I recommend the "Pocketmod" booklet fold. One sheet of paper, four folds, and one cut creates an 8 page booklet. Put your goal summary on the front, then seven pages remain for each day of the week.

You if you wanna write a book, you need goals in front of your 500 words x 2 daily. It’s an excellent stage 2 goal, and will get you there. But you must have some kind of planning or prep, even if you are a discovery writer. Generating 500 words is hardest for those who have no sense of what they are writing about, on any given day. Make a mind map, of themes, topics, or even characters, inciting incident etc and write to that. If you’re a discovery writer, map out your starting vision and launch point. Re-plan as more emerges. Don’t sit down cold with 500 word goals, because the frustration is harmful to your commitment. The vast majority of completers in long form writing, are also pre planners.
@crystalbryant8465
@crystalbryant8465 Жыл бұрын
There is a big difference between writing fiction, and non-fiction. Non-fiction is very actionable and straight forward, while you are correct about fiction. Sitting down and writing 500 words can be tricky. And some people need to keep going when they are in a flow state. So it's okay to block out your days with only one action per day. Change according to your individual needs.
@lizziebkennedy7505
@lizziebkennedy7505 Жыл бұрын
@@crystalbryant8465 thanks, I publish both, and I teach an MFA program. The literary nature is irrelevant to the generation of words on the page. Processes to complete a draft are the same fundamental grunt work regardless of genre. Even poets need to get text written, in order to go on to the next stage. This process applies regardless of what you are writing or any genre/hybrid/form. In my 30 years of teaching writing, I’ve seen who gets “blocked” and who doesn’t, and who gets through it, and who doesn’t. It’s as simple as having a broken down generation source, of knowing what your launch point is that day. Books get written by sentences, even words, at a time. Inspo is great. Labour is what gets the work done. If, of course, that is your real goal.

Since this is a daily exercise, I think he was giving an example of any given day in your journey, not necessarily the very beginning of working on your goals using this method. This could be a typical day in the second or third month of your journey. The preparation may have already happened way before.

Why fold the paper? It makes it feel smaller but could have just made a grid or list? Is this just to be habit forming and reducing as once folded the paper doesn’t stay still or as fileable. The habits from goals is totally worth it though. Some goals do take time to think of a habit - like hit monthly sales target, is that calls, deals, …

I tried this. I would appreciate it if you could let me know what you think of this: What are your top 3 priorities for the day? 1. Fitness: 2. Money: 3. Money: Check this again at 9:30 am. Why are they important? 1. 2. 3. How much money will be produced by achieving them? 1. 2. 3. Review your schedule and make any necessary adjustments. Write down meetings or appointments and their goals. Write down questions before calling then answers before calling. Who can you connect with for advice on achieving your goals? 1. 2. 3. Share your progress and goals with a team member or friend at 10:00 am. Specific actions to move closer to your objectives: 1. 2. 3.

Read “Atomic Habits”, by James L. Clear. It will clarify how habits work (both good and bad), how to form good habits, and how to break bad habits. As the author says, “We do not rise to the level of our goals. We fall to the level of our systems.” As someone who has been finding ways to work around ADHD for decades, this was the single most valuable book I’ve read.

From my study and experience, this is not a todo list. This is more like a clear " most important thing(s) " habits structure. This is the one to three things that I must do, superseding anything else that I am not obligated to do---and in some cases even those things too. In the video he hints at but doesn't illustrate the scheduling part of the habit --- when and where do you do each important thing each day. Nothing gets done if I don't schedule it. Those two things raise this idea above the level of the useless todo list.
