The story behind this song/album is so deep. Pink is the main character of both. He lost his father during WWII, had an overbearing mother, became a rock star but never found happiness or himself. You real should watch the movie. It's visually stunning and extremely well made. I've watched it at least 100 times and never get tired of it. I think you would really like it but it is emotional.

Congratulations once again for being just about the only person on KZbin to understand the lyrics. Most people think it's a song about a good mother which baffles me. The album is a story and it's performed in a very theatrical style, there is of course a movie of the album and deals with the things that happen to protagonist are very like the sort of things you would normally see in a screenplay.

Like so many other Pink Floyd songs it’s layered and complex though. It’s people living lives through tumult beyond their control and doing what they can to survive. Her husband was killed, her son nearly died from an illness as a child. She became overprotective. The amount of judgment dished out is almost as annoying as the people who don’t understand the song lyrics.

The mother's voice in the song is like a subconscious admssion of what she's doing to the kid. She thinks she's helping, but she's really hurting. Best authentic reaction. Pink Floyd's writer at this time, Roger Waters wrote a double album about how he (or anyone) ends up with a wall around themselves, alienated from everything around them. This song explores one of the contributing factors towards how he got to this lonely place. Very sad, but it is mostly autobiographical.

Don't let anyone tell you this is just a song. The whole album "The Wall" is Roger Waters' neurotic life laid bare. Like an all-access journey through his memories, his worst fears, his deepest regrets, his guilt, his darkest thoughts. An examination of his self-isolation and the reasoning behind it. These songs are snippets from it. Scenes from a movie. You need to hear the whole thing from start to finish. It's life-changing, truly. There is actually a movie version, but I prefer just the unedited audio on it's own. The focus, combined with your own thoughts, is better than the movie in my opinion.

None of Pink Floyd's music are just songs. If you grew up during the Cold War, you would understand what they were talking about when they said drop the bomb. We were constantly reminded of the threat of nuclear war. Children in schools did Duck and Cover drills to increase the chance of survival if and when THE bomb was dropped. The news constantly spoke of missile gaps, bomb gaps, etc telling us the Soviets had more weapons than us.
@CaptainNemo17012 жыл бұрын
The Wall is a semi-autobiographical work part based on Roger Waters childhood. The song 'Comfortably Numb' refers to an incident on tour where Roger was taken ill and was given a drug to get him on stage but a side-effect was to make his hands 'swell like balloons' so guitar playing was difficult. The live version in the Pulse 1994 tour is widely thought to be one of the greatest guitar solos of all time. Another Brick in the Wall gave Pink Floyd a no.1 UK chart hit back in 1979 and a movie followed starring Boomtown Rats frontman Bob Geldof as 'Pink'. Years later Geldof achieved greater fame by organising Live Aid 1985 & Live 8 2005. For the latter, he achieved the impossible...getting Floyd back together with Waters.

As someone (or multiple others) said, you get it. And, I think you're the first reactor I've seen to do that straight away. There are parents (perhaps especially mothers?) who wrap their children up in metaphorical cotton wool, and by doing so, suffocate them, emotionally, spiritually and/or mentally. In the context of The Wall, and its main lyricist's upbringing (his father died in WWII), it's perhaps slightly more understandable from the perspective of a solo parent to do that. But also, there's the potential that the mother is actually doing it for selfish reasons. They fear loneliness, if their only child leaves them to live their own life.
