oasis fanboy at all, but I realized that I wasn't going to be able to justify spending the money on a Gibson 335 and this seemed like a really solid, affordable alternative. The sound from the pickups has such a nice texture to it, the feel of the neck is very natural and the overall quality is just superb. I was initially bothered by the blatant "Made In China" sticker, but once you're playing the guitar you never even think about it. I've started digging into some old Oasis records and I like it. Noel had a quote in another promo video for this guitar where he says "I'm not a guitar player, I'm a songwriter" meaning he's not a super technical shredder, and that statement really hit me. So happy with this guitar - my first Epiphone - I would highly recommend this wonderful beast!

I have two weird epiphones man. One is an 04-05 LP classic. Nothing fancy until you see the maple top. It’s got a very small burst but that’s not what’s strange. It’s the color. It’s black with a grey burst in the center. Also what’s strange is the headstock isnt one of those shoe shaped ones or the bulky “toy like” thick ones it’s like what the epi headstocks should’ve been for the time. Now the second one is a 95 jc200 nothing crazy EXCEPT the headstock is the same exact one on my les Paul. It isn’t the shoe shaped one it looks like the electric one. I looked up the serial number and it’s the 16th one ever made but that’s the strange part. It’s got Apollonia inlays AND it’s got the crown inlay on the headstock that you usually find on gibbons it’s still an enigma to me and it’s got a flames maple neck. I found it in a pawn shop in sulphur springs Texas for like 400 bucks with a case included free, near mint. Very strange.

I got one and I agree with everything you said - great comprehensive review. I'll add, even though they are CTS pots, they feel like shit. Not very fluid and one is fighting me every time it passes by the metal pointer guide. That is annoying for how much I paid. Really wish the fretboard was rosewood for what I paid too, but I also got a really nice version of the Indian laurel, looks better than any Fender I can tell you that. You almost don't notice it, but if it was truly recreating Noel's it would be rosewood. Fully agreed on the pickups as well - I bought it to play Oasis and I'm not convinced that I'm getting the articulation needed from note to note, especially the highs. I raised the pickups on the treble side, but it didn't have as much effect as I wanted. The pickups are far too even and muddy, they need some bite and clarity if you ask me. I'd love to know what pickups were actually in Noel's 80's Epipohone MIJ.

Pictures and video seem to never do the finish of a guitar justice. I bought a Gibson Les Paul Alex Lifeson Axcess in Viceroy Brown. I saw it in person and it put the pictures I saw to shame. This guitar has the same vibe. The color, the figuring in the wood and the polish job that it has. That’s a gem and it sound good as well. Not very many guitars left that I want that don’t break the bank. My wife says if you want a Burst I’ll have to sell my plane. Well then I may as well by 20 of them if I do that. Great channel, great videos. Always look forward to the new episode.

If your Korean-made Casino’s serial number starts with R, it’s very good guitar. It’s made in Peerlessguitar factory in South Korea.

@@kenichi407 Weird, I've never seen binding glitches. I have about 4 Cherry, 6 Natural, 2 Black. They're all very consistent and QC is off the map. The Saen plant made some beauties, too. They won the award that one year and seemed to hold their work up to a certain standard as a result.

I love the idea that it has a volute. Gibson should do the same with their guitars, would save players a lot of money and headaches from headstock breaks, plus the volute really looks good, much better than the Gibson unsupported headstock/neck.🙂

It has a volute cos it’s modeled after Noel’s ‘83 Matsumoku Riviera, which had one.

Unless you are a collector, a professional musician, or have money to burn, it makes little sense at this point as a player to get a Gibson over it's modern day Epiphone equivalent. Is the Gibson better, I am sure it is. Is the Gibson 335 model $2500-$3000 better in terms of sound or playability? Absolutely not. I have four Epiphone's and I love them all. Even counting the $500 I spent on my Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro, all four of my guitars still cost less than a new Gibson Les Paul Special. For me, even if I had the money to get a high end Gibson, as a non collector, I feel my money would be better spent getting similarly priced ESP or a PRS.

Yeah, I've had two of the 'new generation' epiphones and they've both been totally worth the money. Unfortunately I have neither anymore due to moving and getting rid of like half my collection, but the Firebird and the 50's Les Paul were extremely adequate guitars. The only complaint I had was that whatever rosewood substitute they use for the fretboard just feels super dry no matter how much you oil that thing and the frets comes from the factory weirdly scratchy. You can play that in and it's fine.
@jamesnewton4852 жыл бұрын
@@HeelBJC Fretboard is pao ferro. My only issue is its a little light in color but its no big deal. I'd never heard of pau ferro before and researched it before buying and found out Fender has been using it for years.

@@bushcry1 Really versatile guitar with the split coil pickups. I almost bought an ESP but went with the Epiphone because you can split the humbuckers independently of each other. With the ESP you couldn't split only the neck or only the bridge.

not that tone cap type make that big of a difference on a guitar tone pot, but in amps i build i actually prefer the red xicon caps over orange drops. orange drops or generally for hi fi stuff at least that what i was taught by the old timer that taught me.i even pulled orange drops out of a used build amp i bought i put red xicon in them and its a killer amp.

I prefer an Ebony 335 over a walnut stain, so I actually like this darker model. Did you say thin tapered C? I like more chunk. But it definitely seems worth it’s cost and then some. I’d have to play it in person to really get a sense for the clean tones. If the waffles had cream knobs it would be even more appealing for me.

Nice review but please stop comparing this guitar to a gibson. It's not trying to be a gibson it's an epiphone! Oasis were famous for using Epiphones when they first got big here in the UK ands us British guitarists lusted after them because we wanted to look and sound like Oasis at the time. 335's are great guitars but they are different and shouldn't be compared to Sheartons, Riviera's and Casino's because they are their own thing not cheaper copies of Gibsons. For that see the Epiphone Dot.

Nice guitar, I didn’t think is sounded that bad. Nice clean tones and the distortion maybe was too much for those pickups. It was a little muddy. Edge of breakup might sound better. Nice American woman tribute although Randy Bachman plays a Gretsch which is also a hollow body.

I'd be all in if not for the fisheye in the finish and the bleed over on the binding. My Gretsch costs the same $ and it's flawless.
