I agree and believe we have the answers to our questions within us. Tip: towards the end of a MP session, start writing TO yourself using your name as if you were giving advice to someone you care about. Sounds crazy, but it works for me when I do it.

I've been writing Morning Pages for over 10 years - 3 handwritten pages each early morning - it really helps 'flush' thoughts and emotions out and helps me to better understand Life -- I high recommend "The Right to Write" by Julia Cameron -- who also wrote "The Artist's Way" -- it is a terrific habit to implement! Cheers from Texas !

I always tell people about this habit that I also have. some pages are so very boring, but there are some that are so raw. I love my notebooks, but I always end up destroying them once filled. I re-write anything worth keeping in a separate journal.

That’s a great idea. I’ve burned some of my journals in the past, and found it freeing… but I regretted that I lost some good entries. Next time, I’ll copy the good stuff over.

I always feel like I'm missing something in the ordinary/mundane. There is so much wisdom to be gained from every single page (sometimes even years later), BUT I bet destroying and rewriting saves a lot of space in the long run hahaha!

When I write morning pages I prefer the rule of writing 3 A4-pages instead of a time limit of 30 minutes. Then, when I'm stuck I have time to think/reflect - that works better for me and now that it has become a routine, it takes 20-30 minutes per day ❤

I have a suggestion for you, if you’re interested. Go back through your journal entries with two highlighters. One to highlight insights, one to highlight actions needed. I got this idea from The Artist’s Way. If you have years worth, maybe only go back a couple of months. You’ll be surprised at the patterns that emerge.
@yasarheidt
@yasarheidt Ай бұрын
Great suggestion! I'd pretty much say the same: you have to work with what you've written. Morning pages are so powerful because they change the trajectory of your day. Regular journaling, on the other hand, would just be reflecting on the past for me. The pages won't magically make you a different person; they simply show you what you already know and what you need to implement.

@@The_Winsome_Pixie I really love this suggestion as my journals going back years feel like ground hog day with same struggles over and over. That is why I have stopped and started many times. It becomes proof of little to no progress.

@@energysourcelove More than happy to share. I’m passionate about my MPs. :) Sorry if this is long. I’ll split it over a couple of entries. 1. Find a time that works best for you. We deal with enough stress with ADHD already. If you’re a night owl, Night Pages might be a better fit for you. That said, I prefer the quiet morning before other people are up and before I get swept up in the chaos. If I can’t do it then, I get to it later. Your mindset can make or break you here, and flexibility helps. 2. Set a daily reminder on your phone, put your journal somewhere you’ll see it, or put up a posted note. Visual cues at least until you establish the habit (but I still need them now, since one change in my routine and I seem to forget Morning Pages ever existed lol ) 3. Set a (visual) timer. How useful this is depends on how much time blindness is a factor for you, but it can also help our dopamine-deprived selves take heart that it’ll be over in x amount of minutes. The Artist’s Way suggests 3 letter-sized pages in 30 minutes. Personally, I need more time some days.
@The_Winsome_Pixie
@The_Winsome_Pixie Ай бұрын
@@energysourcelove 4. Don’t read previous entries before you write. You’ll get sucked down a distraction rabbit hole. If I read them it’s infrequently and to see patterns and insights. 5. Remember just showing up is far more important than the number of pages you write. If you can’t bring yourself to write three pages one day, don’t. Praise yourself when you do, forgive yourself when you don’t. You need pleasant experiences to encourage you to continue. Also, don’t be afraid if you skip a day (or two). You’ll know the difference between a legitimate reason from an excuse. 6. Try not to edit yourself too much. That’s good advice for anyone, actually. Sometimes you’ll write total, repetitive crap. Maybe most of the time. But sometimes you’ll write life-changing nuggets of gold. The key is just to move forward without expectations or judgement.
