Nice 740! Just be careful spraying brake/carb cleaner over a hot engine to find air leaks. I find it to be more safe to use (warm) water with one of those spray bottles, that way you can also find broken ignition parts rather quickly (they'll spark more when wet).

the b230K you have here has the carb that most Volvo enthusiast hate. they are hard to get running good when they start to fail. and in sweden we often change them to an weber 32/36 or an 36/36 or an carb(+ the intake) from an b230A.
@general_ascona Жыл бұрын
it's already converted to a Weber though, and I agree, the factory fitted Pierburgs can be really troublesome

I have a 1988 740 GLE that belonged to my gran. I have all the original paperwork including the handwritten bill of sale written in pencil from a dealership in New Jersey. Absolutely love the car. It has less than 60K miles. I also own a 1993 240 wagon and while I love it also the two cars aren’t even close to equal. While the 240 is way more robust and durable, the 740 is such a pleasure to drive. Ride and handling and noise are so much better. It also turns heads wherever it goes. It just has a presence.

Nice to see you take care of the old Volvos. Here where I live in Sweden, some is just ruining them and then scrap or destroy it completly. So no spare parts left. But ofcourse there's pepole that's taking care of them too here. But feels like it ain't as common unfortunately. But I don't know to fully. But feels like they will get mega rare pretty soon.

When dissimilar metals ( alloy and steel) fuse, soak the studs with vinegar or any acidic solution. On vertical surfaces even tomato sauce. WD 40 etc does will not break the seal.

I wonder, 32 years ago up in northern Sweden, someone's dog found something in the vicinity of a road, a finger. That ended up in the local paper and later on someone from the same area contacted the paper to tell them that is was his finger. It turned out that he had some trouble with his car's engine and so the fan belt took his finger. The guy threw the finger away (due to exasperation/chock ?) So please be very careful while working with old cars ..... they don't have any safety barriers at all !
