This is exactly what our trainer teaches us when riding horses. Whatever happens it's your fault. And when I started thinking the same way when training dogs it really have helped me.

Good tip: my aussie was having accidents until 6 m/o and what saved us was adding a bell! Potty trained to perfection in a few days of bell training her. Before, she just was unsure of how to ask to go out and that was why she was having accidents. There’s always a solution to a problem.

This video really resonated with me, once I changed my mindset to “what am I doing wrong” instead of “why doesn’t he listen” it’s all gone 10x better. In my personal opinion training is one of the best experiences I’ve had because it really showed me a lot.

There's a dog trainer in my area, "Simpawtico", that wrote a book on potty training and he mentioned the "It's your fault" thing. I found that to be an "aha" moment for me. His example of this was, "you wouldn't punish a baby for using the bathroom in their diaper so why would you punish a dog?"

I definitely agree 100% with everything you said, especially with the jumping. We let our pup jump sometimes to hug and other times we don't, but like you said how are they supposed to know, I'd we're essentially confusing them. You made some great points!

It's definitely confusing for your pup if you aren't consistent with the guidelines and boundaries, but it's not IMPOSSIBLE, it just may take a bit longer 😊 glad you enjoyed the video!!!

Training tip for jumping, if you like her to jump on you sometimes teach her a jump cue. then she can only do it when she gets the cue

Hi, I'm really happy you've mentioned the 9month puppy blues vlog, cus i just went through your puppy videos and honestly after watching that i started to doubt myself if i can have a dog if it's that hard (and I'm on my own as well). Although after that I watched dog trainer videos and they've mentioned overstimulation and i put it together that probably that was the cause of her behaviour but it's good to hear that you recognized your part in that behaviour. I really like the fact that you fully documented your relationship eith Freya. Thanks :)

It's good to recognize the good AND the bad!! the bad days seem TERRIBLE, but that's only because they're "bad". The good days definitely outweigh the bad and remembered WHY I wanted a puppy and why she's in my life and why I am in hers makes it all worth it!! It's definitely HARD WORK, but so so so worth it! 😊

Thank you for posting this! Really needed to hear that! In the beginning, I was so frustrated with my aussie bc he wasn't getting something but now I know if he isn't giving me the behavior I want that is on me. I can't just expect him to magically understand me. I was so frustrated before because his recall wasn't perfect but now we are working on it and this video really makes me remember that we can get through frustrating times with patience. Could you also one day show us how you train freya for off leash work?

Oh my Gosh I loved this video! I have raised Nori with "Gentle parenting" so to speakand It has worked so far (she is almost 10 months). I so appreciate this reminder though as lately she has become reactive to people and dogs she hasn't known since the beginning and I have been really frustrated with her. Other than that issue all else has gone well. Im sitting here now knowing that it is back to train train and more training on this issue. Thanks and I so needed to hear this! As always love your channel and I have learned so much from You and Freya!🐕🐕🦺❤

How did you switch Freya from the porch potty to asking to go outside? I want to this but I’m afraid it would be confusing
@FreyaAndBeyla2 жыл бұрын
we had the bells on the back door and she had to ring them to go potty with the porch potty, the only thing we did to "switch" her was to move the bells to the front door instead and then we took her outside to go potty! We use a potty cue which is "go potty" so when she would ring the bells we would reinforce that with "let's go potty" which is just kind of our signal we use to say okay, I'm coming, we're going! and then we she got to the porch potty we would say "go potty" and when she did PRAISE! So it just switched to saying "go potty" when we got outside and she picked it up pretty quickly. also because the porch potty resembles grass, so I think it's an easier transition than pee pads! 😊
