I'm glad Nintendo is finally sticking to a product that works and is wildly popular to everyone of all ages. I grew up a Nintendo kid and I've owned every console since the SNES. but my main gripe with Nintendo consoles was that every new generation console after the gamecube had to be some kind of quarky gimmick. Nintendo is clearly anxious to avoid making the same mistake they did with the Wii U by failing to distinguish it from its predecessor. By adding 2, there’s no question that this is the successor. It’s not the most creative name, but with Sony now on their fifth console that’s followed a similar naming convention, it doesn’t seem like a poor marketing choice.

I don't understand the hate for the Switch 2's name, either. Nobody complained about the PlayStation 2's name. Some people will complain about anything, and Nintendo fans are notoriously fickle. As far as I'm concerned, the less you have to think about a name the better. They need to stick with the Switch branding, because it's their most popular home console ever, and they need to make it clear that this is a generational upgrade. The Switch 2 will probably be revealed on January 8th 2025. Rumours say the console will have a 9 in the launch title and that could be Mario Kart 9. It could launch with 32 tracks and no crossover characters and get DLC packs adding crossover characters and double up the tracks to 48. It’s weird that the Blue Falcon is in the series but Captain Falcon isn’t. So why don’t they come in form of the DLC? I want them to ditch the metal characters, Cat Peach, Tanooki Mario, Peachette, the Blooper Item and Coin Item, make the Koopalings alts for Bowser Jr., the baby characters alt’s for each other, Dry Bowser an alt for Bowser, bring the Fake Item Box, Mega Mushroom, Pow Block, Super Leaf and the Ice Flower back, add commentary as the Arcade GP series has it, bring Mission Mode back as it was supposed to return in Wii and add Professor E. Gadd since he was going to be in DS. By March 2026, we could get a new 3D Kirby game, possibly a Sequel to Forgotten Land. We could get to see playable Elfilin and Clawroline for the first time and they could bring back the Dream Palace Allies as well. Halfway through 2026, we could get Splatoon 4 and Pikmin 5, and by the end of the year, we could get Super Smash Bros. 6 and hopefully they’ll ditch World of Light, bring Subspace Emissary back and update the movesets of some characters. We could get Super Mario Maker 3, Luigi’s Mansion 4 and a successor to Super Mario Party Jamboree by 2027 as it’s been 5 years since we had Super Mario Maker 2 and Luigi’s Mansion 3. They could add a Mario Wonder game style to Super Mario Maker 3 so 3D World isn’t just the extra game style and they could bring the Amiibo costumes and the Weird Mushroom back, for Luigi’s Mansion 4, the game could be in an Airbnb and we might get to see Luigi save Daisy for the first time in the series and for the successor to Jamboree, everyone from the previous Mario Party entries could return like how everyone returned for Smash Ultimate. By 2028, we could get a successor to Paper Mario: The Origami King, considering a 4 year gap between that game and the TTYD remake. I hope the console sells well. I probably won’t get it day one, or maybe not at all. I might wait for Smash 6 to be announced and then get the console with Mario Kart and get other games later on.

I believe sticking to Switch branding is necessary for keeping the current Switch customer-base on board. Young ones with tighter budgets are going to stay with their current, or cheaper devices still for a couple of years, until an upgrade becomes desirable or absolutely necessary. Also, customers want to have backwards compatibility with the games they already own. Switch 2 or preferably Super Switch is the way to go!

I said this on Nin10doLand’s video discussing this topic, so I’ll share it here too; My thoughts on it, just indifferent. I’d personally prefer it if Nintendo shot down the leakers claiming that the “Nintendo Switch Successor’s” actual name being “Nintendo Switch 2” and have it named something different and unique, one I thought of is “Nintendo Connect”. Because based on the “rumors” claiming that the new Joy-Cons for their next console would be magnetic, I thought naming it “Connect” could easily fit into the console’s gimmick/theme. I don’t trust any recent leaks about Nintendo’s products/software, no matter how reliable they are, and just wait until official word comes out from Nintendo themselves.

The stupidity of people online never stops surprising me. People complain about backwards compatibility, about how Nintendo tries too hard on gimmicks and how the switch is ancient underpowered technology, Nintendo now does an upgraded system that keeps the gimmicks and works with the same library system, but people don't want it branded as such? The only reason why people want it named Super Switch is because of Super Nintendo, but Nintendo has never been one to reuse naming themes. As long as the Switch 2 can help fix the frame rate of Scarlet, and Violet. I don't care what it's called. Plus Samsung has been doing this number naming also. Samasung S3, Samsung S4, Samsung S5, Samsung S6, Samsung S7, Samsung S8, Samsung S9, Samsung S10. Than we skip alot and head to the S21, so on amd so forth.

Here’s the thing the console looks like the switch 1 so makes sense to me to call it a switch 2 and would not make sense to call it an entirely a different name. No different than ps2,2,3,4,5
