I'm seriously impressed by your perseverance. It was also a fun video to watch. It must be especially difficult attempting a repair such as this without a schematic. But tell me, if an electronics shop took an equal amount of time to perform this repair, how much would it have cost? To me, this is proof that handheld electronics like this are in practice disposable items -- keep 'em for the duration of the warranty, and then replace.

I think the weird reading you were getting on the last resistor was due to the small voltage that the meter puts out, when reading ohms, might have been switching the "mosfet" on and off creating that fluctuating ohm reading. Just my guess anyway thank you for another wonderful video

Vince just a couple of tips for you. when soldiering IC use more flux, then the chip will pull into place. Secondly when cleaning the circuit board do not quench it with IPA the rapid change in temperature can cause ceramic capacitors and other components like IC to microfracture, always allow the circuit board to cool down first. I see many KZbinrs do this and it's not the correct way.🙂

Great job with that chip Vince. After spending a couple of hours trying to change thumbsticks on an Xbox controller I've figured out the problem. I was using a cheap (under GB£6) soldering iron, when I used my lovely Yihua soldering iron the job was so much easier. Lesson learnt for me: use decent quality tools🤣🤣 The Yihua was £40 and my hot air station was £30, so not silly money, and they both work great.

Nice fix, Vince :) You can heat the board from under M92 if you are afraid of knocking over some components. And i use a lot of flux to keep it there until the board heats up. That goes for the USBC port, too. Charging issues can also be solved by replacing the BQ chip.

Great job Vince. Proves having a spare around is not a bad idea. Those tiny resistors don't show any signs of physical damage painted black like that. The old through hole types were much easier to spot the damage from overheating, with the manufacturers having mostly used lighter shades of colour. Imo just using the colour black for smd resistors is a poor choice. Probably would be better if they were painted white with black values written on them.
